Chapter 827: Plans for the future

Noah’s brows shot up when he saw the strange expression on Ivy’s face. Oblivious to their presence, she was staring at Joshua while the man in question remained deep asleep.

Since Ivy was already awake, Aria didn’t leave and entered the room, prompting Noah to follow her. It wasn’t until they were right by her side that Ivy’s gaze finally moved towards them.

However, there wasn’t any reaction at all. Ivy was oddly calm as if she had already sensed them as she looked at them with an unfathomable gaze.

"Hey, Ivy. Are you still sleepy? Do you want to sleep some more?" Aria questioned, making sure to keep her voice low to not disturb Joshua.

Ivy shook her head.

"Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something?"

This time, she nodded and Aria turned around to leave. But Noah stopped her.

"I’ll bring the food. Stay here with your sister, Aria."

Nodding at him, Aria pulled the chair towards the bed and sat on it while Noah looked at Joshua keenly before he went to the kitchen.

Once Noah was out of the room, Aria’s expression changed. "What’s happening, Ivy? Are you and him together?" She pointed at Joshua as she asked the question.

Ivy shook her head immediately.

Aria didn’t know if she should be relieved or worried. Although she hadn’t interfered or stopped Joshua from staying around Ivy, she was still far from accepting him and her sister getting together this soon. The lingering fear of him probably abandoning Ivy kept entering her mind, making her hesitate and skeptical about him and his intentions.

"Will you be getting back together with him?"

This time, Ivy didn’t react. She stared at the ceiling, her eyes quivering slightly and Aria understood instantly.

Ivy herself wasn’t sure. She didn’t know if she wanted to forget everything and get together with Joshua, or hold him accountable and hate him for life.

Even though Joshua had hurt her deeply, she still loved him. But that didn’t mean everything would become normal between them right away just because he apologized. However, she couldn’t promise the same in the long run.

"We’ll talk about it later. How do you feel right now? Are you okay?"

This time, Ivy nodded and Aria sighed in relief.

"Good, good. All you need to do right now is recover quickly and once you do, I have some super good news to tell you." Aria became excited as soon as she thought about what she wanted to tell Ivy.

Ivy quirked her brow curiously.

"Get well soon and you’ll know." Aria shrugged, keeping the suspense in the air and Ivy’s body deflated in defeat.

"I’m here," Noah announced as he made his entry and Aria stood up to help Ivy.

Ivy’s face scrunched up when she thought of the food. From the day she was allowed to have solid food, she had been eating congee, and by now, she was sick and tired of it. Given a choice, she wanted to go to the kitchen herself and whip up a full-course meal.

How delicious! Ivy salivated as soon as she thought of the dishes she would prepare if it was in her hands. Although the congee Noah prepared for her tasted anything but bad, she still wanted to eat something else. She was bored of it by now.

Noah saw her expression and his smile widened. He understood what was running through her mind and he lowered the plate in his hands, showing her what she would be eating.

"Congratulations, Ivy. Today, you’ll have congee and some pasta."

Ivy’s eyes lit up as soon as she noticed the pasta. The white, creamy dish looked great and smelt even better and her appetite was ignited. Even though there was a bowl of congee beside it, she didn’t mind it as long as she could enjoy something delicious.

"Awesome. Do you want anything else?"

Ivy shook her head and Noah handed the plate to her after Aria moved back.

Ivy took the plate eagerly. She was famished even though she had only eaten her lunch a few hours ago. Everything looked delicious, even the boring congee. But the pasta won her over and she didn’t hesitate to take the first bite.

Ivy felt like crying. Her dead taste buds revived to life and she felt all the taste she had missed out on the past few days. She was especially glad that Noah had added some pepper. The spiciness made the dish all the more amazing and she gave Noah a thumbs up.

"I’m glad you liked it." Noah bent his head, accepting her complementing graciously.

Ivy ate the pasta with relish. It was the best food she had eaten in days. In no time, she had finished everything on her plate. Even the congee in the bowl tasted delicious and she was satisfied and happy by the time she was done.

"Looks like someone is satisfied." Aria quirked her brows playfully and Ivy gave her a bombastic side eye.

"Ivy means to say ’Good work, Noah. Continue cooking good food for me’. Aria made up her own dialog, making Noah laugh and Ivy glare at her.

"Well, thank you. Don’t worry, Ivy. I’ll cook good food for you from now on and once you recover, you can return the favor." Noah didn’t allow Ivy’s mood to plummet. It was easier for her to fall into depression, considering her state.

Ivy nodded her head, taking his words as encouragement.

"What do you want to do now? Do you want to read a book or watch a movie perhaps?" Aria suggested as she looked at the time. It wasn’t even nine and Ivy had just eaten. So, she couldn’t sleep immediately after.

Ivy shook her head and looked towards the window.

"Do you want to go out?"

Ivy nodded.

"Sure. Let’s go to the garden. It’s a pleasant night and I’m sure you will love it."

Ivy’s eyes sparkled with excitement and she swung her duvet aside, showing her readiness to the couple before her.

Aria smiled widely and nodded at Noah who brought the wheelchair. With ease, Aria lifted her sister, surprising her with the sudden movement.

Ivy’s eyes widened when she saw that she was now being carried by her sister. But when she recalled how capable Aria was, she relaxed and allowed her to do as she pleased.

Once Ivy was settled comfortably in the wheelchair, Aria started pushing it.

While Aria and Noah ignored the man sleeping on the bed, Ivy didn’t. She glanced at Joshua before looking at Aria questioningly.

"Don’t worry. I’ll leave a note for him," Noah assured her. He picked up the notepad Ivy usually used to convey her thoughts and wrote a note for Joshua.

"Let’s go." Aria pushed the wheelchair excitedly and the trio went to the garden.

Ivy immediately felt relaxed once she was outside. After being cooped up inside the hospital for days and now, inside the room in Noah’s mansion, she wanted to breathe some fresh air. The garden was magnificent and for the first time, she noticed its beauty.

Even though Ivy had been to Noah’s mansion many times, she hadn’t explored the other parts, especially the garden. So, she had no idea how wonderful the place was. Her entire mood lifted along with her spirits and she didn’t stop smiling even once.

Aria took Ivy near the fountain and stopped when she found a good place for them to sit on. The breeze was light and cool and with the fragrance from the flowers nearby, it definitely felt good. Even Aria felt her mood lifting.

"Do you want me to push you around some more?"

Ivy shook her head and Aria sat on the grass immediately with Noah right beside her.

A pleasant silence fell upon them until Noah broke it.

"So, what have you thought of doing now, Ivy?" he questioned as he looked at her keenly.

While Ivy didn’t understand what he was referring to, Aria did and she pursed her lips thoughtfully.

"Until you recover completely, you cannot do any field work. So, do you want to help Dad and assist him with his work? Or have you thought of something else?" he clarified.

Ivy’s eyes widened in realization and she lowered her head as she thought about it. She had already made up her mind when she was at the hospital. She didn’t know how long it would take her to recover and she was bored out of her mind sitting in her room all day and doing nothing.

So what if she couldn’t return to what was used to doing? There was still a lot of work she could assist with.

Ivy didn’t have a notepad or her phone with her. So, Noah handed his phone to her to type her words.

’I want to return to work.’

"Okay. What kind of work do you want to do?"

’Digital News Producer.’

"That you could do," Noah agreed.

There were a lot of people who relied on online news when they couldn’t watch it on the television. So, it wasn’t a bad choice for Ivy to be a digital news producer. Although it wasn’t as exciting as gathering the news herself, it was still better than being idle.

"Do you want to work from home or go to the office?"

’Office, please.’

"That could be arranged. How soon do you want to start working?"

’As soon as possible.’

Ivy was dying to do something. She was close to losing her mind out of boredom.

"That can only happen after a week. You are to rest until then," Aria declared, interrupting Ivy and Noah’s conversation.

’But, Aria...’ Ivy didn’t know what to say and typed only two words.

"No buts. You’re still weak and you aren’t going anywhere until Ian and I, both give you the nods and that’ll happen only a week later."

’Fine, whatever you say.’ Ivy relented. She didn’t have a choice anyway.

"Ivy!"

All of a sudden, she heard Joshua shout and saw him running towards her anxiously.
