Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 72: The Empty Bowl

Chapter 72: The Empty Bowl

Serena glanced at the near empty bowl in her hand and then at Owen. Dam* it! She’d actaully fed the entire bowl to Owen and yet, Aiden was nowhere to be found. Let him come and then she would teach him the importance of getting somewhere on time! At this rate, she might have to use violence to get away from here. Of course, she’d already thought of a plan.

Owen wanted to used congee to drug her? Now she would use it to hit him. A simple smack on the head with the upturned bowl ought to slow him down well. Just then, the doorbell rang outside. Serena perked up. Hopefully it was Aiden!

As she stood up to go out, Owen caught her hand, pulling at it to sit back," Don’t go! What if it is the goons? You just sit here and eat." With that, he tried to press the bowl into her hand but Serena narrowed her eyes and let go of the bowl, letting the liquid splatter to the floor.

She frowned and turned to look at him, "Now look what you did! She’d prepared with so much hard work! Now, I’ll just have to clean it up!

Serena tugged at her hand and yet, he wouldn’t let go, making her frown," Come on, Owen. Just let me go and bring the mop at least..."

However, before she could take another step, he forcefully tugged at her hand. Not having expected that, Serena lost her footing and fell. The next minute, the man had rolled over so that she was under him.

"Serena! I love you. I am so happy that you chose to leave that man for me. But..."

Serena frowned, pushing hard against Owen’s shoulder. "Move, Owen! You’re still injured," she tried to warn him, still keeping the pretence that she didn’t see through his entire plan.

"Serena, I—"

She cut him off with a scowl, pressing harder. "Get off of me, Owen, now! Or else..." Even as she uttered the threat, she was already readying to kick the man to make him move.

But before she could act on that thought, the door to the room burst open. Both their heads snapped toward the sudden noise. Standing in the doorway was Aiden, his fists clenched at his sides. Behind him, Maya peeked around, her face pale, clearly terrified by the scene in front of her.

Owen, completely unfazed, sent Aiden a gloating look, his lips curling into a triumphant smile. "You’re too late, Aiden Hawk. She chose me over you. Face it—you’ve been cheated."

But before Owen could finish basking in his victory, he suddenly winced and rolled off Serena, clutching his nose in shock. Serena had punched him square in the face.

"What the! You bit!" As he screamed in shock, Serena stood up and shrugged, "Oops. I thought you didn’t hear me properly, Owen. I did warn you."

Owen groaned on the bed, his hand still covering his nose as blood trickled between his fingers. "You broke my nose!"

Serena raised an eyebrow, stepping away from him as if he were no more than an inconvenience. "Consider yourself lucky I didn’t aim lower and use my knee." She then turned to Aiden and muttered," A minute later and you would have been responsible for erasing the future generation of these Thompsons. Though from their behaviour, it might have been a blessing."

Behind him, Serena watched Maya slink away and quickly called her out," Hey you. Stop there."

But instead of stopping, Maya made a run for the door...Swearing, Serena was about to run after her when something hit against Maya’s head and she stumbled to the floor. She turned to see Aiden standing there, having thrown a small show piece at her head. " Good aim. Now come on help me."

Hurriedly, Serena moved about and started to tie Owen who was only now recovering from the hit on his nose. "Why are we tying them up?"

"We don’t have much time. Just do it..."

Once the two had been tied up, Serena quickly caught Aiden’s hand and raced out of the door and towards his car.

"Why are we staking a claim here, outside this house instead of questioning him?"

Serena shot a look at Aiden and then quickly showed him the two phones to him. "Here. This is the phone that he used to blackmail you and this other phone, he made a deal with someone else about me as well. And before you came, I am sure he messaged the location of this place from his phone. Whoever this person is, they must be my family."

Aiden stilled as he took the phone from her hand. Her family? He had mixed feelings about this entire matter. He checked the phone number and it wasn’t Sidney’s so maybe they would be ableto find her real family.

Just then, he received a message on the phone and showed it to Serena. They both frowned at the question in the message. Why would someone ask if Owen and Serena were still in the house. Exchanging a glance with Serena, Aiden typed out ’yes’ on the phone and hit sent.

"Do you think they will come?", Serena asked softly while Aiden shrugged, as clueless as her.

But soon, another sound emerged—a low rumble that grew louder and louder as a lone motorcycle raced closer to them. And then, unexpectedly, the motorcycle stopped, right outside of the gate. Serena moved to step out but before she could, they watched in horror as the man pulled out something and then threw it towards the house...before racing away

A loud explosion echoed down the enitre street and even as Serena watched in horror, while she was pushed down by Aiden who reacted faster.

The house behind them erupted in flames, glass and debris scattering like lethal confetti. "Aiden! Owen and Maya..." But before she could say more, Aiden was already calling the police...
