Chapter 763: Prepared for the next stage?
Two days later.
Aria kept pacing back and forth in her room while Noah observed her with a smile on his face. He chuckled to himself and stared at her fondly, wondering what had got her stressed..
"What’s wrong, Aria? What’s got you all perturbed? Slow down. Otherwise, you’ll exhaust yourself." Noah tried to calm her down but the lady was having none of it. She was vexed and she couldn’t ease her mind even after listening to Noah’s comforting words.
"No, no. I can’t stop worrying, Noah. I don’t know why Ivy asked to meet us. Did something happen? Why did she say it was urgent? Did she..." Aria stopped suddenly when a notion entered her mind. "Did she and Joshua break up? Is that what she wants to speak about?"
"Aria..."
"No, no, that can’t be. Didn’t she say that she was going to propose to him? Why would Ivy and Joshua break up?" Aria kept muttering without giving her mouth a break.
Noah sat up straight as soon as he heard Aria’s words. "What did you just say?" He was in disbelief and he could not help but wonder if he was imagining things now. Ivy was thinking of proposing Joshua? This was huge news for him
"Don’t distract me, Noah. I’m already stressed." Aria brushed him off lightly and started pacing back and forth in the room again.
Noah could not sit still anymore and he got off the bed, blocking Aria’s path much to her dismay. She glared at him and tried to push him away. But the man did not budge.
"Go away, Noah. Don’t block my path." She was so tense that she was not enamored by the almost naked man before her. His bare, chiseled torso did not distract her like it usually did.
"Aria, did you just say Ivy’s going to propose to Joshua?"
"Yes, that’s what Ivy told me a few days ago."
"Are you sure about it?"
Aria gave him a look that was asking him if he had gone nuts.
"How is it possible?" Now it was Noah’s turn to stress and he started to walk back and forth.
"Why can’t it be possible? Is something wrong with Ivy and Joshua being together?" Aria gave him a confused look before her eyes widened suddenly. "Don’t say Joshua is having second thoughts and he has no intentions to build a future with Ivy! I’m going to kill him if it is true."
Noah did not know whether to laugh or cry at Aria’s obnoxious deductions. Her mind was cooking up way too many dramatic thoughts and he did not know how to stop them.
"I didn’t mean it that way. What I meant was didn’t they get into a relationship after we did? Why are they in a hurry?" Noah frowned. He could not accept that his friend’s girlfriend was already thinking of proposing and they were about to reach the next stage in life while he and Aria were still nowhere near.
"This was exactly what I told her. It’s been less than a year since they started their relationship. I advised her to take her time and then proceed."
"Maybe, she’s here to speak about it. Maybe she perceived your words and wants to take some time before proposing." Noah shrugged lightly.
"Possible." Aria looked at the time and huffed. "Whatever, I’ll find out when she arrives. She’ll be here soon. Are you coming down too?"
"Yes. I too am curious to find out what she wants to tell you."
"What a gossipmonger!" Aria rolled her eyes and departed from the bedroom.
"You do not understand, Aria, You do not understand."
Noah wore a shirt as quickly as possible and rushed after Aria. Even though Ivy was yet to arrive, he did not intend to miss anything. The matter was more critical than anything and it needed his undivided attention.
"When will she arrive?"
"She’ll be here soon. Are you here to freeload on gossip, Mr. Carter?"
"I just want to welcome my sister-in-law. Why? Am I not allowed?"
Aria gave him a bored look. She was well-versed with Noah by now and she understood his thoughts brilliantly. Even though she knew the reason he was here with her, she did not expose him, allowing him to stay in his bubble.
"How come the great Carter is so free that he is willing to welcome me?" Ivy had just arrived at the door when she heard Noah’s words and she spit out a laugh.
"Hey, you can’t say that. You’ll hurt my feelings." Noah made a pitiful face and Aria groaned internally in dismay.
’And he says Joshua is dramatic. What irony!’
"Whatever." Ivy was in no mood to entertain his jabs. The three friends were equally dramatic. And yet they blamed each other. How funny!
"Aria, may I speak to you in private?"
"You may speak here, Ivy. I don’t mind." Noah stated as if he would not be interested in their conversation and would just mind his work.
"He knows that you want to propose to Joshua." Aria did not save him any face and threw him under the bus, forcing Noah to look at her in horror.
"And he must be lamenting his fate. I got it."
The sisters did not hesitate to poke at Noah’s wounds and the man had nothing to say in return. It was the truth, he couldn’t deny it.
"Well, the thing is I’m now skeptical about all this." Ivy plopped on the couch and leaned back with her head raised towards the ceiling.
"Elaborate."
"I just don’t think the time is right and even if I’m ready, Joshua may not be. It is better I take my time, improve our relationship, and then think about proposing. I suddenly feel I’m rushing."
Noah gave Aria a look that said ’See, I was right’.
Aria ignored him and focused on her sister who was obviously troubled.
"In that case, give your relationship more time. Cultivate your relationship more and then take the next step."
"I agree." Noah intervened all of a sudden. "Try to find out what his stance in this matter is and where he stands. How about this? It’s Joshua’s birthday in three days. You can use this opportunity to understand what his thoughts are and then decide." He suggested and both the sisters looked at him in admiration.
"Hmm, you can be useful if you want." Aria praised and Noah bowed his head like a gentleman.
"Then, it’s fixed. I’ll do as you say." Ivy returned to her warm self and she winked at her brother-in-law in gratitude. "Thank you so much, Noah. You saved me from having a headache."
