Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 167: Shocker

Chapter 167: Shocker

This time, Serena felt a powerful temptation to gaze at her reflection in the mirror. She couldn’t shake the feeling that she would look like a complete joke. Whatever she had envisioned for this moment, it was far from the reality before her! So, Matthew and Daniel were Edwina’s stepchildren—an unexpected twist that explained so many things. It clarified the cryptic message about Edwina’s blood not being worthy and all that.

Her eyes narrowed as she cast a pointed glance at Corrick, who sat there with an air of smug expectation, as if he believed she would feel guilty and immediately concede the company to his nephews or rather Godsons..

She shrugged, her shoulders lifting in a gesture of indifference. Unfortunately, her moral compass was just as skewed as Edwina’s had been. Because the truth was, she was determined to find her father’s murderer and uncover the identity of the old woman’s killer. No one should have to die simply because they were deemed a mistress. There was also the fact that someone was trying to kill her.

And so, she answered the old man," Even if I do take over this place, it is only for a little amount of time. So, what is the worry about? Even if the main beneficiary is not worried."

Corrick slammed his hand down on the table, the loud bang breaking the tense silence. "What did you mean it was a little amount of time?" he exclaimed in frustration. "According to my brother-in-law’s will, Edwina was supposed to be nothing more than a temporary caretaker! He promised my sister that he would not leave her hard work in the hands of his mistress! And what happened instead? For the last forty years, the entire estate had been under your grandmother’s control! Then, instead of handing it over to the rightful heirs, that thief of a woman had the audacity to change her will and pass the reins to you!"

Serena met his glare with a calm expression and shrugged her shoulders slightly. "Look, the past and all those old grudges have nothing to do with me. I am a fair person, Mr. Corrick. If it can be proven that your nephews and their family has done no harm to me or my people, I will gladly hand this place over to them. But if I even caught a hint of anything that suggested they might be involved in wrongdoing, they could forget about receiving a single penny from this estate. You understand that, of course, don’t you?"

In a fit of anger, Corrick stood up, his chest heaving as he pointed a finger accusingly at her. "This is the problem with your lower bloodlines! You can never change where you come from! The child of a thief will always be a thief! I don’t know who is after you, but I hope they get you and you die soon! As for my nephews, I couldn’t protect them from Edwina but I can sure as hell protect them from you!"

Serena watched the old man march out in anger and smiled softly. Well, he had solved a big mystery for her so it was a good thing that he’d come. As for his anger, who cared? She’d spoken the truth. Even when she’d never known about this, she had never coveted Nvidia. The biggest reason she was holding on was to flush out the person who was trying to kill her. And right now, the person with the biggest motive seemed to be- Corrick.

She sighed. While she hated to make the next call, she knew she had to call him and let him know.

Sidney glanced down at his phone, a smile spreading across his face when he saw the number flashing on the screen. She was calling him. But as he beamed at the screen, the woman standing in front of him tensed, her body stiffening with disapproval. "Sid."

He looked up at Ava, irritation flickering across his features. "What?"

Ava turned her gaze away for a moment, struggling to compose herself so she wouldn’t break down under the weight of his indifference. "How do I look?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "Don’t you think this outfit is perfect for our engagement?"

Without sparing her even a cursory glance, he glanced back at his phone, dismissively responding, "Good enough. I’ll be back." and stood up to leave.

He had barely stepped outside the large boutique when he answered the call, anxious about missing the opportunity. "Rena. What is it?" he said, his voice a mix of eagerness and concern.

"I just had a visitor—Corrick," Rena replied.

Sidney frowned, his brow furrowed in concern as his hands clenched. "Corrick? Why did he come to see you? Are you alright? Did he threaten you?"

"He had some interesting revelations to make, of course," Rena said.

"Really? He came to talk? What did he tell you? No, wait. I’ll be there in your office in about thirty minutes. You can tell me then."

With that, Sidney was about to walk away when Ava’s voice stopped him," Sid? Where are you going? You have to try your suit."

"Just ask them to send it over. I’ll try it later. Even if it doesn’t fit well, I have hundreds of other suits." With that, he walked away, leaving her feeling stunned.

She clenched her hands as the tears this time fell from her eyes! She knew exactly who he was racing to! That woman had purposely done this! Why did she have to keep hoarding her fiance all the time! And why had Sidney proposed to her if all he wanted to do was protect Serena? Was he intent on drving her to the edge?

Wiping the tears from her eyes, she breathed in deeply and vowed to herself. She would definitely teach her a lesson this time that would make her remember to not challenge her for Sidney! She huffed and marched away, leaving her own dress and the suit behind her. The only way this engagement would happen now was if Sidney pledged to stay away Serena.
