Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 82: Investigation

Chapter 82: Investigation

"There was someone else at the scene as well."

Sidney glanced up from the stack of papers he was reviewing, his eyes narrowing. "What did you just say?"

His assistant shifted nervously but repeated, "I asked around the neighborhood, sir. Wanted to see if anyone had seen or heard anything after the explosion. Turns out, there were two other people on the site before the authorities arrived."

Sidney’s pen paused mid-air. "Go on."

"One of them was a man," the assistant continued, "who borrowed a fire extinguisher from one of the neighbors. The other... well, the other was a woman."

"A woman?" Sidney’s voice was measured, but there was a glint of curiosity, even suspicion, behind his calm tone. Could it be? Could Serena have been there like they’d expected?

"Yes, sir," the assistant replied. "But the woman’s identity is unclear. No one got a good look at her. She was in the man’s car, the entire time. The only reason we even know she was there is because one of the neighbors overheard the police officers talking among themselves as how she was lucky to have stepped out of the house just a few moments before the attack happened. However, the police report does not mention any woman and even the person who informed them was said to be a neighbor but none of the neighbours know him.

"Also, the police report does not have anything mentioning that someone tried to control the fire before the fire department arrived."

Sidney leaned back in his chair, fingers steepled in front of his chin as he processed the information. His mind raced with possibilities. Another man with Serena? Who had she turned to for help this time with Owen out of the pictures. And if the police investigation had glaring holed like his assistant was finding out, then chances were the police were deliberately keeping things under wraps.

That was not good. Who was it that had the power to make the police hide things even from him?

"Keep digging," he finally said, "I want to know everything. Every detail, every whisper. Understood?"

"Of course, sir. And there is something else as well."

"What is it?"

"Its the other branch of the family. There is something going on there. It seems Charles Hawk and his wife have taken refuge there..."

"Really? Charles Hawk? Why?"

"No one knows the reason. Not even them. But it seems, Aiden Hawk had a falling out with Charles and his wife over something and threw them out. That is not all, he has also cut them off, from what I understand."

Sidney’s lips curled into a small, satisfied smile as he leaned further back in his chair. "Aiden finally stood up to his father, did he?" His voice carried a note of amusement, but his eyes gleamed with curiosity. He had always known there was tension between Aiden and Charles, but for Aiden to actually throw his father and stepmother out was unexpected—and intriguing.

His assistant nodded. "Yes, sir. From what I’ve gathered, the split is real, and Aiden seems determined to cut all ties. No one knows what caused the falling out, though. Actually, not just cut off all ties, it seems Charles Hawk has offended him this time. He’s already warned all the directors of his company if someone tries to help Charles, they will face severe consequences.. And he probably knows that Charles Hawk is currently with the Price family.

Sidney’s eyes sharpened at that. Charles Hawk was a prick. If there was one person Sidney hated more than Aiden then it was probably Charles. To have him take shelter in his own family, made his eyes narrow coldly.

If Aiden finally had enough of his father, then something must have happened to triggered it. Which was saying something. Who could have Charles harmed that he finally was able to get Aiden to turn on him especially when Aiden had forgiven the man for an attempt on his own life?

Sidney’s eyes sharpened as he considered the possibilities. He leaned back, running a hand over his jaw. "If Aiden has turned on his father, then something serious must’ve gone down," he murmured, more to himself than to his assistant. "Something worth investigating."

His mind drifted briefly to Aiden’s wife, a woman he had only caught a glimpse of before having to leave that night. Could she have been the catalyst that finally pushed Aiden to act? Who was she? Could a woman really have melted the ice in Aiden Hawk’s cold heart?

This was turning out to be more interesting than he’d already anticipated. He’d already tried investigating the woman but she’d been kept hidden too well. So now, the only way to find out more about this woman was to approach Mabel Hawk. If anyone could give him insight into what had driven Aiden to this point or who his wife really was, then it would be the matriach of the Hawk family.

Having come to a conclusion, he ordered," Arrange a meeting with Chairwoman Hawk. Also, keep an eye on all movements of the secon branch. Charles Hawk is not to be trusted. I’m not convinced that that part of the family won’t turn on me if it suits their needs and they believed they have a powerful support. I want to know exactly what they’re up to."

"Yes, Sir. I’ll get to it right away."

As the assistant left, Sidney stood up and walked to the window, looking outside. Finally, the cracks in the Hawk family were beginning to show, but he wasn’t about to rush into anything just yet. Soon, he would know if this fight was something he could exploit or if he needed to wait still.

"Aiden, because of you, I lost the one that was most important to me. And now, you’ve found someone important to you. Do what you can to hold onto her. Show me that you really have fallen for her, letting her become your weakness. And when she is that, I will strike...
