Chapter 206: The End... Not Really

"What is this?" Serena asked, her voice steady as she took the file from his hand. Yet, she made no move to open it, her gaze fixed on her uncle seated confidently across from her. He looked a bit different somehow. More... laidback?

"You asked me to take a few days to think things through," he began, "You promised that if I stood by your side, you would help me resolve all my problems, no matter how deep they run. I’ve spent those days thinking, weighing my options, and I’ve come to a decision."

He gestured toward the file she held. "That document outlines everything I’ll need in exchange for my cooperation. I’ve already initiated divorce proceedings with Lydia, placing them under urgent review. I believe now is the best time to act decisively—while the iron is hot and before any more obstacles arise."

He leaned forward slightly, "As part of the agreement, I will provide you with every piece of evidence I have against my uncle. Every document, every transaction, every secret he’s hidden—I’ll lay it all out for you. As a token of my trust, I’ve put in some papers in this file. They are not related to Nvidia but do highlight his corruption in Vancity, which should be enough for you to make him stumble. However, before we proceed further, let me be perfectly clear: I’m not interested in what you’re offering me in return. Its too little."

Her brows furrowed slightly as he continued, "I don’t want the shares. I don’t want to be embroiled in this endless power struggle, for the next God knows how many years, that seems to consume everyone in its path. Instead, I want liquidity—cash. Liquidate the shares, sell off any assets tied to them, and give me my portion. The amount I require is detailed in that contract. Along with this, I expect safe passage out of the country, with your guarantee of protection from any retaliation."

He paused, letting the gravity of his request settle before adding, "Lastly, I need you to help me clear all my debts. Every last one. This isn’t negotiable. With these conditions met, I’ll deliver everything you need and walk away from this mess for good."

Serena stared at him, the file heavy in her hands as she finally opened it and riased her eyebrows. Wow. That was quite a big amount that he needed her to pay the debtors. In fact, paying this off would be giving him doublt the portion of his inheritance. Without saying a word, Serena then turned the pages and read through the evidence, feeling the first flicker of excitement in a while. This was quite a detailed report.

Looking up, she then smiled at him,"I agree with your conditions. But, remember, the only way you would get all this if you are able to give me information about my biological brother. That is a deal breaker."

Matthew nodded and stood up," Agreed. You start making the arrangements for what I want and I will make arrangements to get for you what you want."

Serena nodded," Its a deal."

"She wants to know where her biological brother is. You were right—her focus is entirely on that," Matthew reported, his gaze briefly shifting to his mother. She was seated nearby, absorbed in a quiet game, her hands manipulating a few action figures as though lost in another world.

Corrick’s lips curved into a pleased smile at the news. "That’s excellent. It’s exactly what we anticipated. Soon, we’ll make our next move, and everything will fall into place as planned. You’ve done well, Matthew. You can leave now."

But Matthew didn’t move. He stood there, rooted to the spot, his expression inscrutable as his eyes lingered on his mother’s playful actions.

Corrick tilted his head, studying the boy for a moment before breaking the silence. "What is it? Do you want to spend some time with Nvidia? She’s been asking to play with you. Go ahead, if that’s what’s on your mind."

Matthew shook his head, his movements deliberate, and his voice came out firmer this time. "No, Uncle Corrick. That’s not it."

Corrick frowned slightly but gestured for him to speak. "Then what is it? Speak your mind."

Matthew hesitated, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Finally, he met Corrick’s eyes, his voice quieter now but layered with determination. "I’ve been meaning to ask you something—something I’ve asked you before, but your answer never felt right. I couldn’t shake the feeling that you weren’t telling me the whole truth."

Corrick raised an eyebrow, his smile fading as a faint tension crept into his posture. "What are you talking about, Matthew?"

Taking a deep breath, Matthew finally voiced the question that had been eating at him. "It’s about Edward’s son—about what happened to him. I need to know, Uncle Corrick. Did you really have nothing to do with his disappearance? Did you play no part in it at all?"

Corrick’s expression remained carefully neutral, but the subtle shift in his demeanor wasn’t lost on Matthew. Corrick finally sighed and shook his head," It doesn’t matter, Matthew. Why are you interested now?"

"It matters to me, Uncle. Did you really involve the small child? And if you did, then where is he? Is he dead?"

Corrick glanced at Matthew once again and sighed," You always were a softy, Matthew. It is why I never did tell you what happened. But since you are so curious, I will let you know. Edward’s son...is alive."

Matthew stilled, his hands clenching under the table as he tried to suppress the excitement. "Where is he then? Do you know?"

Corrick’s smile widened. "Have you ever seen me make a loss-making deal? Of course I know where he is. I needed to know as he had to be used as a pawn."

"Uncle, where is he then? Why did you not use him until now?"

Corrick grinned. "Because, you see, I found a way to double the profits that he could give us. Don’t ask too many questions. Just know that, once Serena’s matter is settled... we will be going to Edward’s son to collect some debts..."
