Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 132: Chewing Gum

Chapter 132: Chewing Gum

As Serena stepped out of the lawyer’s office, she wasn’t expecting to see Sidney still lingering by the entrance. She came to a halt, crossing her arms with a dramatic sigh before rolling her eyes at him. "Seriously? Are you like a piece of chewing gum stuck to my shoe? Why are you still here? What do I have to do to get rid of you?"

Sidney, unfazed by her sharp tone, offered her a calm smile. "Well, for starters, you could stop trying so hard to shake me off." He gestured toward his car, parked nearby, and moved to open the passenger door for her with a practiced, almost chivalrous ease. "I’m just trying to make this as easy as possible for everyone, Serena. Including you."

Serena arched an eyebrow, her arms still crossed as she stared down at the open car door. "If you really want to make things easier, then all you need to do is leave me alone," she shot back, stepping to the side as if physically distancing herself from Sidney and his persistent presence. "And I’m definitely not getting into that car. I’ve had enough drama for one day. The last thing I need is your fiancée trying to slap me again."

Sidney winced, his smile faltering slightly as a look of genuine regret crossed his face. "Serena, I’m sorry about that. I didn’t expect Ava to react the way she did. I’ll talk to her," he offered, his tone softening. "She’s... well, she’s not really my fiancée. That was—"

"Oh, cut it out," Serena interrupted sharply, her patience wearing thin. "Give it a rest, Sidney. I don’t care what your explanation is. It’s none of my business anymore." She shook her head and glanced toward the street. "I’m leaving. I have somewhere to be... with my husband." Her voice carried a note of finality as she made it clear she was done with the conversation.

Sidney opened his mouth as if to say something, but before he could get the words out, a car horn blared from down the street. They both turned at the sound, and Serena immediately spotted Aiden sitting behind the wheel of his car, his gaze fixed on them.

A slow, thin smile spread across Serena’s lips as she turned back to Sidney. "Looks like my ride’s here," she said coolly, her voice laced with subtle triumph. "Goodbye, Sidney." Without another word, she spun on her heel and walked toward Aiden’s car, leaving Sidney standing by the curb, his unfinished words hanging in the air.

Sidney grimaced as he watched her leave before making a move himself. It seemed he would have to find a way to get to Aiden to reach Serena.

Serena slid into the passenger seat and gave Aiden a sidelong glance, her lips curling into a teasing smile as she looked at his eager face. He seemed too please with hismelf for getting here as she sat in his car instead of Sidney’s. "Were you just lurking around here or something? You got here awfully fast. Stalker vibes, Aiden."

Aiden raised an eyebrow, not missing a beat as he answered back. "Stalker? Really? I risked life and limb, broke every traffic law known to man, and this is the thanks I get? A sarcastic jab and an accusation of being a stalker?"

"Oh, please," she shot back, buckling her seatbelt. "You make it sound like you crossed the entire city dodging bullets and jumping over flaming wreckage."

"I practically did!" he exclaimed, feigning offense. "You think I enjoy weaving through honking cars and nearly getting hit by a bus? I could’ve died, Serena. Died!"

"Well, I’m glad you lived to tell the tale," she quipped, leaning back in her seat. "Though I wouldn’t mind if you toned down the drama a little. Your office is just a few blocks away. I could have walked there."

Aiden chuckled, shaking his head. "A few blocks! Oh please. Also, if you wanted someone with no flair, you should’ve called a librarian or something. Sorry, honey, you’re stuck with the full experience of Aiden Hawk."

Serena laughed, the tension in her shoulders finally easing. "Okay, fine, I’ll give you some credit. You’re very... punctual. It’s almost like you have a sixth sense for when I’m about to need rescuing. And I hate it when you call me ’honey’. It sounds weird coming from you."

"Ha! You started it, Serena honey..."

Serena laughed at this, before turning her head away to look out of the window, "Thanks for showing up, Aiden. Though I could have taken a cab..."

"I’ll always show up when you call for me, Serena." he replied softly, and Serena looked at him, feeling awkward at his sincerety. She wanted to retort that she had not been the one to call for him and he had been the one who offered but that made her feel like a hypocrite. Thankfully, he lightened the conversation as he continued with a sad face, "Even if you don’t appreciate my death-defying stunts."

Serena giggled. She could not bear any heavy emotions right now. But having someone to talk with, without fear, was a God sent.

After a few moments of silence, Aiden asked," Where do you want to go? Home? You don’t have to worry about any awkward questions. Ella and Nate are both back in the dorms and grandma has left the country this morning. One of her old friends is hosting a party to celebrate her ninetieth birthday... It’s a month-long celebration."

Serena looked down at her hands and sighed. She knew what he was telling her. That she did not have to live in the hotel. But..." Can you take me somewhere?"

"Sure. I am your chauffeur after all." Aiden murmured and she smiled before saying," I don’t know if that place will be quite livable but I would like to see it..."

"Uh huh! We won’t know until we get there. So, come on up and add the address into the GPS."
