Chapter 800: Finally at peace

"Preston?" Jared was still spooked to see him before him and looked at him with his eyes wide. He now realized what had happened and how he was captured. If not for Preston, how could he have been trapped?

"Did you inform them about my return?" He demanded, and Preston let out a chuckle in amusement.

"Yes. But even if I didn’t, they’d have known about it themselves." Preston replied as he studied the wounded man. He couldn’t deny that Jared’s state pleased him greatly. He had been waiting for this for years.

"What do you mean?"

"Why do you think you got caught so easily?" Preston had all the patience in him, and he answered him with a question of his own.

At first, Jared didn’t understand what was happening. But after thinking for a minute, everything fell into place.

"Did you plan all of this?" Jared’s gaze immediately went to Noah, and everyone understood to whom the question was not meant.

"No, I planned all of this," Aria replied, and Jared felt his entire world spin when he looked at the woman who had made him a eunuch.

"We knew you’d come back if you learned that Ivy was alive. After all, your plan failed, and that was a huge blow to your ego. So, we used this opportunity to capture you." She explained, and Jared felt his mind go blank for a moment.

"Isn’t the plan amazing? What do you think?" Aria smirked at him, and Jared glared at her in return.

"You...you... I’m not going to let you go, let any of you go."

"First, think about yourself, Jared. Do you think you’re in a condition to threaten us?" Preston’s words brought him back, and he directed his glare towards him instantly.

"Why did you betray me, Preston? I never harmed you. So, why?"

"Did you never harm me?" Preston questioned back incredulously. He gave him a look of disbelief. "Do you remember Sarah, my sister? Do you remember how you raped her and killed her later?"

At first, Jared couldn’t remember who Sarah was. But Preston’s words made him realize who he was speaking about, and his lips parted in shock.

"Now, you remembered. Tell me why I should not have a motive to harm you. Tell me why I shouldn’t kill you."

"But...but... I never knew she was your sister." Jared stated, and Preston clicked his tongue admonishingly.

"Do you think I’ll believe you? Never, Jared. Never. Since then, I’ve been harboring hatred towards you and wanted to kill you. If not for you being extremely careful around me, prohibiting me from carrying any weapons around you, you’d be lying in your coffin by now."

"Preston, listen to me. I..."

Preston punched his face hard, and blood oozed out of his nose immediately. Although he wasn’t satisfied with it, he didn’t do anything before he stood up and joined his friends.

None of the people in the crowd had expected Preston to have such a backstory. They felt utterly bad for him. Ivy had almost met the same fate. But they had managed to rescue her in time. However, Sarah... she hadn’t been that fortunate and had succumbed to Jared’s wicked deeds.

How much pain he must have been in all these years? How hard it must have been for him to suppress his agony as he faced the very same man who killed his sister?

Everyone felt miserable, especially Maggie, and she looked at him apologetically.

When he sensed her gaze on him, he turned towards her immediately and smiled at her lightly. But he couldn’t hide the pain on his face whatsoever, and Maggie felt all the more remorseful.

"You may do whatever you want with him. But I hope it’ll be Ivy who kills him. I guess that’ll be a form of revenge for my sister."

Everyone understood the meaning behind his words, and they all agreed to it.

"Take him away," Noah ordered, and Ronnie got to work immediately.

In no time, the entire mansion was devoid of any unwanted virus.

"Thank you, Deputy, Maggie, Ryder, and Preston for your cooperation. If not for you guys..." Aria expressed. She was truly grateful for their help. By law, Jared had to be handed over to the court. But everyone knew how far his connections stretched, and there were high chances he’d come out unscathed, and that was the last thing they wanted.

"No problem, Aria. We were just doing our duty in eliminating the scum on earth. I should instead thank you and everyone else here for helping me deal with him. I’m glad that the danger is finally over."

"Not yet." Noah butted in, gaining everyone’s attention to him. "Until we find all the bombs, the threat is not over yet. I’ll think of ways to make him speak about it."

"Surely. I guess it’s time for us to leave. I can finally sleep in peace even though it’s only for a day." Valerie joked, and everyone agreed to it, everyone but Preston.

Although he had agreed to be a part of the plan, he wasn’t sure they could stop Jared. After all, that bastard was the only one who knew where the explosives were. They had to do something before he went mad and triggered them, sending the country to its doom.

Noah noticed Preston’s lost look, and he understood his thoughts clearly for he too had the same thing in mind. But he had ordered his men to keep a close eye on Jared and inject him with knock-out drugs so that he’d do nothing devastating.

The four people took their leave, and Aria turned to Noah immediately. "I’m going to the hospital. I want to meet Ivy."

Noah understood her sentiments. Even though he was furious with her, he didn’t stop her from visiting her sister and expressing her joy and victory to her.

"I’ll accompany you."

"Me too." Ian and Joshua added at the same time, and just like that, the four people set out to the hospital immediately.
