Chapter 786: What happened that day? - Part 2

"Do you know what hurts the male pride the most?" Amber questioned as she continued smiling and Noah didn’t have to guess what her answer would be. He knew it and for a moment, he felt bad for his friend. However, the next instant, Ivy’s injured face flashed before his eyes and all his pity vanished.

"When his abilities are questioned. Joshua was pathetic at sex and I told him that Ivy would leave him too when she found out what a weakling he was and how he wouldn’t be able to satisfy her as well. To be honest, we were not confident that our plan would work." Amber gloated and Noah felt his blood boil when he saw her condescending expression.

"But who knew that Joshua had not done the deed with Ivy? Isn’t it ironic that he loves Ivy so much but didn’t go all the way with her?" Amber questioned and Noah scrutinized her silently. He didn’t miss the strange glint in her eyes as she continued to gloat about her victory and everything became crystal clear to him.

’What a fool you are Joshua!’ Noah sneered and started to doubt his friend’s intelligence. ’Didn’t you sense Amber’s lie and her plan?’ Although he understood his friend, what bugged him out was that he decided to trust his ex-girlfriend who had left him than trust Ivy who had given her everything to him.

"Your plan was good," Noah commented and Amber gave him a proud smile, only to cry out in pain the next instant when her cheek muscles pulled on her burnt skin.

"But it was not good enough to kill Ivy."

Amber’s eyes rounded for a moment and she looked at Noah in confusion. "What do you mean?"

"Jared and you might have managed to harm Ivy but were unsuccessful in taking her away from us forever." Noah stood up suddenly and Amber shuffled on her knees as she tried to move back. The way he was looking at her frightened her and she wanted to stay far away from him.

Squatting before her, he examined her with a look of contempt. Noah even loathed to breathe the same air as her. But there were a few necessary words he wanted to tell her and for that, he was willing to suppress his disdain for a moment.

"I promise you that Ivy will wake up. It’s secondary if she’ll get together with Joshua. It’s completely up to her. But I’ll make sure that she recovers. And once she does, she’ll decide your death. Until then..." Noah stood up and clapped his hands as he was brushing dust off. "Torture her to death."

Amber’s eyes widened in horror and she shook her head fervently, ignoring all other pain. "You can’t do that to me. You can’t." It was only then she realized how big of a mess she had created and what kind of danger she was in.

"Noah!!!" She screamed with all her might but there was no reaction from the man at all.

Noah didn’t heed to Amber’s cries as he walked out of the room with Ronnie right behind him.

"Keep her alive. Ivy will decide her fate." He ordered and Ronnie accepted the orders without any questions.

"Are there any other instructions, Boss?"

"No, Ronnie."

Noah sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He was frustrated, tired, and felt utterly helpless. Amber had fucked up big time but Joshua was the real deal here and he didn’t know what to do about him. It was true that whatever Amber said hurt Joshua’s pride as a man. But it was also true that he protected his heart instead of trusting Ivy and no amount of justification and apologies could rectify his errors.

"Ivy, just wake up. The world is waiting for you." He mumbled before he returned to his office.

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Aria continued to take care of her sister like she did every day.

"Ivy, when will you wake up? I can’t see you like this." Aria held her sister’s hand as she poured out all her grief and longing. "Please wake up, Ivy. We’re all waiting for you."

Since the day Ivy had reacted to her words, Aria and the others kept speaking to her, hoping that she’d listen to them and wake up. Although there were no signs of improvement in her, her health was not deteriorating either and that was enough of a hope for them. It was enough to keep them going as they continued to cater to Ivy, taking turns to pour their hearts out to her.

"I miss you so much, Ivy. Didn’t we promise that we’d be each other’s bridesmaids and watch each other getting married? Didn’t we wish to hold each other’s kids and pamper them to the sky? How can you leave before fulfilling all these promises? Do you have the heart to leave me alone?"

Barely had she finished speaking when Ivy started to breathe heavily while her body jerked and Aria stood up immediately in shock.

"Ivy!" She screamed and pressed the alarm as she held her sister’s hands. Although she was a doctor herself, her mind went blank every time she was with her sister and she felt helpless and lost.

"I’m right here, Ivy. Calm down." She held her hand as she caressed Ivy’s forehead. "I’m here. You’re safe. We’re safe. I promise." She spoke as gently as possible and slowly but surely, Ivy calmed down.

Aria sighed in relief and continued to caress her sister’s forehead. But her hand shook when she noticed Ivy’s eyeballs moving and her jaw dropped. Hope and happiness filled her heart and she almost screamed in delight when she saw Ivy opening her eyes faintly.

Ivy’s eyelids fluttered a few times before she went back to sleep again and Aria punched the air in joy while couldn’t stop smiling.

Ian and the doctor were surprised to see her this way and they looked at Ivy in wonder.

"Aria, what happened? What..." Ian felt his breath leave his lungs when Aria pounced on him and hugged him tight. Her actions stunned him and he glanced at the doctor who held a similar expression as his.

"Ivy woke up, Ian. She woke up just now." Aria cried tears of happiness and Ian’s eyes widened in excitement.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I saw her open her eyes. Although it was a fleeting moment, she did. She really did."

Ian glanced at the doctor and noticed him already at work.

While he checked her vitals, Ian held an excited Aria and waited for his opinions.

"Oh my God!"

"What’s wrong, Doctor?"

"Doctor Davis, the patient is showing signs of recovery. This is great. This is awesome." The doctor too couldn’t control his excitement and smiled widely.

Ivy was one of the most critical and hardest cases he had ever handled. Even though he was in no way related to her, he felt nothing but pure joy to find his patient waking up. The lady was a fighter for sure and she had not given up even though she had been injured to such an extent.

"Once she gains her consciousness, we’ll have to perform some tests. Only then, we can say if she’s out of danger or not."

"I understand, Doctor. Thank you so much." Ian too couldn’t hide his delight as he looked at Aria who had not stopped smiling.

’Is this the twins’ bond doing the magic?’ He wondered. Otherwise, how was it possible that Ivy reacted whenever Aria was around and no one else?
