Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 164: Mr Dawn
Chapter 164: Mr Dawn
"This is Vancity’s governor, Mr. Oswald Corrick."
"Pleased to meet you, Mr. Hawk." The old man smiled and extended his hand to Aiden, who looked down at it for a moment, weighing the gesture. After a brief hesitation, he accepted the handshake, but then he directly challenged Mr. Dawn. "Mr. Dawn, I believe you had an interesting proposal regarding Sidney Price. But I have to ask—why do we even need politicians involved in this matter?" Aiden muttered, shooting a quick glance at Mr. Corrick as if to say not to take it personally.
Matthew Dawn chuckled softly at Aiden’s boldness and shook his head slightly. "Because this project impacts not just Mr. Corrick’s town, but also the interests of Nvidia Industries. Instead of going about the entire case in a convoluted and indirect manner, I thought it would be best to discuss it openly and directly. You know, to foster trust among us."
Aiden nodded thoughtfully, his expression serious. "Trust is indeed a critical component in any business relationship. Which is precisely why, before we delve into any discussion, I need to ask you this, Mr. Dawn. Why is there such an urgent need to eliminate Sidney Price? Price Industries has been a reliable partner for years. Moreover, if I’m not mistaken, Sidney is also engaged to your daughter. So, before we even entertain the idea of working together, I need you to provide me with a compelling reason to proceed. And honest. I don’t like deception."
Matthew Dawn leaned back slightly, as he looked at Aiden, wondering how much to reveal. Finally, he sighed and smiled, "Well, keeping our options open is always a wise strategy in business. It allows us to adapt and respond to changes as they arise," he began, attempting to navigate the conversation.
Aiden regarded the man coolly, his expression unyielding. "Cut the theatrics, Mr. Dawn. If I wanted stories, I would have sought out a storyteller, not you. I need you to come out with the truth. I don’t do business based on half truths."
The tension in the room rocketed as the two men realized that Aiden Hawk was not as easy to handle as they had expected. Exchanging a glance, Matthew received a nod from Corrick and so continued,"Alright, Mr Hawk. Here’s the truth: we’ve found Sidney’s loyalties to be divided. Ever since I took over, he’s been trying to undermine my authority for his own personal benefit. It’s become apparent that he’s manipulating my daughter and my niece to turn against me for his own gain."
"Yes, the Price Industries have been a faithdful partner to us all this time but so has Nvidia. And that partnership was maintained in the times of Edwina Dawn and Sidney’s father. Now, it is clear both the companies have different vision for the future so it is better to look for ways to part in a way so that we do not suffer a loss."
"So you intend to use my hand to get rid of Sidney?" he asked, his tone not indicating what he was thinking, if he was pleased with the idea or offended by it.
Matthew and Corrick exchanged another look, then Matthew continued, "In this world, enemies of enemies are friends. If we can align our interests, we might just have the leverage we need to handle Sidney effectively."
Aiden leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms as he regarded Matthew with a steely gaze. "I see. So, you want to use me as a pawn in your little game. But I need to know—what’s in it for me? Once Sidney is dealt with, you’ll have a way to manage your niece and the threat she poses. With Sidney out of the picture, what do I stand to gain from this arrangement?"
Matthew Dawn leaned forward, his expression earnest. "This is where Mr. Corrick comes into play. Nvidia is on the verge of launching a prestigious project in Vancity. As you are well aware, this city is one of the biggest tourist hubs in the entire country. With such a significant project designed to draw in more visitors, I believe it would be of great interest to you. I’m sure you’ve heard about the pop-up market that Vancity is famous for—it’s been a hot topic in the industry."
He paused, gauging Aiden’s reaction before continuing. "This project has the potential to not only elevate your business prospects but also expand your influence in the region. Imagine being at the forefront of a venture that attracts tourists from all over the country, positioning yourself as a key player in this revitalization. That’s a powerful card to hold."
"I don’t need borrowed power, Mr Dawn. Give me something more substantial."
Matthew frowned and was about to question but this time, it was Oswald who spoke up,"What do you want, Mr Hawk. You are a direct shooter and yet, until now, you have not yet made your intentions clear."
Aiden smiled coldly, his gaze unwavering as he addressed Governor Corrick. "You are indeed a clever man, Governor. As you rightly mentioned, enemies of enemies can often become friends. However, for that friendship to flourish, it must be built on something substantial, something genuine. What you are presenting in terms of the project strikes me as nothing more than a cleverly disguised bribe—one that I could easily obtain through more legitimate channels."
He leaned forward slightly, emphasizing his point. "In fact, should it come to light that we secured this project through dubious means, the fallout would be far worse than the loss of this single opportunity. It would tarnish our reputations and jeopardize everything we’ve worked for."
Aiden’s voice grew firmer, the underlying tension palpable. "Therefore, your proposal exposes me to significant risk while offering only tentative, uncertain benefits in return. So here’s what I propose: I am willing to give you what you desire, but in exchange, you must provide me with something that will truly satisfy my concerns."
The governor raised an eyebrow, intrigued yet cautious. "And what, exactly, do you want in return?"
Aiden’s expression remained composed, but his eyes glinted with determination. "What I seek is assurance. However, the only form of assurance that will truly satisfy my apprehensions is this: I want a small portion of Nvidia Industries. Something that will assure me that you will not kick me out the moment Sidney is out of your way."
