Falling For My Accidental CEO Husband
Chapter 113: On Time

Chapter 113: On Time

Edwina Dawn sat stiffly in her high-backed chair, glaring at the large antique clock on the wall across from her. The room was silent except for the rhythmic ticking of the clock’s pendulum, each swing amplifying her growing impatience. Her sharp eyes narrowed further as the minute hand edged closer to seven-thirty.

Another minute, she thought darkly, her fingers tapping the armrest in a steady rhythm. Another minute, and I’ll have the staff pack her bags and toss her out of this house.

She didn’t tolerate lateness, especially from the likes of her. But just as the clock struck seven-thirty exactly, the door creaked open. Edwina’s eyes flicked toward it, and a slow, smug smile crept across her lips.

Ah, of course. The girl was clever—waiting until the very last moment, trying not to appear weak by arriving too early. But the child had much to learn. She didn’t know who she was dealing with. Edwina Dawn had seen every trick in the book, played every game, and there was not a soul on this earth who could get past her.

The girl stepped timidly into the room, her head slightly bowed, fingers nervously twisting the hem of her blouse. She snorted inwardly. Look at her pretending to be all weak and submissive, when she had blatantly ignored her call earlier!

"Grandmother...You asked me to come. Did you have something you wanted to say to me?"

Edwina let out a sharp, disdainful sound. "Did I have something to say to you?" she repeated, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, I most certainly do."

Without warning, she launched into her scolding, her words cutting like a whip. "You think I don’t know what you have been upto! Stop acting like you are some innocent little miss? Parading yourself around with boys at such a young age? You’re barely old enough to know how the world works, and already you’re dragging the Dawn family name through the mud. Shameless!"

The girl’s eyes widened in surprise, but Edwina was already on a roll.

"Dating!" she spat the word like it was filth. "Already at your age! Have you no shame, no sense of decency? You think the Dawn family will tolerate this sort of behavior? My family? You must be as foolish as you are reckless. Do you even understand what kind of position you’re in? Or do you just care about showing your face with whatever boy gives you attention?"

Even though Serena had already realised that the old woman had probably seen her with Sidney and misjudged, she listened quietly, having no intention of explaining. So, she continued to listen to the tirade.

"I’ve been generous—too generous—allowing you to attend school with my other grandchildren. And this is how you repay me? By tarnishing the Dawn name? Walking around like some common girl, associating with boys as if you have no better prospects or dignity. I will not tolerate this. If I hear of you pulling another stunt like this again, I’ll throw you out myself! You won’t have a place in this house, or in this family, do you understand?"

Yes yes. She understood is what she wanted to say. But remaining quiet was alright too.

But her calm silence, seemed to agitate Edwina Dawn instead as she continued, her voice rising with every word as she let her anger fuel her tirade. "You’re just like your mother," she sneered, her eyes narrowing with cold contempt. "A seductress. Always chasing after men, seeking attention, and stealing a son from this family. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, does it? You are already trying to get boys so that you have someone to depend on when you are older!"

"That is enough!" Serena’s outbreak stunned Edwina into silence as she stared at the girl! No one had ever dared to interrupt her when she was talking. Not her own children and definitely not her grandchildren. But this time, Serena was not done. "You don’t know anything!" she shouted, her voice cracking. "You don’t know me, or how I feel, or what I’m going through. You think just because you sit up here, controlling everyone, that you have the right to tell me what to do? And the right to say anything about my parents? Well, you don’t!"

"You want to throw me out of your house? Well, guess what? I would like nothing better that that! Even living on the streets would definitely be better than this! The only reason I am even staying here, in this horrible place is because of my father! I don’t know why but he wanted me to be with you! Just like you are tolerating me because of your son! I am tolerating you because of my father!

"And, Mrs Dawn! Regarding boys? The biggest reason why I was sitting there, eating dinner with a boy was YOU. Yes! Shocking, isn’t it? In this big house of yours, even the dogs and cats get better food than me, let alone the servants! So, I would rather grab a meal outside when a friend offers it!"

Serena swallowed hard, pushing past the lump in her throat, as she wanted to cry.. "You talk about shame, but I’m not the one who should be ashamed! It is you who should be ashamed! For your horrible upbringing! That despite living in this glass house, your children and grandchildren would order the servants to not give me any food."

"Mrs. Dawn. I am willing to leave this prison just as soon as my ’sentence’ is over. And until then, I will keep my head down, like you asked. And in return, you will stay out of my way!"

The silence that followed this was thick and as the older woman sat there stunned, Serens turned around and marched out, banging the library door behind her..

And as she did, she failed to notice a light in her grandmother’s voice. Even thoughs he was regretting the outburst as soon as she walked out, she could not have guessed that this would forever change her life.
