Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 47: A Dream Or Reality

Chapter 47: A Dream Or Reality

"Rena," he began, his voice trembling slightly as if weighed down by the enormity of his words. "I’ve liked you from the very beginning. I know that I’m not worthy of you, and maybe I never will be. Even so, I needed to confess my feelings to you, so I would have no regrets. I want you to know that there is someone out there who will always love you and cherish you, no matter what."

"You! What are you saying?" Her voice came out more urgent than she intended, carrying a note of distress. "How can you just confess your feelings like this and then try to leave?"

She sat there in the midst of a quiet restaurant where he’d invited her to a date. Why would he simply do something like this and try to escape then?

She frowned, why couldn’t she see his face clearly. They should have had better lighting in this restaurant. "I don’t want to burden you," he said gently and she realized he was bloting not because he was nervous but because he thought that she wouldn’t answer him. "I never meant to put you in a difficult position or make you give me an answer. That was never my intention. I’m leaving now because I don’t want you to feel pressured or uncomfortable. I just wanted you to know, in case it matters to you. If you ever feel alone, then remember that I love you always..."

As he turned to leave, she reached out and gently grasped his wrist, halting his progress.

"Wait," she said softly, her voice trembling slightly with emotion. He turned back, his face still partially obscured by shadows, but she could see his eyes. They were so beautiful...

She covered the distance between them and placed her hand on his shoulder, "I would gladly accept your love," she murmured. "But loving me is not going to be easy. I have my own struggles, my own fears, and my own obstacles. But if you’re willing to face those challenges with me, then I want to be with you."

"I’m willing," he cupped her face and said in an excited almsot teary voice. "I know it won’t be easy, but I’m ready to face whatever comes our way. If you’re willing to take this journey with me, then I’m here, now and always."

He leaned forward then, wanting to kiss her but she stepped back and looked up at him," Not yet. This... can we date each other first?"

"Of course. I feel like this is all a dream... Rena.. Can I hug you?"

Rena nodded, and she looked up at him as he moved closer to her...

Her eyes snapped open then and she returned from the dimly lit restaurant to reality.

"Why couldn’t I see his face clearly?" she murmured to herself, her voice barely a whisper as she stared up. "It’s like there was always something keeping me from fully understanding who he is. She sighed and did not try to think of the matter again, choosing to ignore it, for she knew that this would only make her feel sick.

She’d fallen asleep, thinking of Aiden’s confession and her own confused feelings and woken up to this...

Was she really in love with this man? But why did that girl in her dreams feel so different? She’d felt the emotions of the girl when she’d had the memory the other two times. The first time she had been rebellious and sad over the fight but determined.

And then the second time, the girl had been indifferent to the woman’s demands. Even when the man had come to her defence, she’d only felt... mildly satisfied.

And tonight’s dream, she’d just had someone confess her love, but instead of happiness, the girl had been feeling numb and somewhat confused, almost grasping at the man’s confession. Also she did not confess her love to him. She only said that loving her would be difficult...

She thought back to Aiden’s aggrieved face from a few hours ago and when he had confessed to liking her. The feelings for both the men were so vastly different.

"That girl didn’t even look or act like me," Serena thought. "There was something lifeless about her, something that didn’t feel right. It’s as if she was a mere shadow of who I am. But if I am sure it is me in those dreams and not something else, then why the feeling of disconnection?"

The stark contrast between the vivid dreams and the reality of her feelings for Aiden left her feeling unsettled. She needed to talk to someone.. But who? She thought of Aiden. Since he was the only one who knew the situtation as much as her, she got off from the bed resolutely to go and talk to him.

However, as she walked closer to his room, she hesitated. What was she supposed to say to him? That his confession and his closeness reminded her of another man? Just as she was about to convince herself to turn back, she noticed the light in his study. He was still awake? Probably working after wasting the entire day with her...

As she reached for the handle, however, her hand stilled. He was talking to someone on the phone about her... She frowned as she leaned in close to hear his voice. What was he trying to say...

However the next words that she heard, tilted her world on its axis... She stilled and almost stepped back, but something kept her rooted to the spot. Her hands trembled slightly, gripping the door handle as if it were the only thing anchoring her to reality. She felt a cold sweat break out on her forehead, and the warmth from earlier seemed to drain away.

She stepped back, one step, then two before she almost stumbled over her own feet. The voice from inside stopped then and she realized that he probably heard something... She stepped back hurriedly. She needed to go back to her room. If he discovered her standing here... Taking a deep breath, she raced back to her room, closing the door just as Aiden’s door opened fully...
