Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 33: Sleep
Chapter 33: Sleep
You’ve been caught." Serena’s grin was playful as she wrapped her arms around Aiden, who looked like he was barely managing to stay upright.
Aiden glanced down at the arm supporting him as he took a sip of his coffee, his eyebrows knitting together in mild confusion. "Caught doing what exactly?" he asked, his voice tinged with suspicion.
Serena’s eyes darted around the room, as if she was about to reveal a closely guarded secret. She leaned in closer, and whispered, "You’ve been hiding something, and now it’s all coming to light... You, Aiden Hawk, are nothing more than a measly human."
"Is that so? And how, may I ask, did you reach this erroneous conclusion?", he asked with a flicker of amusement.
"Its that coffee. It is barely keeping you upright. Tsk tsk. Classic human behaviour."
As Aiden would have turned to go back to the room, Serena turned him away, walking towards the exit," Did you forget the way back to the room? Do you need a map?"
"Ha ha. Very funny. No.I do not need a map. I have been ordered by Grandma to take you home and tuck you in."
"Grandma asked you to tuck me in? Really? Do I look like a five-year-old to you?"
"Well, to grandma maybe." Serena shrugged amazed that the man was still coming along obediently. It must be the shock, she decided. Or else, it was impossible for Aiden Hawk to be so cooperative. As they walked into the elevator, Serena said," Since you don’t trust my driving, I’ll book a cab."
"No need for that. My assistant is already here. He will take us."
As they stepped out of the building, assistant An was already waiting by the car, a sleek black luxury vehicle with tinted windows.
The moment the door closed behind them, however, Aiden wasted no time. He reached for a leather briefcase on the seat beside him, pulling out a thick stack of files.
Serena watched him. "Aiden," she began, her voice carrying a note of exasperation, "this is not what Grandma had in mind when she told you to take me home."
Without looking up from the documents, Aiden replied, "Correction. You’re going home. I’m heading to the office. There’s something I need to take care of."
Serena opened her mouth to argue but then watched him with narrowed eyes. The man could barely keep his eyes open, and he wanted to work.
Without a word to him, she leaned forward and whispered something to the Assistant who tried to explain," Ma’am. It would disturb him..."
She shook her head and asked Aiden," I want to hear some music. You have a problem with that?"
Aiden shook his head, " As long as the music keeps you quiet..."
Serena gave a triumphant smile to assistant An who sent a concerned glance to the boss, before giving up and pulling up the partition and playing the music that had been requested.
Soon, calm melodic music started to play in the enclosed space. Soon, Aiden’s movements became slower, more languid, until eventually, his head started to droop. It was then he realized that he’d been played and shook his head to keep awake but more than twenty four hours of exhaustion and worry overtook his body and he promised himself. He would lean back for a while. Only a minute’s rest and then he would get back to work.
Serena took the opportunity and quickly took the file from his hand, slipping closer to him. As his head lolled, she gently pulled it to her shoulder, patting his head as if he really was a little child that needed to be tended to. She grinned when a little snore escaped his mouth and quickly grabbed her phone. Well, how could she miss this opportunity? This would be the perfect blackmail material...
Once everything had been settled to her satisfactimon, she pressed the small button on the side and instructed," Assistant An, there is a change in plan. We’re not going home just yet. We’ll be driving around the city for a while." As the city lights flickered outside the windows, Serena gazed out, her hand absently smoothing Aiden’s hair, relieved that he would get some rest at least."
Just then, her eyes caught the file that had been in his hand and she took it curiously.
Aiden stirred, after what felt like hours and blinked groggily. It took him a moment to realise that he was still in the car and his head was resting on... Slowly he straightened up, as he realized he’d been almost sleeping on top of Serena who’s head was now laid back, eyes closed.
Rubbing his eyes, he glanced at the watch, amazed that it had been almost two hours since they left the hospital. His eyes widened. Why were they still driving around?
He pressed the button, and immediately questioned An who informed him about Serena’s instructions. Aiden groaned. Dam* it! Cursing his own foolishness for putting down his guard in her presence, Aiden grabbed the nearest file. He’d make An drop him at the office first, then send her home while she was still asleep.
However, as he opened the file, ready to work, his eyes widened at the notes and comments that had been made. They were exactly what he would have suggested. Quietly, he read through each file and realized that someone had almost finished his work for him. But instead of feeling thankful, he suddenly felt suspicious.
How could someone remember business but not remember themselves? Could it be that her memory was returning? But if that was true, then it could be dangerous letting her near his work. She could leak the details...
As if feeling his suspicious gaze on her, Serena woke up. And blinked." Why are you staring at me as if you’ve seen a ghost?"
Aiden shook his head and pointed to the file," You did this?" Serena looked down at the file and nodded," Of course I did this? Do you think you have a magic pen that can read your mind or something? So, what do you think of the changes I’ve proposed?"
