Chapter 834: Explosive news - Part 2

"Hello, Mr. West," Max greeted and everyone followed suit. Since it wasn’t a formal meeting, they were more friendly and considered him as their friend’s father rather than their superior.

"Hello, hello," Oliver too greeted them equally amicably. "I brought you all some snacks. I hope you’ll like it." He pushed the food trolley and glanced at Ivy who was smiling faintly.

"Thank you so much, Mr. West." Sasha wasn’t the one to shy away when it came to food. So, she stood up and helped Oliver push the trolley inside.

Oliver was tickled by Sasha’s antics and he chuckled to himself. "You people talk. I have some work to do. And Max, may I have a word with you once you are done here?"

Max glanced at Ivy who looked equally puzzled as him as she stared at her father questioningly.

"It’s about work," Oliver clarified, unable to tolerate his daughter’s intense gaze, and immediately after, Ivy’s expression eased.

"Yes, Mr. West."

"I’ll be in the dining hall."

Max nodded and Oliver left after making sure that Ivy was alright.

What’s cooking between you and Dad?’

Ivy wrote on the notepad and showed it to Max, giving him an interrogating brow.

"I have no idea." Max shook his head, not having any clue as to why Ivy’s father asked him to meet him in private. If it was work matters, he could discuss it in front of everyone. They were all colleagues. What was the need for secrecy?

"Leave it. We will find out when you meet him." Kira eased the situation and changed the topic. "By the way, I heard Rachel Carter and Daniel Adler are getting married. Is it true?"

Ivy was stumped for words. She looked at Kira as if she was staring at a zombie.

’Daniel is getting married and he didn’t tell me?’ Ivy went blank and recalled all Aria and Noah had told her the previous night. But she couldn’t remember anything related to Daniel and Rachel’s wedding. ’Aria didn’t inform me as well. What’s happening?’

Ivy’s reaction gave away her thoughts and everyone understood instantly that she had no idea about it.

Was I asleep so long that I didn’t know my friend was getting married?’ Ivy wrote and Cedric chuckled to himself.

"Maybe it’s just a rumor. The couple was seen attending an event together. Considering that Daniel’s father, Mr. Arnold Adler is about to step into politics, all eyes are on them," Max briefed the situation, clearing Ivy’s thoughts.

Max had no idea that he had prevented another world war from happening. Ivy was ready to kill Daniel for not informing her about his wedding. How dare he!

"Ivy, Mr. Carter told me you want to go into digital news production." Max brought up the topic he had long wanted to discuss. He wasn’t surprised by her choice. Yet, he couldn’t help but be worried for her. Ivy was a carefree and wild person. To stay tamed for a few days would suffocate her. Could she handle it?

Ivy nodded, her smile faltering in disappointment. ’Do I have a choice? I can’t do fieldwork in my condition. I can only settle for a desk job.’

"Oh well, it’s all temporary. Once you recover, you’ll be running and kicking some ass as you did previously," Cedric teased and Ivy rolled her eyes at him. "But it’s good like this as well. You’ll have some time to rest and calm yourself down."

Ivy scoffed and folded her hands as she gave him a look, ’As if you’re the one saying.’

Max stood up gaining everyone’s attention to him. "You guys chat. I’ll see what Mr. West wants of me."

Max left the four to chat and stepped out of the room, only to bump into Joshua who was waiting right by the door.

"Mr. Martin?" Max was taken aback to see him there and didn’t know what to do for a moment.

"Dad is in the dining hall," Joshua conveniently called Oliver as his Dad and Max frowned, numerous questions popping into his mind.

’Didn’t Ivy say that she and Joshua broke up? What’s happening?’ He wondered and observed the man who was scrolling on his phone.

Even though Max was curious, he wasn’t the one to probe into other’s personal matters. So, he didn’t bother him anymore and went in search of Oliver. Just as the man had said, he was waiting for him in the dining hall.

"Mr. West," Max called him gently, donning an apologetic smile for disturbing him.

"Max, please come. Take a seat." Oliver pointed to the seat beside him and Max took it hesitantly. "I called you here because I have some work for you."

"Yes Mr. West, please tell me."

"It’s like this," Oliver started with Jared’s truth and the fact that he was caught. He also didn’t hide the matter regarding the bombs and Mr. Stevenson’s involvement.

At first, Max did not react. But as Oliver continued, he couldn’t remain calm anymore and his eyes rounded, his mind blowing away with the amount of information he had suddenly been presented with.

At that time, all he had in mind was, ’Who am I? What am I? What’s happening in the world? What kind of twisted story is this?’

"I know it must be a lot to take in. But it’s the truth and we will have to face it." Oliver patted Max’s shoulder and pushed a file to him, doing exactly as Noah had requested him to.

"Max, I have a task for you."

"Ye..." Max cleared his throat and averted his eyes for a moment, feeling awkward at having lost his cool. "Yes, Mr. West. Please tell me."

"Since Mr. Stevenson has absconded, let’s make him internationally famous."

"You mean..." Max understood where this was going and his lit up, excitement coursing through his body. He was always ready to punish the evil. There was a sense of thrill in defeating the evil and bringing justice.

"Exactly what you are thinking. Don’t mention anything about the bombs though. We don’t want the public panicking, do we?"

Max agreed in a breath. If the truth about the explosives were revealed to the public, the nation would be in unrest, and that wasn’t something they wanted.

"Just make sure to link Mr. Stevenson and Jared."

"I understand, Mr. West. I’ll do exactly as you say." Max took the file and went through it. They had solid evidence against Mr. Stevenson. The news was bound to be explosive once they released it.

"I have another request." Oliver pursed his lips and lowered his head for a moment.

"Yes, Mr. West?"

"Ivy will return to work next week. Although she is wilful, she’ll not do anything that she can’t. But still, please keep an eye on her. She sometimes gets carried away."

"You have nothing to worry about, Mr. West. We will ensure Ivy’s safety and well-being. She will not be allowed to do anything she shouldn’t. She can fight all she wants. But I’m her Boss," Max said bossily and Oliver chortled in amusement.

"Good, good. I won’t take much of your time now. Your friends must be waiting for you."

"Take care, Mr. West. I’ll handle this matter." Max stood up and picked up the file.

"Thank you."
