Chapter 839: Jared’s present - Part 1

"Hello, Jared. I hope you’ve been treated well by my people."

Noah greeted the man who resembled nothing like what he remembered him to be. Instead, Jared had turned into a cripple, his body barely able to support him. Ronnie had made sure to keep him entertained using all torture methods, making his life a living hell.

Jared smiled as he squinted at the man he loathed the most. His small huff made the blood running down his face, especially on his lips to spritz before him.

"I expected better," Jared commented, trying to hide his agony, but failed miserably.

"Oh, don’t worry. It’s just the beginning. I’ll make sure you’re satisfied with our treatment. You’ll be craving your death soon," Noah assured and all he got in return was the man’s wry smile.

"Well, I have some good news for you," Noah started as he picked up a steel baseball bat and started inspecting it. ’A good weapon to shatter Jared’s bones,’ he thought and turned to Jared, who had stopped smiling.

"Do you want to hear it?" Noah questioned as he admired his enemy’s colorful expressions.

"I’m bored out of my mind. You might as well entertain me." Jared felt his entire body crying in agony. He was in utter misery. There was no part of him that hadn’t been tortured. If not for the men showing him mercy, there was no way in hell he’d have remained conscious.

It was all Noah’s orders - he realized. This was his way of seeking revenge.

"Well, I presume you know who Stevenson is," Noah’s words came out as a question and he swung his bat in the air, appreciating the slight swoosh it made. He didn’t miss the drastic change in Jared’s expression. It was interesting and amusing to watch.

"How can I forget? You do know him; after all, he’s your partner in crime."

Jared glared at Noah while his palms clenched into fists as he tried to control his anger and resentment.

"I wonder how surprised you’d be if I were to tell you we have found what your final plan is."

Noah clanked the baseball bat against the table on which other torture weapons were placed. The blaring sound was like the call of death and Jared’s eyes flashed with fear.

"I must say you were quite diligent. It took us some time to decode the coordinates."

His words were like a sledgehammer dropping on Jared’s head and he finally lost his composure. Jared understood that he was truly defeated. The man before him had defeated him and left him with nothing.

"It would have been an excellent plan if you didn’t have an idiot as your partner." Noah continued.

Jared knew that Noah intended to rile him up. So, he remained quiet, accepting his loss.

"Ohh, look who I am blaming. An idiot will choose an idiot as a partner." Noah tried again when he didn’t receive any reaction or response from his captive.

Jared was anything but an idiot. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have played him, his grandfather, and many others so well. In fact, he had tricked the entire nation. The man was wicked and clever. If only he had used his skills for good use and a better cause...

Noah sighed and shook his head. Jared chose his doom. There was nothing he could do.

"We are close to tracking all the explosives you have hidden in the country, " Noah said, dropping the bat and picking up an iron rod. "I have more good news for you. Do you want to listen to it?"

Jared quirked a brow as he tried to hide his evil and indignant expression. If only he wasn’t crippled and his hands weren’t bound, he would have killed Noah for sure.

"Ivy is recovering well and soon, she’ll visit you to send you to hell."

Jared felt the rusty taste of blood fill his mouth. All his plans had gone down the drain. All his attempts at destroying Noah and his loved ones had been foiled. Even his meticulous schemes had been thwarted and he was about to lose his mind.

All Jared saw was red and how he wished to plunge a knife through Noah and butcher him into pieces using the chainsaw. Gnashing his teeth, he looked at him in spite.

"You must be utterly vexed by now. After all, we managed to sabotage all your plans." Noah gloated, enjoying the vivid expressions and emotions passing through Jared’s face.

At the same time, he was also frustrated. Jared was a tough nut to crack and he had been trying hard to rile him up, to ignite his fury to make him speak. But the man remained mute as if his tongue had been chopped off.

Noah was slowly losing his patience. But he didn’t show it on his face as he dropped the iron rod on the table. Jared now had his undivided focus, and he knew the exact words to say that would get the man speaking.

"You lost, Jared. Although you’ve never won against me, you’ve lost big time this time. How does it feel to embrace defeat, loser?" Noah mocked, his eyes filled with ridicule as he reveled in his victory.

Nothing happened for a few seconds. Jared didn’t react at all. But Noah knew he had hit a sore spot - Jared’s gaze said it all. Just as he had expected, a minute later, the man went crazy and started laughing. He sounded deranged and demonic like a monster on the loose.

However, Noah remained unaffected as he waited for him to speak up. It was now time for him to listen and grasp onto anything that might be of use to him.

"I accept defeat, Noah. Noah Allen Carter, I accept defeat. You won. I accept my defeat," the man stated, but his eyes said otherwise. They were filled with confidence and triumph, and a promise and Noah bit the inside of his cheek as he held onto his patience.

"You managed to defeat me. But that doesn’t mean you managed to outwit me completely." It was now Jared’s turn to gloat.

"What do you mean?" Noah narrowed his eyes as he observed his captive. He didn’t lower his guards as he searched for what he wanted.

"I do have a present for you. Since you consider yourself clever, why don’t you uncover what the present is yourself," Jared challenged and closed his eyes, his exhaustion hitting him eventually.

Noah stared at the man who was gradually falling asleep. He wouldn’t be getting anything else out of him, he perceived. But whatever he had learned was enough for him.
