Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 159: Shocked

Chapter 159: Shocked

"Aiden Hawk, the visionary behind the acquisition that’s taken the business world by storm since yesterday. One could almost say that tonight he is the VIP. He’s single handedly brought together one of the oldest media companies and merged it with his cutting edge tech company! It is definitely going to change the look of the entire media. Miss Serena, you should, in fact try and get into his good books. He is one of the best in the industry!"

Serena gave a strained smile while Aiden turned to the investor and smiled," You flatter me, Mr Ji. It was a good project. But Miss Serena definitely does not need my guidance."

The man felt odd for a moment at Aiden Hawk’s attitude but then his expression shifted to curiosity as he took in the woman lingering just behind Aiden. She was elegant, poised, with a quiet, confident smile that spoke of familiarity with the kind of rooms she stood in. She was not one of those women who would cling to her man for attention.

Mr. Ji, brows raised, turned to Aiden with an amused gleam. "I did hear some news recently, Mr. Hawk," he began with a wry smile. "Is this your lovely wife, perhaps?"

Aiden shook his head, an easy, practiced smile in place as his gaze fell on Serena for a moment before moving back. "Ah, no. My wife doesn’t particularly enjoy these events—she’s much happier at home." Then, with a subtle pull, he brought the woman closer, his arm resting casually around her waist. "This is Samantha. We’ve known each other since we were kids. She’s been my partner through thick and thin."

The slight emphasis on the word "partner" carried a faint implication, and Serena felt a chill sweep over her. The message was clear, though unstated. He didn’t care what anyone thought; he was simply daring them to question it. She looked at Samantha, observing the comfortable way she fit into Aiden’s space, the way her hand settled naturally on his arm, and it stirred something in her. The need to grab his hand and break it so that he would not place it there again was quite feral. She wondered how he would feel to have a broken hand...

Director Ji, however was not the least bit bothered that Aiden had almost called Samantha his mistress. He simply shrugged and nodded," Ah... youth. Always creating a stir...."

Aiden returned the smile with one of his own, tipping his glass in acknowledgment before nodding politely to Investor Ji, Serena and Sidney. "Excuse me for a moment," he murmured, as someone called him over to the podium while Mr. Ji, left them to their devices as well.

"Rena, we need to move about the room," Sidney said, interrupting her thoughts. But Serena’s gaze remained fixed on the man who was now walking away, exuding that familiar air of indifference. The sight left her with a gnawing ache that she refused to acknowledge.

Irritated, she turned sharply toward Sidney. "You knew Aiden would be here, didn’t you?" Her voice was laced with accusation. "That’s why you insisted on coming with me tonight."

Sidney’s mouth tightened, his jaw visibly clenching at her tone. "Yes, I knew," he admitted, though his eyes held a steely edge. "But let’s not pretend that my presence was contingent on his. I was coming with you either way, Rena. And if you need reminding, you’re already divorced. He’s already moved on. So perhaps it’s a good thing you didn’t come alone tonight."

Her patience wore thin, and she leaned in closer, her voice dropping to a warning tone. "Actually, we are not yet divorced. I don’t like these little games you play, Sidney. And this is my last warning. If you ever try to use me to make Aiden jealous or manipulate the situation to your advantage again, I won’t be responsible for the consequences."

Sidney met her gaze with a dark glint in his eyes, a smug smile barely contained. "And if you keep threatening me, Rena, this partnership of ours is going to be... very difficult."

"Then don’t give me reasons to threaten you," she shot back, not backing down. "Now, where’s this person that you told me about? The one who might be the master mind behind everything."

A slow smile crept across Sidney’s face. "That’s the interesting part, Rena. You’ve been so caught up watching Aiden that you missed the fact that someone else was watching you."

Serena narrowed her eyes, but despite her irritation, she turned her head subtly to the left, following Sidney’s gaze. Near the tall windows, standing in the shadows, was an older man with a calculating expression. He was engaged in a quiet conversation with someone she hadn’t expected to see tonight.

Her uncle Matthew.

A surge of confusion flickered across her face. She hadn’t known Matthew would be attending, nor had she realized he was connected with Sidney’s supposed "mastermind." But then again, she had been too preoccupied with Aiden to notice much else.

Sidney leaned in closer, his voice barely above a whisper. "Surprised? I thought you would be. Do you know who that man is Rena?"

"No. But I believe you do." Serena murmured drily, returning the man’s gaze.

"He is a politician. The mayor of Vancity to be exact."

Serena stiffened. Vancity was the place where she had gone after leaving here. The place where Owen hailed from. And also the place where her accident had occurred. The traces of the accident had also been carefully erased.

"I see you understand the importance of the place. But this man has another identity. As it happens, he is also the Godfather of your Uncle Matthew and Uncle Daniel. Interesting, isn’t it? But he was never the Godfather of your father."

"I see." Serena muttered but she did not. So what if the man was not her father’s Godfather. That did not automatically make him the killer.

But then, Sidney dropped another bomb," He and your grandmother never got along. They could not see each other eye to eye and he always thought that his Godsons should have lived with him. In fact, he even tried to get their custody when they were young. Don’t you think that your Uncle Matthew resembles the old man?"
