Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband

Chapter 212: What Are You Doing Here?

"Get up. You have visitors," the officer said, nudging the prisoner lying on the hard cot. The old man groaned, his voice cold and raspy as he replied, "I don’t want to see anyone."

"You don’t have a choice. Move it," the officer snapped, his tone firm. "Miss Dawn doesn’t have all day."

At the mention of the name, Corrick froze, his hand mid-air as he scratched his unkempt beard. Slowly, he turned his head to look at the officer. "What did you say? Who’s here?" His voice, though steady, carried a hint of disbelief.

"Miss Dawn," the officer repeated impatiently. "Serena Dawn. She’s here to see you."

Corrick’s eyes gleamed with a spark of curiosity and something darker. A slow, cunning smile spread across his face as he rose to his feet, his stiff joints protesting with every movement. "Serena Dawn," he muttered to himself, the name rolling off his tongue like a secret he’d been keeping for years. "So, she finally decided to show up."

He adjusted his wrinkled clothes, brushing off the invisible dust as he straightened his back. His movements were deliberate, almost ceremonial, as if he were preparing for a grand performance. "I knew she’d come one day," he said under his breath, his smile widening. "I just didn’t think it would be this soon."

He glanced at the officer, his eyes sharp despite the wear of age. "Let’s see what she wants," he said, his tone laced with mock amusement. "Probably here to gloat, thinking she’s won."

As he followed the officer out of the cell, a quiet chuckle escaped his lips. She thought she’d succeeded, didn’t she? Poor girl. She didn’t know the half of it.

And he intended to enjoy every second of her ignorance. She believes that he is the one responsible for everything and maybe he is. But he is not the master mind behind the entire scene, it is Matthew. That rascal.

Corrick shook his head. He’d thought that he had Matthew under his control. That the boy had finally grown up and was willing to do things his way instead of going on about how he wanted to live away from everyone. But that little piece of shi* had turned around and instead of being thankful for his support had instead pi**ed on him!

Of course, he would not go after Matthew for now. He’d take his time to come out of this place and handle Matthew and this Serena.

Corrick walked into the visitation room with the confidence of a man who believed he still held the upper hand, despite his prison garb and the sterile surroundings. He smiled when he saw Serena sitting across the table, her posture straight, her expression cold as she stared at him.

"Miss Dawn," Corrick greeted smoothly, as though this were a business meeting in his office rather than in a prison facility. He settled into the chair opposite her, his hands resting casually on the table. "To what do I owe the honor,?"

Serena didn’t respond to his greeting. Instead, she leaned forward, staring at him. "Why did Matthew kill my parents and grandmother?"

Corrick’s smile froze mid-smirk. For a split second, the mask slipped, revealing a flicker of surprise. How did she know so quickly? He quickly pushed the thought aside and composed himself, his expression hardening into something more guarded. He leaned back in his chair, letting out a short, mocking chuckle.

"Matthew?" he drawled, feigning disbelief. "Kill? My dear Miss Serena, Matthew is about as threatening as a wet kitten. Spineless, really. I doubt he could even kill an ant, let alone—" He gestured vaguely. "People in his own family."

"Don’t play games with me, Corrick," she snapped. "I know the truth. The question is, how much of it do you know? Did you know Matthew was the one who ruined you? Or are you still under the illusion that he’s your loyal little puppet?"

"I know nothing of what you speak, Miss Dawn," he said dismissively. "And even if I did, do you really think I would betray him to help you? Do I look that generous to you? Hmm. I don’t care what Matthew did to me. But I have no reason to help you. Are you here to offer a deal to help me out of this mess? Then I might consider helping you. But really, Matthew did nothing. And I doubt you ’know’ what he did because if you had any proof, you would be after him instead of here, questioning me..."

Serena smiled then. "Your expression already betrayed you and revealed the truth. As for evidence, I will find it from wherever you’ve hidden it. Matthew was desperate that you should be in prison before he could plan his escape. So, you definitely have the evidence I need. If I’m not mistaken, there is only one person you trust implicitly in this world. And that person is in a mental facility since you’re here. I’m sure, she would be able to help me with your secrets. And this would be prefect...Thank you."

Corrick slammed his hand on the table with a loud bang, his face contorted with rage. "You think you can just walk in here and talk to me like that?" he bellowed, his voice echoing in the small room. In one swift motion, he tried to leap over the table, his fists swinging toward Serena.

But she was faster. Serena had already sprung to her feet, moving swiftly to put distance between them. Her sharp, calculating gaze stayed locked on him as he struggled against the weight of his own anger and failing strength.

"Stay away from Nvidia!" Corrick roared, his voice cracking with fury as he stalked toward her. The officers stationed nearby burst into the room, rushing to restrain him. He twisted against their grip, his face red with the effort. "You hear me? Stay away from my sister!"

Serena stood firm, her expression cool, unbothered by his outburst.

As the officers tightened their hold on him, pulling him back toward the chair, she took a step closer, her voice dropping to a low, dangerous tone. "If you want me to stay away from Nvidia," she said, her words deliberate and cutting, "then give me evidence on Matthew."
