Chapter 146: Scared

Serena stared at the man standing on her doorstep, blinking in disbelief. "I really don’t understand how you manage your business. Why are you always free to pester me like this?"

Aiden flashed a mischievous grin. "I have to make time for myself, don’t I? It’s all about that all-important work-life balance. And you, Serena, are my favorite hobby."

She raised an eyebrow, annoyed, "I don’t think I’m comfortable being categorized as your hobby." With that, she attempted to close the door firmly, only for him to swiftly jam his foot in the way.

"Hey! That’s not fair!" she exclaimed, "You can’t just get into my house whenever you want."

Aiden leaned against the doorframe, unfazed by her irritation. "Oh, come on now! You can always make me your hobby if you’re feeling that uncomfortable. I am fun to do." He waggled his eyebrows at the suggestive words and Serena couldn’t help but roll her eyes, her lips twitching into a reluctant smile despite her best efforts to appear annoyed. "Fun for you, maybe. I’m not sure I’m ready for your version of ’fun’ or ’doing’ you."

He chuckled, leaning in just a bit closer. "Oh, but I assure you, I’ll make it pleasurable for you as well."

Serena turned away, shaking her head as she walked past him into her small living room. "I have files to go through," she said, dismissing him with a wave of her hand. he wanted to come and stare at her doing her work, he was welcome to do just that.

She made her way to the dining table, where stacks of papers were strewn about like a chaotic landscape. With a determined sigh, she sat down, trying her best to focus on the work in front of her, deliberately ignoring Aiden’s presence.

Unexpectedly, he did not follow her, instead turning in the opposite direction, towards the kitchen. She rolled her eyes, muttering under her breath," Make yourself at home, why don’t you?"

But, since she was determined to ignore him, she immersed herself in the work, and had almost forgotten his existence when an enticing scent filled the air that made her stomach rumble.

Her curiosity piqued, Serena glanced up, her eyebrows knitting together in confusion.

"What are you doing in there?" she called out.

"Just whipping up a little something," Aiden replied, his voice cheerful and carefree. "Hope you’re hungry!"

She rolled her eyes, was there a time she was not hungry? But then she realized that it had been hours since she had eaten. Even in the afternoon, she’d forgotten about eating, until a box of lunch had appeared on the table... Her eyes narrowed. Mahi had told her that it had been by someone. So that ’someone’ could have possibly been him.

"Did you send the lunch in the afternoon?"

"Yep! I can’t have you starving yourself, can I? What will I do if grandma comes back and finds out you’d lost weight?"

Serena rolled her eyes and once again yelled, "Seriously, Aiden, you can’t just come over and start cooking in someone’s kitchen without asking."

Just then, Aiden walked out of the kitchen, and stood there with a hand on his hips," You’re not just someone. You’re my wife..."

However, Serena was not listening anymore as her jaw dropped at his look. While he looked the same, his suit jacket had been discarded somewhere inside the kitchen and his sleeves were rolled up. But it was the apron he was wearing... a white apron with ’lipstick’ printed all over, and a caption that read," Kiss the cook."

"What are you wearing?"

Aiden grinned and looked down at his apron before giving her an exaggerated wink," I don’t want you feel indebted when you eat the food. So, I thought that this should make clear on what kind of payment I expect."

Serena giggled at this and finally put down her pen. She had a weakness for his cooking.

As she stepped into the kitchen, the fragrance of herbs was much stronger. "So, what are you making?"

"My best dish ever- Creamy chicken Risotto." Aiden answered as he sprinkled some cheest on top of the dish...

"Oohh...Sounds interesting. Okay, then, give me a taste."

’Uh huh. Pay up, first."

"Hey! I just asked for a taste. How can you expect me to pay up first? I need to see if it is worth the payment?"

"Nope. First payment. Though we can negotiate..."Aiden raised his index finger in the air,"How about one kiss for a taste?"

Serena narrowed her eyes,"One?"

"Yep."

She nodded. "Okay, then. I’ll give you one."

She walked close to him as Aiden leaned against the counter, amazed that she had agreed so easily. As she leaned in close, he waited for the kiss, only to be kicked in the shin.

"Oww!" he exclaimed, stepping back dramatically and rubbing his leg, his expression a mix of surprise and amusement.

"Well, my foot kissed yours, didn’t it? Now, give me some pasta!" Serena grinned.

"You little minx! That’s not the payment I had in mind!"

She laughed, feeling victorious. "Well, you should have been clearer about your terms, Mr. Chef."

As promised, Aiden added the risotto to the bowl and handed it over, but before she could escape with her treasure, he caught her, the spoon in his hand," I’ll be feeding you the first bite."

Serena shrugged and opened her mouth, while he fed her and then, closed her eyes in pleasure! As always he’d outdone himself. "This is amazing..." She mumbled...

"I told you so..Okay, hold on. Why are you eating like a little kid. There is something on your..." He pointed to her cheek but before she could react, he darted forward, licking the cheese off her lips with a quick swipe of his tongue.

Serena’s eyes widened in shock, her spoon freezing mid-air. "What the—"

"Yup," Aiden said, pulling back with a satisfied smirk. "The salt is fine in the risotto..."
