Chapter 824: Regretful Joshua - Part 2
Joshua inched closer to Ivy and laid his head beside her. "I’m so sorry for everything I did, Ivy. I know it’s impossible for you to forgive me. I can’t forgive myself either. Nevertheless, I will never stop apologizing to you, hoping that you’ll forgive me one day."
Joshua closed his eyes and kissed Ivy’s palm. "I love you so damn much, Ivy, and it was only after I was close to losing you that I realized how much you mean to me. I was a fool to have hurt such a beautiful person, probably the biggest idiot in the world."
Joshua’s knees were starting to hurt. But he didn’t give a damn about it and continued to kneel. For Ivy, he was willing to kneel before her forever.
"I know I have lost my right to stay beside you. But my biggest wish right now is to stay by your side forever, Ivy. I can’t live without you. I can’t do it. Please don’t leave me. Please." Joshua continued to speak while tears dripped down his cheeks, some droplets falling on Ivy’s palm.
"Even if you don’t forgive me, I’ll always be with you, Ivy. I promise. I will always love you, protect you, and cherish you. You have my word."
Joshua sniffled and moved closer to Ivy until her hand was tucked under his chin. He had no idea that the lady he was talking to was wide awake and listening to him with tears in her eyes.
Ivy had woken up the moment Joshua entered the room and ordered the female guard to leave them alone for some time. She had listened to all that he told her and all that he didn’t as well.
For a second, she didn’t know what to do. She was angry with him, for what he did to her, for how he treated her. Heck, she didn’t want to have anything to do with him at all. But his words this time had touched her greatly.
Ivy had loved Joshua sincerely. So, his painful words and the breakup had hurt her deeply. Even though she was close to hating him, the lingering feelings for him in her heart made her tear up when she heard him cry and especially so when she felt his tears on her palm.
Ivy was in a dilemma. She wanted to hate him, continue being angry with him, and hold him accountable for all that happened to her. Yet, at the same time, she couldn’t see him crying as well. It was as if two opposite forces were wreaking havoc in her mind, making her go crazy.
Ivy was aware that even if Joshua hadn’t broken up with her that night, she would still have been targeted by Jared. She was the prey he had set his eyes on. It was just that Joshua had served as a catalyst to his plan.
Her eyes moved to the man who was still kneeling by her side. He was lying by her side quietly as if he was chanting his apologies to her, praying to her to forgive him. Unconsciously, Ivy’s heart softened and her fingers moved, waking Joshua up from his trance.
"Ivy.." He woke up, alarmed, and looked at her in concern. "What’s wrong? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?" He examined her and looked for any signs of discomfort.
Ivy didn’t react. She kept staring at him as the man started to fret over her well-being.
"Ivy, please tell me you’re alright." Joshua was worried out of his mind and he jumped to his feet instantly, ignoring the numbing pain in his legs. He didn’t let go of her hand as he waited for her to respond.
"Are you okay, Ivy? Please tell me you’re fine."
This time, Ivy blinked at him and Joshua let out a sigh of relief.
"You scared me." He complained and was about to kneel beside her again when Ivy stopped him. She held his hand tight, forcing him to stand up again and look at her in confusion.
"Ivy, what’s wrong? Are you okay?"
Even though Ivy had assured him, he couldn’t hide his suspicions and once again, his worries surfaced. "Shall I call Ian? Let him take at you."
Ivy turned her head and gestured towards the empty side of the bed, forcing Joshua to stop speaking for a moment.
"Huh? What?" Joshua’s mind went blank for a second and he gaped at her silently.
Again, Ivy gestured towards her bed through her eyes and finally, it dawned upon Joshua what she was trying to convey.
"Are you asking me to sit on the bed?" He asked, his voice trembling in excitement and shock.
Ivy blinked once and Joshua was ecstatic. His lips stretched into a wide smile and he couldn’t stop smiling. He was thrilled. He was over the moon and he couldn’t stop smiling.
"Ivy, do you really want me to sit on the bed?"
Once again, Ivy blinked at him.
This time, Joshua didn’t hesitate and let her hand go. He then jumped on the bed, startling her as he lay down beside her before he held her other hand.
"Thank you, Ivy. Thank you so much." Joshua was elated. Yet, he didn’t take her kindness for granted, neither did he think that she had forgiven him for what he had done. He knew the reality and that he was far from being forgiven.
"You’re an angel. I love you so much, Ivy. I really do." Joshua kissed her hand again and leaned closer to her, wishing to get more of her warmth.
Taking in a deep breath, he was mesmerized by her lovely scent. How long he had waited to be this close to her? He wondered, his eyes lighting up in joy.
"Thank you so much, Ivy. Thanks a lot." He sighed as he closed his eyes.
Ivy didn’t know if she was doing the right thing by allowing Joshua to be this close to her. She didn’t know if she’d regret it when she returned to her sane mind. But for once, she wanted to indulge in what her heart wanted even if she’d regret it later.
