Chapter 848: Presidential elections candidate
Noah pulled out his phone to call Aria. But he stopped short when he saw the message she had sent him. He had received it a few minutes after he met Ethan.
Aria: Noah, I’m returning home. I don’t know if you realized what I was trying to do by accompanying you. I hope you did. I couldn’t see you stressed. I was scared and worried, worried more for you. You may find my interference stressful. But I’m your girlfriend and I can’t bear to see you tensed.
Noah’s lips arched up and realization dawned upon him slowly.
Aria: I’m happy I was able to make you smile before you entered the hotel. I’ll wait for you at home. I know you’ll handle everything well.
In the end, she sent a cute wink emoji which made Noah chuckle softly.
Aria was right. He had been stressed out of his mind since he met Jared a few days ago. Her small gesture had actually eased his mind a little. He instantly sent her a message, informing her of their victory.
Noah didn’t receive any reply from her. Assuming her to be asleep, he turned around and returned to his friends.
Joshua too was on his phone and Noah had no doubt that he was texting Ivy.
By the time they returned home, it was past eleven in the morning and the West family were waiting for them. It was a big achievement for them. They had finally defeated Jared. He wasn’t a threat to them anymore.
On seeing that the situation had returned to normal and tey weren’t in danger anymore, Oliver stood up, gaining everyone’s attention to him. "Noah, I think it’s time I moved back home."
"Dad..." Noah interrupted him. But Oliver was quick to stop him.
"I know what you want to say. I can’t prolong my stay here anymore. This is Aria and your home, not mine. I’m thankful that you allowed me to stay here while I was recuperating and in times of danger, but not anymore. Please don’t force me on this."
Noah glanced at Aria who nodded at him in return. "Okay, Dad."
"Good, good." Oliver nodded with a smile and sat down.
Since the situation had come to it, Joshua stood up next and Ivy frowned, having an ominous feeling all of a sudden. The man had become highly unpredictable.
"Since we are on this topic, I’d like to say that Ivy and I will be returning home as well."
Oliver narrowed his eyes, his gaze fluctuating between Ivy and Joshua. Ivy especially felt guilty and she lowered her head, silently consenting to whatever analysis he was doing in his mind.
"When did you two get together?" he questioned sternly. His voice barely had emotion and he glared at Joshua, making him lose his confidence.
"Dad, we..." Joshua’s tongue turned numb and he was having a hard time finding answers to his question. When did Dad become so scary?
"Dad, it’s been a few days since we got back together," Ivy answered for him and Joshua beamed at her proactiveness.
"Ivy..." Oliver warned her subtly.
"I know, Dad. I know what you want to say." She sighed and raised her head." I’ve thought it through and want to give Joshua another chance. Let’s just say I have become an idiot in love."
"Ivy..." Joshua shook his head but was disregarded by her.
"I’m giving him a last chance. If he messes up this time, I will never look at him again."
Joshua remained silent. He knew no amount of words could assure her, given the condition she was in. He had to prove it to her with his actions, show her how much he loved her, and cherish her for life. He had to repair the trust and her heart which he had broken in his foolishness.
Oliver examined his daughter for a minute or two, making her fidget under his intense scrutiny before he sighed heavily. " Since you’ve already decided, I’ll not interfere. I hope you’ll not regret your decision in the future."
His last sentence was directed at Joshua and the man knew it was his time to speak.
"I’ll not allow Ivy to have any regrets, Dad. You have my word," he promised, his tone filled with sincerity.
However, Oliver didn’t believe him. Once bitten, twice shy. He rolled his eyes and looked away and Joshua understood that he was being pardoned not because Oliver was willing to give him a chance, but because of Ivy. Yet, he didn’t object and remained optimistic.
His goals were clear. His heart was clear. He didn’t mind people doubting his love. He’d show them with his actions how much he loved his woman. They may not trust him now. But the situation would definitely change in the future and he intended to make sure of it.
Oliver returned to his room to pack his things up and Aria followed him to help him. Since it was Ivy’s nap time, Joshua gave a deaf ear to her objections and brought her back to her room. All the lady could do was grumble in annoyance while Joshua hugged her from behind as they lay on the bed.
Meanwhile, Noah and Ian were the only ones in the living room.
"What do you intend to do now?" Ian knew that something was bothering Noah and it had to do with Jared. Nobody had rattled his friend as much as Jared had.
Noah ran a hand through his hair and thought about it for a few seconds. "Amber and Jared’s fate has been decided. Ivy will take care of them once she recovers completely."
Ian nodded in understanding. That was their plan all along.
"I’m thinking of putting Rachel’s wedding on the agenda."
"Ohh, why are you in a hurry?" Ian couldn’t fathom why Noah had been fretting about Rachel’s marriage.
"Daniel’s father, Arnold Adler has entered politics, and if my sources are correct, some people in his party want him to stand for the presidential elections, opposed Louis Truman."
Now, this surprised Ian and his brows quirked up.
"But?"
"But Mr. Adler is facing objections from within the party. He doesn’t have many people supporting him as the power-hungry wolves want to contest in the elections themselves."
Ian had a fair inkling as to what Noah’s plan was. "So, if the world were the know about Rachel and Daniel, it would boost Mr. Adler’s popularity and those eying to contest will give up."
Noah nodded. "With the Carters supporting him, Mr. Adler is bound to gain more supporters."
"It wouldn’t just be the Carters, even the Martins would be on his side," Ian added. "What about Louis Truman?"
"Louis Truman is a good man. But he isn’t worthy of being a President."
Noah didn’t have a good impression of him. The man was a coward. Although he thought about the goodwill of the country, he thought about himself first.
"Mr. Adler is?"
"Yes. He is." Noah’s tone was firm and assertive. "He is righteous, confident, and courageous. He isn’t the one to abscond in times of danger."
"How soon?"
Although Ian didn’t clarify, Noah understood what he was asking.
"Tomorrow."
"Isn’t it too soon?"
"The sooner the better."
