Chapter 821: Ethan Meyers to the rescue

"Hello, Deputy?" Noah wasn’t surprised that Valerie called him. But he was surprised to hear her request, especially after learning that her Chief hadn’t trusted her and was unwilling to grant her permission to seek help from the bomb disposal squad.

"Can you perhaps help me in this matter?" Valerie questioned carefully and glanced at Maggie who nodded back at her assuringly.

"I can. I do have a few capable men who can handle explosives."

"But they cannot help us, Mr. Carter." Valerie rejected him immediately. "You’ll be in deep trouble if anyone else finds out about your involvement. I need someone who works for the country, maybe a SWAT team or someone else."

"Can’t you try speaking to the SWAT team yourself, Deputy?"

"No, Mr. Carter. I’m not authorized to and even if I speak to them, they wouldn’t help me. They are bound by the rules." Valerie explained and Noah finally understood what she was getting at. They needed someone powerful enough to despatch a SWAT team.

"Let me check, Deputy. I’ll call you back in some time."

"Thank you, Mr. Carter. I could have looked for President Truman himself if he was in the country. But he isn’t. So, I’m at my wit’s ends and I don’t know what to do." Valerie felt defeated and exhausted and she decided to take a break once everything ended.

"I understand, Deputy. Let me check if I can help."

Noah ended the call and looked through his contacts. Even though he knew a lot of capable people, he wasn’t sure if he could get them to despatch a bomb disposal squad. It was bound to make heads turn and he would, in turn, be implicated as well when the truth came to light.

Noah was in a fix and he pushed his tongue against the inside of his cheek while Ian and Joshua looked on.

"How about Daniel’s father? Isn’t Mr. Adler trying to get into politics? Maybe he knows someone who can help us." Joshua suggested.

"But Mr. Adler doesn’t have a strong foothold in politics yet. I’m not sure if he’ll be of help to us." Ian reasoned and silence fell over them once again.

"Is there anybody else who could help us?" Joshua too started searching through his contacts with Ian doing the same a few seconds later.

"Noah, why didn’t you wake me up?" Aria appeared out of nowhere and reprimanded him as she stifled a yawn. "I slept for more than two hours. Didn’t I ask you to wake me up after an hour?" She looked at him angrily as she made her way towards them and took a seat on the couch beside Ian.

"I’m sorry, Aria. I got held up with some work. It completely escaped my mind to wake you up." Noah flashed her a guilty smile and only then did Aria see the tensed expressions on the three men.

"What’s wrong? What happened?" Aria rubbed her eyes and sat up straight.

Noah let out a frustrated sigh and ran a hand through his hair before disclosing all that had happened a few minutes after she went to sleep.

Aria’s eyes lit up in relief when she heard that the location of the explosives was discovered but worry filled her when she understood what the men were concerned about.

While the men continued to search their contacts, Aria closed her eyes and the moment she did so, Ethan’s face flashed before her, forcing her to snap her eyes open.

"Why don’t we seek from Major Ethan Meyers?" Aria looked at Ian instead of Noah or Joshua. After all, other than her, only he had met the army man.

"Yeah, we could seek his help." Ian nodded. "He is in the army and can easily despatch a bomb disposal until. But..."

"But we’ll have to come clean before him." Aria filled his words and Ian nodded.

"Do we have a choice? We will have to reveal the truth to anyone we’ll be seeking help from. So, why not him?" Aria didn’t give up and three men thought about it.

"We can give it a try though." Noah didn’t reject the idea right away. Since Aria had suggested the man, he had to be trustworthy. They might as well look for someone they could trust rather than anyone else.

"I don’t think I have his contact details though." Ian searched for his contact details but came short.

"I do. I had saved his number the day we met." Aria pulled out her phone from her pajama pants and retrieved his number immediately. "Shall I call him?"

When all three men nodded at her, Aria dialed the number and put it on speaker.

"Hello, Doctor West?" Ethan’s surprised voice fell upon their ears and Aria beamed in joy.

"Major Meyers, it’s me Aria."

"How are you? Long time." The man was obviously happy to have received her call.

"I’m good. How about you?"

"I’m good as well."

"Major Meyers..."

"Ethan. Call me Ethan, please. We are friends after all."

"Oh, well, Ethan I called you because we have an important matter to discuss with you and need your help."

"Tell me, Doctor West. What can I help you with?"

"Call me Aria, please. Are you in the city? Can we meet? I cannot explain it to you on the phone."

"I am in the city. But it may take me a few hours. I have a meeting to attend with the Army Commander. Is it urgent?"

"Yes, to be honest. Lives are at stake here and we need to act quickly before it is too late." Aria didn’t explain in detail but enough to depict the urgency of the issue.

"I see." Ethan’s voice turned serious after listening to her. "Let me see if I can postpone the meeting to some other day. I’ll call you in a few minutes."

"Surely. Thank you."

"Not a problem, Aria."

The call ended and she glanced at the three men who held similar expressions as hers. "Let’s hope for the best."

Ethan didn’t disappoint them. He called Aria back a few minutes later. "Where shall we meet, Aria?"
