Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 160: Aiden’s Anger

Chapter 160: Aiden’s Anger

"You do know that you don’t have laser eyes, right? Glaring at him won’t put holes in his head."

Aiden shot Samantha a withering glance before deliberately turning his back on Serena, who stood close to the man, discussing something he’d rather not know about. The sight twisted in his gut, and he found himself grinding his teeth in irritation.

"Seriously, Aiden," Samantha said, amusement dancing in her eyes. "You’ve fallen for her hook, line, and sinker."

Aiden glared at her, his jaw tightening. "That’s crap. You know that."

She snorted, shaking her head. "Oh, I don’t think so. You’re practically oozing it. The way you look at her? It’s written all over your face."

"Look, it’s not like that," Aiden replied, his voice low but defensive. The jealousy simmered beneath his skin, each glance toward Serena amplifying it. Her laughter rang out like music, wrapping around the man beside her as if they shared a private joke, one that he wasn’t part of.

"Right," Samantha countered, crossing her arms with a smirk. "So, you’re just going to stand there and watch her with him? Just like that? When you told me you’d gotten yourself a wife, I figured it was some sort of contract marriage to appease your grandmother. But I don’t think so. It seems you really did go for a love match."

Aiden rolled his eyes inwardly. If he told Samantha that the first time he’d met Serena was long after their marriage, she’d probably think he was crazy. Crazy, yes—but that was how he’d felt back then.

"Look, she’s heading to the dance floor with him, Aiden. What are you going to do?" Samantha pressed, her tone a mix of concern and mischief.

"For one, I don’t need you giving me a live commentary on the happenings at this party, Sam. And for another, why exactly are you insisting on hanging here instead of returning to your dear husband? He’s waiting for you in your room, isn’t he?"

"Huh? What husband?" she shot back with an exaggerated eyeroll, threading her arms through his and batting her eyelashes. "I am your side chick, remember? We should dance, shouldn’t we?"

Before he could protest, Aiden found himself being pulled toward the dance floor, resigned to follow her lead. He sighed, shaking his head as she insisted on dancing with him. Samantha was nothing if not persistent. Ever since she had married his best friend, she’d taken it upon herself to look after him, like an older sister who never quite let go. She pestered him whenever she felt like it, setting him up on all sorts of weird dates in the name of matchmaking.

In the past, he’d even considered getting Samantha to help him find someone for a contract marriage, but her nosiness always put him off. She would definitely have tried to find someone who would cling to him. Now, as she twirled him around the dance floor, her big smile felt both familiar and oddly penetrating. He did not want to look at her.

"Samantha, I know what you’re thinking," Aiden said, a frown creasing his brow. "You might be able to patch things up, but this isn’t some lover’s quarrel. It’s a choice. Serena had two paths to take to reach her goals, and she’s already chosen Sidney."

"Hmmm. I can see that," she replied, tilting her head as if considering his words. "And that’s why you’ve decided to take over her company, since she’s doing all this for that, right?"

"Of course. I don’t appreciate anyone throwing me over," Aiden muttered, his gaze scanning the crowd.

He failed to notice that the smile on Samantha’s face had evaporated, replaced by a look of concern. Aiden didn’t like the idea of being discarded, especially not for someone like Sidney. It felt too much like a repeat of his mother’s betrayal, and that thought gnawed at him. Samantha was one of the few people who knew the truth though Aiden had never shared it with her.

Like Aiden, Samantha would have blamed anyone who put that miserable look on his face. It was why she had not said anything when he pretended she was his mistress. But she’d seen the flash of genuine feelings on Serena’s face when she stared at him. The hurt that he already had someone. And also, from one woman to another, she just knew that Serena was not as comfortable with Sidney as she was pretending to be.. That was why she held back now. Could it be that Aiden was mistaken? Perhaps Serena had not truly chosen Sidney after all.

The chances of that were slim, she knew. But she needed to observe for herself. She needed to see Aiden and Serena together, to witness their dynamic firsthand before drawing any conclusions.

As they swayed together, Samantha felt a surge of determination.

Timing her movements, Samantha spun away from Aiden, purposefully and almost stumbled into the couple on the edge of the dance floor... " Miss Serena! You look like you’re having such a good time! How about we shake things up a bit?"

Serena turned she caught sight of Samantha and her already stiff smile went stiffer if possible. "Hey! We were just—"

"Great! Come dance with us!" Samantha interrupted, grabbing Serena’s hand and pulling her away from Sidney. "Aiden needs a partner, and I think you two would be perfect together."

Before the other three people could get a word out, Samantha was already pulling Sidney away from Serena and Aiden, leaving the two standing in front of each other, staring awkwardly.

Serena looked away from his gaze and towards the exit,"I’ll just wait..." However, instead of letting her walk away, Aiden quickly slipped an arm around her and pulled her close to him, "Let’s dance. If you walk off the dance floor now, everyone might say that I snubbed you. I don’t want my name linked to you anymore than needed."

Serena stiffened at the words even as she place a hand on his shoulder, letting him pull her closer.
