Chapter 757: Three advices
Chapter 757: Three advices
Aria did not care that she had reprimanded the old Carter in the presence of everyone. She did not even care that Noah’s parents were nearby. She stared at Grandpa Carter intensely, forcing the man to avert his gaze again.
"Grandpa," Aria sighed and her shoulders sagged. "Although I can lie against my conscience and say that you are not at fault and don’t blame yourself, I can’t do it. It will not be right, for me as well as for you."
She started, ignoring everyone else in the room. Her words were meant solely for the old Carter to hear. Even if she was harsh, he had to hear them.
"Your intentions when you started the mission were good. But it was the others who misused this opportunity. You’ve tried your best to stop him and his crimes. If I were in your place, I don’t think I’d have been able to accomplish such an amazing feat." Aria revealed all that she had in her mind.
"If I’m not wrong, Jared’s actions stopped for a while after Dad went missing. And I do not have to guess who is responsible for it. This shows how much effort you have put to end him and his group. Valerie is right in her place. She lost her only family and she has every right to be angry. But that does not mean you killed her father. It was someone else who murdered him."
Aria explained, slowly and gently. Her years of experience handling children in the hospital came into help and gradually and surely, the old man calmed down. He fixed his teary eyes on Aria who at that moment seemed like a divine being in his mind.
Jonathan did not know if his eyes were playing games with him and it was all his hallucination, he felt that there was a halo behind Aria, making her seem all the more ethereal.
"You may be guilty for the pain Valerie and many others went through, Grandpa. But that does not mean you inflicted the pain on them. If it makes you feel any better, there is a way in which you can lessen the guilt you are feeling."
"Tell me, child. I’ll do everything." Jonathan clutched Aria’s hand tight while he stared at her hopefully.
"First, reveal to the world about Mission Code X. Let everyone know what is happening and where things went wrong. You may be condemned for it. But the people who suffered deserve to know the truth at least."
Jonathan went silent all of a sudden. Even Noah frowned when he listened to her suggestion.
"Aria..." He hesitated, not knowing what to say. Although she was right, he was worried for his grandfather. It would not be as easy as coming clean before them. The nation may not take this matter as calmly as they did.
"I’m willing to do it," Jonathan stated suddenly, his tone filled with resolve.
"Dad." Samuel cried in disbelief. Even Noah was stupefied by his declaration.
"I owe them this." Jonathan’s tone turned adamant. He had made up his mind and no one could change it. It was time to repent his sins and he did not care about what anyone else said.
"Think about it carefully again, Grandpa, before you make a decision. It will not be easy." Aria warned.
"I understand, child. You don’t have to worry. My decision was not made on a whim. Tell me what I should do next."
Aria’s lips twitched in amusement when he noticed the old Carter’s expressions. He looked as if was waiting for the winning numbers for the lottery to be revealed. She held back her laughter and thought about the next suggestion she had in mind.
"Second, bring justice to the people who have suffered. Divulge all the information you have collected over the years and reveal it to the public directly. Since you feel the judicial system might not be of much help, take advantage of the media. I’m sure you know what to do. I do not have to explain it in detail."
"You are right," Jonathan exclaimed suddenly. "Why didn’t I think of it?" He smacked his forehead, startling everyone with his actions. "I know what exactly to do. Thank you, child. Thank you so much."
"Grandpa, I have something more to say." Aria hesitated and glanced at Noah who nodded at her in encouragement.
’When did Aria think about all of these? Why did she not say a word to me? As expected, the lady I love is smart and kind.’ He praised her in his mind with a fond smile lingering on his lips.
"What is it, child? Tell." Jonathan looked at Aria with a warm smile. The more he looked at her, the more he liked her. She was absolutely the best and there was none better for his grandson. He felt fortunate for Noah to have met such a delightful and incredible lady.
"I’m not sure if you will like this suggestion." She dithered but nonetheless still disclosed her idea.
"Grandpa, if possible, could you organize a job fair for the people who have become victims of Jared’s vicious plan? I heard from Dad that quite a few people lost their jobs, especially the ones who did labor work and are having a hard time trying to make ends meet. It would be good if they could be provided with a job based on their skills and abilities. There are a lot of jobs that do not require a lot of physical work."
Aria’s voice lowered at the end and she did not know if her suggestion was feasible or not. She had this notion for quite some time. But she neither had the resources nor the power to organize such a huge event. So, she could only seek the old Carter’s help.
All the members of the Carter family were astounded by her suggestion. It was a brilliant idea and they could not help but look at the lady who had suggested it in admiration.
Jonathan’s eyes gleamed as he beamed at Aria. he was proud, happy and felt blessed at the same time.
"Aria, thank you so much. Thanks a lot. You have shown me the path to redemption and I’ll follow all your advice. Thank you, child."
Aria was stunned for a moment. She never expected the old man to agree to her suggestions this quickly. But she recovered soon and shook her head. "No problem, Grandpa."
"Father, are you going keep Aria squatting? She must be uncomfortable by now." Hailey reminded and Jonathan realized only then that Aria was still squatting before him.
"Get up, Aria. Get up, child. Look at me. You must be in pain." Jonathan tried to help her. But her legs gave away the moment she moved. They had gone numb from staying in the same position for a long time.
Aria hissed in pain and Noah was quick to catch her. Without further delay, he picked her up and looked at his family. Although no word was said between them, they understood his intentions and they nodded at him, their faces filled with contented smiles before the young man left the living room.
