Falling in Love : I love you, Today and Forever
Chapter 764: Stranger danger

Chapter 764: Stranger danger

Joshua looked at the time and his hands on the laptop started running faster than before. It was close to nine at night and yet, here he was, in his office, working his ass off.

Reason: Ivy.

Joshua sighed and recalled the threat he had received early in the morning, just when he was about to tell her that he had taken a day off from work. Ivy had forced him out of the mansion before he could sneak in for a kiss and had closed the door on him. Then, he had received her text which clearly stated that if he were to return home before eleven, he’d be sleeping in the guest room forever.

Having no other choice, Joshua had reluctantly and with a somber mood driven to work, silently crying to himself for not getting any birthday wish from Ivy.

Joshua was heartbroken and he had spent the entire day thinking about her. All his calls to her had gone unanswered. Even though he was aggrieved, he tried to comfort himself as he continued working, only to stop suddenly when a phone call interrupted him.

Excitement and happiness immediately flashed on his face, making him smile like a blooming flower. However, it vanished the moment he noticed that it was a call from an unknown number.

Joshua became dispirited at once and ignored the call. He leaned back on her chair and stared at the ceiling, only to snap out of his thoughts when his phone rang again, only this time it was Ian who was calling him.

"Hello, Doctor. Why did you call me all of a sudden? Did you miss me?" He chirped like a happy bird, thanking his friend for calling him. Although he had work to do, he was still bored out of his mind and needed a distraction.

Ian sighed in dismay and rubbed his forehead. ’I swear if I didn’t have something important to ask this joker, I wouldn’t have called him at all. I wonder how Ivy tolerates him. She must have immense patience. I should be more considerate towards her. She needs my support and encouragement to keep going.’ He thought and made it a note to treat Ivy someday. She was the true definition of Wonder Woman.

"Joshua, what will you take to keep quiet for once?" Ian seethed, annoyed at his nincompoop of a friend.

"I don’t know. You tell me what you can offer." Joshua shot back, grinning wildly in joy.

"I don’t have time for your jabs. I have called you over an important matter."

Joshua sensed the solemnity in his tone and he stopped teasing him. His expression turned serious and he waited for Ian to continue.

"Joshua have you noticed anything strange around you."

Joshua frowned, not understanding the meaning behind his words. "Strange? As in?"

"Like have you noticed a lot of unfamiliar faces around you?"

"I still don’t understand, Ian. What unfamiliar faces?" Joshua leaned forward, his forehead creasing all the more with worry lines.

"Since the last two or three days, I have noticed a lot of people, men and women both entering the hospital for no reason," Ian explained and Joshua’s eyes widened in realization. "Neither do they consult a doctor nor do they visit any patient. They keep lingering around the hospital premises. It’s not just me. Even Aria has observed the abnormality. I’m worried...."

"That they might be Jared’s people." Joshua finished his sentence.

"We can’t rule out the possibility."

"Hmm." Joshua thought about it. "Did you speak to Noah about it?"

"I did. But since it is a public place, we can’t do much except increase the security."

"I agree. We can’t even take any action. They are yet to do something. It’d only create more mayhem if we were reckless and attack them first." Joshua analyzed the situation and realized the severity. "What do you think they intend to do?"

"I’m not sure. But the only two things they can do are either create chaos so that they can bring a bad name to the hospital which they did once in the past or they are trying to target Aria or me or both."

"This is bad then. We should be careful."

"That’s why I called to ask if you have noticed anything strange around you."

"No. It’s impossible for them to enter the building with an ID card. So, I don’t have to worry about that. And as far as I know, I haven’t noticed anyone suspicious outside the company either." Joshua tried to recall if he had seen someone as such but couldn’t remember seeing anything dubious.

"That’s good then." Ian sighed in relief. "I just hope it’s nothing and is all a false alarm. I just don’t want a mess when we’re finally about to end Jared for good."

"Absolutely. But I’ll still try to find information regarding the people you just mentioned. I might have to use your surveillance system for some time."

"Not a problem. They are all yours. Thanks. I’ll owe you this."

"I’ll remember." Joshua did not show any formality.

Ian ended the call and Joshua started to look into the matter immediately. Just as Ian mentioned, he noticed quite a few people regularly entering the hospital with no purpose of any sort.

However, when he tried to run a background check on the people, he came up with nothing substantial. They were just normal people with regular jobs and were in no way associated with Jared. However, this fact perturbed him all the more. They were too clean for him to not suspect anything.

He forwarded all that he had found out to Ian while trying to look for more details. However, their information was limited and after some time he came with a blank. They were just normal people living a normal life.

Scratching his head in dismay, he eventually gave up and sent a message to Noah asking him to meet him the next morning.

Joshua glanced at the time again. On noticing that it was almost ten, he got up, ready to go home for the day. However, the moment he packed his things, his phone rang and it was the same unknown number he had not answered the previous time.

Wondering who would call him at this time, he received the call.

"Joshua, this is Amber. Please do not end the call. Can we meet?"

"Amber, I don’t want to see you ever again. Just leave me alone." Joshua’s entire mood turned worse and he gnashed his teeth in fury.

"Joshua, please. I have something important to tell you."

"I’m in no mood to listen to your nonsense."

"Joshua, do you not want to know why I broke up with you? You may think that I left you for money. But that’s not the truth. There is some other reason for me leaving you and if you want to learn the truth, come to Cafe Xtasy. I’ll be waiting for you."

With that, the call ended.
