Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 211: Relief
Chapter 211: Relief
Matthew Dawn leaned back in his seat, letting out a long breath of relief as he closed his eyes. Finally, he was free. Free from the clutches of expectations that had weighed him down for so long, free from the constant tug-of-war between his desires and the demands of all the others be it his ever nagging wife, his needy mother, his vengeful uncle, threatening stepmother and his spoilt daughters! They’d all become the bane of his existence!
For the first time in what felt like an eternity, there was no one to answer to, no schemes to execute, no masks to wear and no mind games to play. He could finally disappear into the quiet life he had dreamed of, unbothered and untouchable. Soon, his flight would be ready to board, and the moment he left this country, Matthew Dawn would disappear forever.
The money was his now—enough to sustain him several times over. Uncle Corrick, that scheming, self-righteous fool, was dealt with, and the thorny entanglement of family obligations was no longer a problem. His path was clear, and the solitude he craved was finally within reach. It felt surreal, almost disorienting, to have achieved what he had wanted for nearly half his life. For years, it had been a goal dangling just out of reach, always obstructed by circumstances, people, or sheer bad luck. But now, all those obstacles were behind him.
If only he’d been able to get rid of Edwina sooner. The thought struck him without guilt, only a cold practicality. Her iron grip on the family fortune had kept him shackled, waiting, scheming, and plotting far longer than he thought he could bear. Now, with her gone, he finally had the freedom—and the funds—to carve out the life he had always envisioned.
A billionaire at almost fifty was not what he had hoped for in his ambitious younger days. He had pictured himself achieving this milestone much earlier but time had slipped away from him. Now that he’d been freed, he was sure he still had years ahead of him to nejoy all that time and money.
While he was lost in thought, a woman approached him,"Mr Dawn. Your flight’s boarding is about to begin."
He nodded his thanks to the woman, and rose to his feet as he straightened his jacket and glanced around one last time around the VIP lounge. Just a few more minutes. Then he would be out of reach—out of the grasp of everyone who had meddled, controlled, or blackmailed him over the years. Most of all, he would finally escape Uncle Corrick, the man who had held him hostage with threats for far too long.
It was strange to think back on how it all began. Yes, he had been the one to plan Eric’s kidnapping. The boy was supposed to be his way to force Edwina to cooperate and give him the money he deserved. After all, she loved her son and her grandson even though they were estranged. Of course she would have agreed in a minute to give him what he wanted. It had been a solid plan—or so he thought at the time. But before he could take the next step, everything had gone wrong.
Who would have thought that his own uncle would attack him out of nowhere and snatch Eric away? The sheer shock of that moment still lingered even today. Corrick had turned it all against him, using the incident to keep a tight grip on his life. For years, Corrick held that secret over his head, threatening to reveal everything if Matthew dared to step out of line and not give in to his demands.
With that one single incident, Corrick had forced him to marry Lydia and become almost a servant to him. Godfather! What a joke. The man was not worthy of any such lofty titles.
But now, all of that was in the past. Matthew’s lips twitched into a small, satisfied smile as he walked toward the exit. He had finally outsmarted Corrick and taken him down. It had taken time, patience, and careful planning and a lot of taunts for being a coward, but he had managed to get rid of him for good. The best part? He had used Edward’s own daughter to do it.
She had been so determined to find the truth, so desperate to avenge her father and grandmother, that it had been easy to point her in the wrong direction. A few quiet suggestions, a little nudge here and there, and she was convinced that Corrick was behind everything while he, was nothing but a weakling. The attacks on her, the murders- it was all his doing. But no one would know that now. Because Serena’s anger would do the rest of the damage to Corrick. She would make sure that Corrick never recover.
Of course, no one would believe Uncle Corrick even if he tried to tell the truth. He could scream it from the rooftops, but it wouldn’t matter. No one would believe that he wasn’t the one responsible for the murders. No one would believe that it was actually Matthew—the so-called weak and harmless Matthew—who had planned everything and framed Corrick for it.
To everyone who knew him, Matthew Dawn was nothing more than a quiet man, someone who wouldn’t dare take risks, let alone do anything dangerous. They saw him as a coward, a man content to stay in the shadows while others took the lead. They believed he lacked the backbone to even stand up for himself, much less orchestrate something as dark and calculated as murder.
And that was exactly what Matthew wanted them to think. It was the perfect cover. No one suspected him because no one thought he was capable. Corrick, on the other hand, was a perfect scapegoat.
He glanced up at the sky as he stepped towards the large airplane, a faint smile still lingering on his lips. Soon, even the noise of the city around him would be behind him. Solitude was waiting, and this time, no one would stop him. He was finally free.
