Chapter 828: Happy news
Chapter 828: Happy news
"Ivy!" Joshua ran frantically towards her, his face as white as snow. Kneeling before her, he pulled her into his arms, nearly knocking her breath off her chest.
Ivy’s eyes widened and she blinked a few times, wondering if she was dreaming. Otherwise, why would Joshua hug her all of a sudden when he had promised not to touch her without her consent?
"You scared me, Ivy." Joshua was still distraught. He couldn’t brush off his lingering feelings of fear when he woke up and didn’t find Ivy beside him. Immediately, he was transported to the day the mishap happened and like a madman, he had searched everywhere for her, forgetting that they were at Noah’s mansion and were safe.
"Why did you leave me without informing me?" he complained, making it seem like Ivy was a scoundrel who had ditched his poor wife at home. "Why didn’t you wake me up?"
Not once did he let go of Ivy as he complained to her. Even though he was kneeling, Ivy was almost sitting on his thighs, dangling off the wheelchair awkwardly. The strange posture was making her uncomfortable and her waist was slowly starting to ache.
"Umm...well, we did drop a note for you," Noah intervened when he saw Ivy’s uncomfortable expression. She was close to losing her mind and if Joshua didn’t let go of her immediately, she would strangle him for sure.
"Huh?" Joshua turned around and stared at the two people he had completely disregarded. He was bereft of speech find them there.
Although he was flummoxed, he didn’t let go of Ivy as he continued to hold her in his arms. If possible, he even pulled her close and now, she was completely sitting on his thighs with her legs dangling off them.
"We left you a note. I think you missed seeing it," Noah repeated and Joshua’s lips parted in realization.
"Ahh, then it’s okay." He turned to Ivy and gave her a look. "But you aren’t allowed to do it next time. Do you have any idea how scared I was? I thought...I thought...."
Joshua didn’t continue, forcing all his negative thoughts and fear out of his mind. Ivy was safe, that was all that mattered.
Ivy finally broke out of her trance and patted his shoulder.
"What?" Joshua had no idea what Ivy was trying to say. He had completely forgotten their position and that she was now awkwardly sitting on his thighs while he was kneeling with his butt now on his heels.
Ivy was taken aback by his ignorance. ’Umm, can’t you see how close you’re to me?’ she thought in her mind as she gestured for him to let her go.
But Joshua understood nothing and his frown deepened. "What are you trying to say, Ivy?"
"I think Ivy is asking you to let her go," Aria pointed, finally bringing Joshua to the notice what he had overlooked in his moment of desperation.
"Ohh..." Joshua stared at Ivy and a smile crept up on his lips when he felt the warmth underneath his palms. Gosh, how long had it been since he last held her? He was loving every second of it even though the circumstances that led to it were anything but pleasant.
"But I’m loving what is happening here. I don’t want to let you go, Ivy." He said with such seriousness that Ivy was surprised and she stopped struggling for a moment, that was until she saw the flicker of playfulness in his eyes.
Narrowing her eyes, she glared hard at him, her palms ready to deliver painful blows to his body if he didn’t release her in the next few seconds.
"Fine, fine, don’t glare at me, darling. I’ll let you go," Joshua relented. Even though he was loving every second of his closeness with Ivy, he was unwilling to irk her. He wanted to gain Ivy back in his life, not push her further away. He might as well recreate the scene once they got back together.
With utmost gentleness and care, he lifted her and placed her back in the wheelchair. He then adjusted the blanket that covered her legs before flashing a grin at the fuming lady.
"What were you guys talking about?" he questioned and tried to get up, only to feel a sting travel through his body. His legs had gone numb after sitting in the strange position for a few minutes.
"About the future," Noah replied, ignoring his friend’s discomfort.
"Oh, what about it?" Joshua waited a few seconds before he started moving his legs slowly as blood flowed back to his numb legs.
"What does Ivy want to do in the future?"
"What does she want to do?" Joshua frowned and looked back and forth between Ivy and Noah.
"Work, Joshua. We are talking about Ivy’s work."
"Ahhh!" Joshua finally realized what their topic of conversation was.
"Okay, what about it?" Joshua sighed in bliss when he felt the sensation return to his legs and he stood up immediately to kick his legs.
"Ivy will be returning to work a week later," Aria spoke as she glanced at Ivy worriedly. Her sister was still glaring at Joshua as if she couldn’t wait to choke him to death.
"No way!" Joshua disagreed immediately, shocking all the three people around him.
"What do you mean?" Aria hissed, giving him a look that said she would kick his ass if he didn’t give her a satisfactory explanation.
"I mean Ivy is still weak. She needs to rest for a month or two before she returns to work," Joshua explained, rubbing his neck in embarrassment. He was genuinely of Aria scared after seeing her reaction.
Aria rolled her eyes and scoffed slightly. "In your dreams. Ivy is already bored out of her mind and she is close to blowing this house off. If we are to restrict her from working for more than a week, we will be homeless on the eighth day."
’Correct. My sister understands me the best. I love you, Ari.’ Ivy thought, a small smile making its way to her lips.
"But..."
"And Ivy is fit enough to start working after a week. It’s just that she needs to take it lightly and not worry much."
Joshua gave up objecting. Since the doctor had spoken, who was he to prevent Ivy from doing what he wanted? Moreover, Ivy did seem like she was bored to death. If she wanted to work, then he had nothing to do but accept her decision even if he had to stick close to her all the time.
Joshua’s eyes lit up with the idea of him spending all his time with Ivy while they worked together. What an amazing idea!
"Fine, fine, whatever Ivy wants." Joshua relented, ignoring the suspicious looks Noah was giving him. Flashing a smile at Ivy, who, by now, had stopped glaring at him, Joshua sat on the grass beside Aria.
"Ivy, do you remember about me speaking about some good news I wanted to share with you?" Aria ignored the man on her left and asked Ivy who was admiring the fountain ahead of him.
Ivy’s head snapped towards her instantly and she nodded as she looked at her expectantly.
"I have two actually. I’ll share one of them with you."
Ivy nodded fervently as she looked at her sister with excitement.
"Well, we are thinking of going on a trip. Two trips actually," Aria revealed as she glanced at Noah, who gestured for her to continue.
"One would be a trip with all of us." Aria pointed at the three of them, ignoring to add Joshua to the group. "Two, an all-girls trip to New Zealand when you recover. Maggie, Valerie, and Rachel will join us on that trip and we’ll go once you recover completely. How does that sound?"
Ivy was excited, especially about the second trip. She had always wanted to go on a road trip in New Zealand. It had been her and Aria’s dreams for a long time.
"Awesome. And about the family trip, we were thinking of Italy. How does that sound?"
Ivy nodded, once again loving every sound of it. Italy was a beautiful country with a rich history. She would love it visit it one day.
"I was told Italian men are some of the finest in the world," Aria whispered. But both Noah and Joshua heard her. "I’m stuck with Noah. Maybe you might be lucky to find someone charming and sexy." She winked at her cheekily, disregarding the looks Noah was giving her.
Aria was damn sure she’d be having it the moment they returned to their room. She had poked the sleeping beast and now, she’d be the one to suffer.
"Hey, Aria. Don’t lead my Ivy astray. She has me alright. There is no need for any snobby Italian men." Joshua objected right away, flashing Aria a displeased look. "Ivy, you aren’t allowed to look at any other men. You have me."
Ivy rolled her eyes and looked at him in disdain. ’Who’s going to stop me?’ she thought and gave her sister an enthusiastic nod.
"Brilliant. We’ll plan the trip later. How does that sound?"
Ivy nodded again.
"Aria, if you lead my Ivy awry, I’ll complain to Noah. He’ll teach you a lesson," Joshua warned.
"She’s already in for a lesson," Noah mumbled, only for Aria to hear and her heart skipped a beat in worry.
’Uh oh, looks like I’m in deep trouble.’
Noah didn’t clarify. Instead, he gave her a profound look before he turned his gaze away from her.
’Shit! Looks like I’m going to die today. Goodbye, world. It was nice knowing you.’
