Chapter 782: What’s Preston’s secret? - Part 1

"Boss, this is all the information I have received from my sources. Jared was last seen in Vietnam two days ago before he vanished again." Ronnie handed a file containing all the details he could obtain in a short period.

"What about the job I told you?" Noah asked as he flipped through the file coldly.

"Already done, Boss. We’ve eliminated all the gangs that supported or assisted Jared or his group in his work." Ronnie added. His sinister expression was no less different than Noah’s and every time he spoke about Jared or anyone related to him, all he felt was nothing but resentment.

In just a few hours, everything had changed. Their lives had turned upside down. All the sunny and warm days had turned cold and dark.

Ronnie was not a stranger to blood or torture. He had his fair share of experiences especially when it came to torturing people until they bled to their deaths. However, it was the first ever someone close to them, someone in their family had been tortured, and the lady had gone into a coma since then.

Since the dreadful day, everything had changed. Every damn thing. While his Boss had become a monster, eradicating everything and anything related to Jared, Joshua had become a crazy man, caring only about Ivy and nothing else. It was as if everyone else didn’t matter to him at all.

A knock at the door interrupted their conversation and Noah glanced at Ronnie who understood his instruction immediately. Opening the door wide enough for the two people to enter, he stepped back, glaring hard at one of them while he didn’t even glance another.

Tim and Preston entered the room and Noah glanced at the two of them briefly before he returned to file in his hand.

While Tim remained silent as he waited for Noah to speak, Preston couldn’t tolerate the tension and suspense. He more or less had an inkling as to why he had been called. It had to be something related to Jared. But what he didn’t know was if he’d leave the place dead or alive at the end of the day.

Preston kept fidgeting in his place as he kept exchanging his weight between his weights while he waited for Noah to speak. He didn’t dare look at anywhere else.

"What about Maggie? Did she send anything else?" Noah questioned after a long time and Preston stiffened when he heard his voice. It sounded nothing less than the devil’s call and he gulped softly as he tried to control his nervousness. The man before him was more terrifying than Jared and he now understood why.

"Yes, Boss. I have added the information as well. It’s the last part of the document." Ronnie replied as he glanced at Preston’s pale face.

"Ah, I see. An island?" Noah mused when he read through the information and glanced at Preston who seemed visibly stunned.

’Island?’ Preston didn’t have to think twice about what island he was referring to. Wasn’t it the same island he had been taken to after he was injured in the bomb blast at the seaport?

"Destroy it. There is no need for that place to exist anymore. Anything related to Jared, destroy it, reduce it to smithereens." Noah ordered as he looked directly at Preston.

"Yes, Boss." Ronnie too had his eyes fixed on Preston and noticed how the man had gone stiff as he waited for his death sentence.

"Tim, do you have something you want to add?" Noah finally moved his gaze away from Preston, allowing the man to breathe.

"Yes. All of Jared’s properties that I know have been seized and all his men have been held captive."

"Kill them all," Noah ordered without even taking a moment to consider it.

"Surely." Tim too didn’t have any qualms with it. The moment he left Jared’s gang, he held nothing but hatred towards anything related to him. He was more than happy to end Jared’s empire.

"And you?" Noah returned to his Preston who stiffened once again. "What have you got to say?"

"I...I..." Preston was at a loss for words as he stared blankly at Noah.

"Do you want to say something? Perhaps as an explanation as to why you are working for Jared." Noah prompted and Preston lowered his head when he realized what was happening.

"I have nothing to say." He finally managed to reply to him and Ronnie took a step forward in fury, only to stop when he noticed his Boss shaking his head at him.

"Are you sure you don’t want to speak a word?" Noah’s tone was laced with warning and Preston hesitated for a moment.

"Do you want to allow Jared to wreak havoc more than he already did?" Noah continued and Preston licked his lips as he thought about it.

"Do you wish to see all of Oliver and Ivy’s hard work go down the drain?"

Preston’s head shot up immediately as he stared at the man before him in shock. "How?"

Noah’s expression didn’t change as he continued to study Preston.

"I know something is stopping you and you are hesitating to reveal everything to us," Noah stated as a matter of fact. "You are putting an act before Jared when in fact, you want nothing but to see him bleed to his death. Am I right?"

Preston remained silent.

"Otherwise, Oliver would never have received any information about Mission X and neither would Ivy. You guided them to slowly destroy Jared." Noah’s lips finally arched up when he noticed a change in Preston’s gaze.

Before he could continue, however, his phone rang, disturbing them for a moment and when he saw that it was Aria calling, he didn’t hesitate to answer it.

"Noah," Her voice was tinged with happiness and Noah’s brows shot up immediately. How long had it been since he heard her joyous voice?

"Aria, what’s wrong? What happened?"

"It’s Ivy. She reacted today. She finally showed some reaction. I’m so happy, Noah. I’m so happy. She’s coming back. She’s coming back to us." Aria exclaimed and Noah’s smile spread as his expression softened.

"Is it? That’s great news." Noah too felt joy gush through his heart. It was the best news he heard since the horrifying incident and he just hoped for Ivy to wake up as quickly as possible.

"Yes. Noah. Listen, I’ll call you back later. The doctors are taking Ivy for some tests. I’ll get back to you soon."

"I understand, Aria. Take care." Noah ended the call and looked at his phone for a moment or more before his smile vanished and he became the devil again.

"So, Preston, do you want to tell us your story or shall I dig into it myself?"
