Maya stumbled at the unexpected greeting and quickly stepped back, eyeing the woman carefully. It was true that women in love really were foolish. Here she was being held for ransom not from one but two people but instead of trying to run away, she was taking care of her kidnapper. What had a man like Aiden hawk seen in a foolish woman like her? She did not even have the most basic survival instincts.

Also, it was clear that this Owen had no money of his own, meanwhile Aiden Hawk was as powerful as his name and just as rich. What a fool.

Even as she called Serena all kinds of fool in her head, she did not show it, smiling calmlt as she stepped back and smiled," Its alright, ma’am. I was quite scared too. I hope you understand that. I can’t lose the job."

Serena nodded and holding the maid’s hand, she pulled her in, before ’closing’ the door. Of course, because she’d already thrown a curvebell at Maya, the maid did not realise that the door was not closed all the way.

Maya tugged at her hand and then stopped her," I’ll go and prepare breakfast..."

Serena frowned and nodded," Alright. Thank you."

As she returned to the room, Serena’s glanced at the time and frowned. This woman really was punctual. So they were going to drug her next?

Slowing down, she thought back to the two phones she’d found in Owen’s bag. The man really was an experienced blackmailer it seemed. From one phone, he’d messaged Aiden askign for a ransom from him and then from the other, he’d asked for a ransom from someone else as well. That someone else was probably from her family. And yet.

It was also clear that both the parties had paid the ransom but Owen could not possibly hand her over to both. So, he was going to hand her over to her family after drugging her. Because that person was the one who had been promised an earlier time and been warned that she would be drugged.

She should have already messaged the location of the place to them and asked them to come for her, but somehow, she’d decided to message Aiden. She didn’t know why, but she trusted him more, especially after this fiasco.

The only problem was that she didn’t know if he’d seen the message or not. It had been almost an hour since she’d messaged him so he should be here soon, right? Hopefully, or else she might just have to get violent and get rid of these people. But she didn’t want to. She wanted to question Owen about the other people.

As she walked into the room, she stiffened. Owen was checking the phone. Specifically the one which he had used to message those other people. Dam* it! Was he suspicious?

While she stood frozen, Owen looked up and smiled at her, before casually placing the phone down and saying, "Is it Maya? I am really hungry. I hope she makes something nice. Rena, aren’t you hungry?"

Serena clenched her teeth but smiled at him, forcefully reminding herself that she was not supposed to break this man’s teeth before she had some answers. "I am famished. And yes, she is making breafast. By the way, Owen, how do you know Maya. I mean I know Aiden’s people took you with them and hurt you some more but then how did you escape? And how did you get to Maya? Did you know her?"

Even though she came to sit back casually at his bedside, in fact, she was very serious about the question. It had not striked her as off earlier, probably becasue she had been worried about this man and angered at Aiden, whom she thought had betrayed her. Well, he had hidden things from her, but that was a different matter for now.

Getting Maya to be able to come to her so quickly, meant that he’d probably been in touch with her already, keeping an eye on her and Aiden. What a devious man!

As she stared at him, however, Owen quickly spun a story," I didn’t know her. She is just someone kind who decided to help. I was actually planning to go to my friend’s place but then I realized that those men might follow me there. I didn’t want to bring trouble for anyone. So, I thought that Aiden’s people might look everywhere but not in his own home. So I went there. Then I saw Maya and begged her to help me."

"Oh." Serena murmured. "Maya is such a kind soul. She took such a huge risk to bring your message to me and even brought you home. I must remember to give her a reward when I return today."

"You’re planning to leave?"

Serena nodded and then before he could say anything reassured him," Don’t worry. I’ll go and talk to Aiden. Get a divorce. Over the night, I’ve been thinking. I’d rather be with you than with him. I’ll get a divorce, sue him to get at least half of his property and then we can live peacefully."

Serena watched as dollar signs seemed to appear in his eyes and he shot his phone a look. She’d bet that he was now tempted to change his mind... What a leech!

Before he could actually change his mind, Maya entered the room, with two bowls of congee. Interesting...

"Madam. This is for you. And this is for Mr Owen."

Serena looked down at the bowl in her hand and then at the one in Owen’s hand. Smart. She’d even brought out different coloured bowls so as not to get confused. Casually, she placed the bowl in her hand on the side table and took Owen’s and watched the panic on both their faces as Maya muttered," Don’t take this! The other one is yours."

Serena raised her brow then,’ Really Maya? What difference does it make if I take this bowl or that? Both look same to me? What?Did you add some love potion to Owen’s bowl?" Without waiting for an answer, she brought the spoon near her lips and gently blew to cool it down begore extending it to Owen with a smile," Here. Let me feed you."
