Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband -
Chapter 138: Oops
Chapter 138: Oops
Sidney’s expression darkened, his jaw tightening as the temperature in the room seemed to drop. He pulled her arm, jerking her close to him and caught her chin and spoke in a low tone," Thats enough, Ava! You know nothing! Nothing at all! So, I suggest you think very carefully before speaking on this matter again."
"Oops, my bad. Didn’t mean to interrupt." There was a mocking lilt to the voice. "If I knew you two were having a moment, I would’ve stayed downstairs with the security guard. Tsk, tsk. People really should use their own cabins for private chats."
Ava stiffened at the familiar voice, her body going rigid. Slowly, she turned to look at the source, but not before her eyes caught Sidney’s. His face remained completely indifferent, not a trace of emotion showing as he released her chin, almost too casually, and turned to acknowledge Serena. Ava’s stomach twisted painfully, a sinking feeling forming as she realized Sidney had orchestrated this whole thing. He hadn’t even bothered to hold her hand before, and now—now, he’d done this. For Serena to see. He had probably timed this...
She turned to look at Serena, but she seemed to be showing the same indifferent expression as Sidney, not the least bit jealous. However, she was already hurt and snapped back," No one asked you to open the door without knocking or even to come here. Frankly, your rightful place is with the guards."
Serena didn’t flinch, her lips curling into a smirk. "And your rightful place," she shot back smoothly, "is with the dogs, considering all the yapping you’re doing."
Ava’s hands balled into fists at her sides, the heat rising in her chest as she stepped forward, prepared to retort, but Sidney cut her off, stepping in between them. His expression didn’t change, but there was a finality in his tone.
"That’s enough, Ava. Stop."
"Aren’t you tired of bringing your dog to heel all the time?" Serena muttered, her voice low but cutting as she walked closer, her gaze fixed on Sidney. She didn’t stop until she was right in front of him, barely a few inches away. Her eyes quickly scanned his face, and they widened as they landed on the bruise under his eye and the mark on his jaw.
"You’re hurt," she said softly, her expression shifting from indifference to something that almost resembled concern.
Ava’s hands clenched tightly at her sides, her nails digging into her palms. The sight of Serena standing so close to Sidney, acting concerned, was too much. Was she really showing such care for her fiancé while Ava was still right here, watching? The audacity stung, and Ava had half a mind to shove Sidney aside and put Serena in her place. How dare she—
But then Serena spoke again, and Ava froze.
"Aiden did tell me he fared better in the standoff between you two, but I didn’t expect you to be the one more bruised up. tsk tsk. All that kick boxing training for naught" Serena’s eyes lingered on Sidney’s face before she shook her head slightly. "He was indeed right." As she said this, there was almost a proud tilt in her voice that had Ava narrowing her eyes slightly.
With that, Serena walked past Sidney, her fingers brushing the conference table as she moved along its edge, completely ignoring Ava’s presence as though she were invisible. She took her time, her heels clicking against the floor, before settling herself in the chair at the head of the table, as though she had all the time in the world.
However, this time she did not burst out. Because she realized something... that Serena had already known that Sidney would be bruised. She was not the least bit shocked or even concerned about Sidney.
But more that that, the casual way Serena spoke about the fight, the way she seemed to know the details about the confrontation between Sidney and whoever the other person that Sid had a fight with, felt like a deliberate jab. Serena wasn’t just offering information—she was making it clear she had been involved, maybe even had some kind of inside knowledge that Ava wasn’t privy to. Meanwhile, her concern and questions regarding had been brushed aside by Sidney.
Just from this entire scenario, she could see that Serena was looking for a fight. What Ava didn’t know was how long she would be able to hold on...
"Rena," he said, his voice tight with barely controlled frustration. "Have you come to a decision?"
Serena shrugged, entirely unfazed. "Nope. I’m still thinking about it. After all, I have a few months to mull it over, don’t I?" She smiled casually, a deliberate contrast to the seriousness of the conversation. "As I understand it, until I come to a firm decision, the assets and investments will continue to be managed by the lawyers and won’t change hands. So, really—what’s the hurry?"
Sidney’s jaw clenched, and Ava could feel the anger burning within her."The hurry, Serena? The hurry is that while we’re still holding onto profits, our capital for future investments has been cut off. This is a critical time for market expansion, and because of you—and whatever ’black magic’ you pulled on Grandma—our hands are tied. We’re stuck in limbo, unable to move forward. And by the time you decide to stop playing games, our competitors will have already pushed ahead, leaving us scrambling in the dust."
Serena leaned back in her chair, crossing her legs as if the weight of Ava’s words didn’t affect her in the slightest. "So, what you’re saying is," she began slowly, her tone almost mocking, "you’re feeling the heat. The pressure. And somehow, that’s supposed to make me rush a decision? Isn’t that sweet. See, the thing is, I cannot be bothered with the entire expansion thing. In fact, I would be quite happy to see you all covered in dust. So, frankly, your words are in fact encouraging me to put off making a decision."
