Chapter 859: Under the color lit sky
"Why did you plan to go on a trip suddenly?" Ivy questioned, still unable to believe how the man had whisked her out of her chair and brought her to his off-road vehicle. She still had some articles to read.
But Joshua hadn’t listened to her and started driving, paying no attention to her complaints. When questioned, all Joshua responded was that they were going on a trip for the weekend.
"Just like that. Why do you have a problem?" Joshua glanced at her, his eyes gleaming mysteriously.
"If I nod my head, will you turn around and return home?" Ivy’s question put a smile on Joshua’s face.
Home. Ivy had finally accepted their house as her home. Although it had taken him years, four years to be exact, he had finally done it.
Joshua noticed how Ivy’s opinion of him had changed over time. She had even opened up significantly, allowing him into her life like before. Although their intimacy hadn’t moved a step ahead, he was still contented with hugging and kissing, which only started two years after they got together again.
Joshua wasn’t a fool. He knew Ivy loved him, her eyes said it all. But she was hesitant to vocalize her feelings. She had done it once in the past, and he had broken her heart. She wasn’t willing to go through that pain again.
But Joshua had made up his mind. It was time to proceed to the next stage of their relationship. With determination, he swerved the steering wheel and took a detour towards the road that led them out of the city.
"No."
Ivy frowned. But she remained silent.
Ivy: Aria, help. Joshua is kidnapping me to a forsaken land.
She sent a cry for help. But all she got in return was a laughing emote before her sister sent a thumbs-up.
What was the meaning of that? Why was her reaction so strange?
Ivy: Do you know something? What’s cooking?
Aria sent another emote with zipped lips.
Frustrated, Ivy rolled her eyes. But she understood neither Joshua nor her sister was going to disclose anything to her. So, she stopped asking and closed her eyes.
"Wake me up when we reach," she muttered and Joshua hmmed, glancing at her for a moment before returning his eyes to the road.
It was more than an hour later when Joshua finally stopped the car and turned towards Ivy who was deep asleep. Although he didn’t have the heart to wake her up, he had to. The surprise was awaiting her and he couldn’t let his efforts go to waste.
"Ivy, wake up." He nudged her gently, waking her up and Ivy’s eyes fluttered open as she stared at him in a daze.
At that moment, she looked absolutely cute and Joshua couldn’t help but sneak a kiss.
"We are here," he informed and got out of the car before walking around to open the door for her.
"Oh, well alright."
Ivy didn’t know where they were. They seemed to be in an open land or that was what she thought until she saw a duplex house surrounded by trees on three sides. What perplexed her was that the entire place was plunged into darkness. There wasn’t one one source of light except the moon.
Moreover, there seemed to be no one visible as far as her eyes could see.
"Where are we? What is this place?" she questioned, unable to comprehend what Joshua was up to.
"You’ll find out in a minute. Can you close your eyes?"
"Why?"
"Always inquisitive. Nevertheless, you’re a journalist." Joshua tapped her nose lovingly, baffling her all the more. "Close your eyes, sweetheart. I have a surprise for you."
Ivy narrowed her gaze for a moment before she did as she was asked.
"Don’t open them until I tell you to."
"Fine."
Ivy waited as silence fell over. But it didn’t last for a long time. Soon, she heard a loud buzzing sound as if she was attending a concert held by mosquitoes. Curiosity piqued her mind, but she didn’t open her eyes and remained still, waiting for Joshua’s instructions.
"Now, open your eyes, Ivy, and look at the sky."
Ivy did as she was told and her eyes widened in disbelief. The sky was lit up with dotted lights. But the lights weren’t arranged haphazardly. Instead, they were arranged to form words, more like...
Ivy gasped when she read the question. Will you marry me, Ivy?
"How..." Ivy lowered her eyes and her words were stuck in her throat when she saw Joshua on his knee."Ivy, I used to think love was just a word, something people said because it sounded nice. But then you came into my life, and suddenly, it became the most real thing in the world. I have hurt you, disappointed you, and even broken your trust."
Ivy shook her head, her eyes tearing up instantly.
But Joshua didn’t stop.
"But I have regretted it ever since. I was foolish and blind. You have no idea how grateful I was when you accepted me again, allowing me to correct myself. I promise you’ll never regret your decision."
Ivy clamped her lips, preventing herself from breaking down.
"With you around, every moment feels like home, and I don’t want to spend another day without knowing you’re mine forever. I may not be the best person out there. But I promise to be the best husband and lover. Will you marry me?"
Ivy was engulfed by emotions and couldn’t speak a word. She was scared that she would start sobbing at any moment if she opened her mouth. But that didn’t stop her from responding and she nodded her head as she stretched her hand.
Joshua was over the moon. He slipped the ring that was designed in the style of a Mobius strip lined with diamonds.
"Umm... would you mind putting my ring on me?" Joshua showed the couple rings he had bought. It was designed in the same style, only that the band was thicker and had no diamonds.
Ivy burst out laughing at his awkward expression. He was definitely inspired by Aria and Noah.
Retrieving the ring, she slipped it on his finger and the man immediately pulled her in for a kiss.
"Thank you, Ivy. Thank you so much," he whispered amidst their kisses. "I love you so much."
Ivy felt the heavy weight on her heart vanish and she smiled into the kiss before pulling back to stare at him in the eye. "I love you too."
"What did you just say?" Joshua felt it to be a dream and he looked at her incredulously.
"I love you too."
"Again."
"I love you too, Joshua. I love you."
Joshua pulled her in for a kiss again and this time, the intensity of it made her feel stars. Ivy knew what was going to happen next and she was willing this time. After all, he was the man she loved and would marry.
Joshua’s tense body relaxed and he was thrilled beyond words. Ivy had finally accepted him wholeheartedly. All their misunderstandings had been resolved. They were finally one.
Looking down at her joyous expression, he vowed silently, ’I promise, Ivy, I’ll make you the happiest woman in the world. You’ll never be sad in your life. Never.’
