Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 22: Searching
Chapter 22: Searching
Owen was nervous as he waited for the information he had asked for. Could it really be true that Serena had lost her memory as those people at the hospital claimed? Soon, he would have confirmation. And when he did, he would know how to approach this new situation.
He’d been so happy to hear that his Serena had woken up. But then, he’d heard what his parents had done and came racing here, hoping that he would be able to explain everything to her, only to find out she’d already left the hospital. So, he’d begged his parents to tell him whom they’d sold her to. But they were too fearful of the man to speak his name. Thankfully, he’d been able to bribe a nurse.
He cracked his knuckles in tension as he watited. Aiden Hawk...Of all the people, it just had to be such a powerful man. He couldn’t help but wonder if he and Serena were just not fated.
After all, every time they should have come close, it seemed like the universe threw new obstacles in their path, pulling them apart just when they should have been together."No, I just need to find her. Once I find her, she will come back to me," He muttered to himself.
Just then, he watched the maid scurrying out of the house and hurriedly waved at her from behind the tree. ’What did you learn?"
The woman hesitated, her eyes darting around nervously before shaking her head. Owen, of course understood what she meant, she refused to reveal anything until she had been paid.
Owen’s expression darkened as he grimaced, but he quickly reached into his pocket and pushed a small envelope into her trembling hand. "Tell me now."
"No one knows anything about memory loss," the maid finally whispered, her voice barely above a breath. "But there has been speculation that something is not right between the couple. They’re sleeping in separate rooms."
"They’re sleeping in separate rooms?" Owen repeated, a surge of unexpected relief flooding through him as if a heavy weight had just been lifted off his chest. So, even if she did not remember him, there was still a chance she could belong to him.
"Can you arrange a meeting? Inform me when she leaves the house or get a message to her. Bring her to me?"
The maid shook her head hurriedly, her fear evident in her wide eyes. "No! Giving you this much information is already risky. If someone discovers this, I won’t have a job."
"I’ll give you double the money," Owen countered desperately. "Find a way so that I can approach her or take my message."
The maid hesitated before shaking her head,"I cannot do that. She is not here."
"What do you mean she is not here?" Owen asked frustratedly.
"The boss and his wife have gone on a honeymoon," the maid explained, her voice trembling. "No one knows when they will return."
Owen’s blood ran cold. A honeymoon? His temper flared then, as he kicked the ground under him. Honeymoon. Serena had gone on a honeymoon with some other man. He hated the thought of her being touched by another man. No no. He would have to find out where they’ve gone and find them. Reveal everything to Serena before it was too late.
His mind raced with wild possibilities, fear gnawing at him. Serena was his. She had to be. And no matter what, he would bring her back to him. Even if she’d been with another man, he was sure she would remember her love for him when they met again. But, first he’d have to find her.
The maid could already see his train of thought and with greed in her eyes, she offered," I know where they’ve gone. Do you want to chase after them? Or do you want to wait until they return? By then, it might be too late though. The old lady of the house said that she wants to be a great grandma soon."
Owen looked at her with anger then. No. No! He could not afford to wait. " Tell me."
"But it will cost you...", the maid muttered with a sly smile.
Owen’s eyes narrowed, his anger barely contained as he fished out more money and pushed it into her hand. "Tell me where they are. Now."
"They’ve gone to the Sancity Town. It’s a small beach town for tourists..."
"I know where Sancity Town is!" Owen snapped as he turned on his heel, already planning to use the train to get there even as numerous questions occurred to him.
Why had they gone to Sancity Town? Out of all the places they could have chosen, why there?
His mind raced, the anger momentarily giving way to confusion and a flicker of hope. Sancity Town wasn’t just any small beach town. It was the place where he’d taken her to when they’d eloped. The town where he grew up. The place where they had planned to spend their life and make their home.
Could she have gone there because she remembered him? Was there a chance she was trying to find him despite everything his parents had done? She knew him and wouldn’t blame him for the fault of others right?
If she had gone to Sancity Town looking for him, then he would find her. Even if she was only looking for him for answers. He would make her remember everything, every moment they had shared, every promise they had made to each other. And then, when she divorced that man, they would be together finally.
But then, his steps paused," What if she’d gone there to apologize to him? To tell him that she was going to live with her new husband from now onwards. That she wouldn’t be able to forgive him his sins.
He folded his hands and quickly started to walk again. "Please," he prayed silently, "let her remember. Let there be something left of us."
