Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 32: Awake
Chapter 32: Awake
"Grandma! You scared the life out of us!" Serena exclaimed the moment she saw her sitting up in the hospital bed, smiling.
Grandma chuckled softly, opening her arms wide. "I gave myself a scare as well, my dear. Now, come here and give your old grandma a hug. It’s the best medicine."
Without hesitation, Serena quickly walked over to the older woman and hugged her lightly, feeling as if she’d lost a lot of weight suddenly. She was almost tempted to hug the older woman tightly so that she would be assured that she really was fine, but Serena refrained knowing she could hurt grandma.
However, Grandma seemed to sense her weakness as she lightly patted her cheek and then said," Come here, sit beside me."You’re trembling. You look more frightened than I feel."
Serena managed a weak smile as she settled into the chair. "It’s just... we were so worried." Serena’s voice faltered, her emotions catching up with her.
Grandma squeezed her hand gently. "Hush now, no need to dwell on those thoughts. I’m still here, aren’t I? And as stubborn as ever. Also, my granddaughter was in the hospital for a year and so brave. Then why would I give in within a day? Do you take me for a weakling?"
Serena smiled at grandma’s attempt to make light of the situation and quickly nodded her head," Of course not. You are no weakling!"
"But you have to promise me you’ll take it easy, Grandma. No more giving us these scares, alright?"
As Serena settled into the chair, Grandma turned her attention to Aiden, who had been sitting in a corner, staring at Grandma. "Aiden, child, you look like you’ve been sitting at a wake. Go on and have yourself a cup of coffee. We’ll be just fine here. I am okay now."
Aiden opened his mouth to protest, but one look from Grandma made him think better of it. He nodded and left the room, without turning his head to look at her. Serena frowned as she watched him leave. What was with him? Why wouldn’t he even spare her a look? Her question was answered in the next minute when the door closed behind him and grandma asked," Tell me, Serena. Who hit my Aiden?"
Serena’s eyes widened as she looked at the older woman, wondering how she knew this. She’d barely woken up..." He’s been hiding there in that corner, thinking I won’t notice the bruise on his cheek. I am old, not blind. So, what happened to him?"
Serena looked down at her hands, which were being clasped by grandma’s frail thin fingers and sighed," I think Aiden should be able to better answer that question, Grandma."
"Nonsense, Serena," Grandma said firmly. "Aiden’s stubborn as a mule. He won’t tell me a thing if he thinks it’ll upset me. But you—" she paused, giving Serena a knowing look, "you care enough to tell me the truth. And I want to hear it from you."
Before Serena could respond, Aunt Vera entered the room with a flask in hand. "I think I can answer that question better, Mistress," she said, her voice steady and calm. Then, with a gentle wave of her hand, she addressed Serena. "Young mistress, you should see to the young master. I doubt he even reached for that coffee. Take him home. I think you’re the only person he’ll listen to."
Serena turned to look at the old woman who nodded in agreement and then quickly escaped. She did not want to be the one to tell Grandma about all the unpleasant things and make her worry. Better to let Aunt Vera handle that.
Aunt Vera, an expert at handling the old woman, quickly began, before you worry yourself over things, let me just tell you some explosive news. Your granddaughter in law is amazing."
Mabel Hawk, expecting Vera to start cursing her useless family members was shocked to hear this and listened wide eyed as the maid recounted the entire incidence from the family arriving to attacking Aiden to Serena defending him.
Even though, she was hurt over the behaviour of her family, Mabel could not help but sigh in contentment," Vera. My Aiden really does have a good eye. He found a treasure in Serena."
Aunt Vera nodded," That he did. And I think they would have rekindle their loving relationship soon, Madam. Then you can stop worrying about him so much.
Mabel sighed as she breathed in deeply. This stroke really had scared her. Not for herself. But for her grandson. There was only one person who’s debt she had yet to repay in this world. And that was her Aiden. If she could ensure that he was not lonely when she passed away, then she would be satisfied. But if something happened to her before then, she knew she would never be at peace.
Listenign to the taunts and accusations that Aiden had to endure, just because she had been delaying in handing over what belonged to him, she felt a surge of anger! How dare they? Her own children were so shameless! Did they really think that they would be able to come to power once she died. Was she someone so foolish that she would not have an iron clad will in place.
But now that the Lord of Death had given her another lease of life, she knew what she needed to do next.
"Vera. Listen to me. We need to do something...I want this done quietly, but effectively. No one is to know until it’s too late for them to interfere. Especially not my children.""
Aunt Vera listened to Mabel’s plan and nodded in agreement. It was a good plan indeed.
"I’ll make the necessary arrangements immediately. This will send a clear message to those who think they can take advantage of the situation. By the time they realize what’s happening, it will be too late for them to do anything about it."
