Chapter 84: THE DAY OF A SUCCUBUS (4)
By the time the suns had climbed high in the sky, casting their harsh light over the demon realm, Velmoria had completed her morning duties. As the hour of the tea time approached, Velmoria constantly fidgeted, the need to find someone to feed on gnawing on her with every second. No matter how hard she tried to distract herself with chores or idle chatter as she worked, it was as if a switch had been flipped in her, since that
The morning moved quickly, and by the time the hour of the planned tea time approached, Velmoria felt with certainty that she wanted nothing more than to run away.
The tea party, as Queen Arella had instructed, was to be held in the garden, just like before. The garden had been decorated simply, but tastefully, seeing as the queen had invited only those she had seemed to like from the day before.
Velmoria was sad that she had not joined in on the first tea party, if only to see how the queen would act around the haughty nobles.
However, she had had duties to attend to on that day, given by the king.
Velmoria sighed, as she looked around the garden one last time. The deep blue table linens that had been chosen matched beautifully with the white roses and tables of the garden. She stood at the edge of the, inspecting the placement of some floral arrangements, as she steeled herself. Her hunger grew with every passing minute, and she was finding it increasingly difficult to stay standing, let alone do her work.
It was not a physical hunger gnawing at her, it was, she realized now, something deeper. Ever since she woke, and since she saw the angel in the dining area, which made it worse. Her instincts, usually sharp and reliable despite being a lesser demon, were now muddled with something unfamiliar.
It had everything to do with ... need.
The realization hit her like a blow to the chest, as the realization of what it might be struck her. She was no fool. She had grown up wishing for fated mates, for true love. But now, she did not want anything of the sort. She had a mission to fulfill, to the demon queen, to her king.
She scolded herself internally, ’This is ridiculous. He is an angel. Untouchable.’
Although she said this to herself over and over again, her body did not seem to get the message. Her teeth itched as her fangs grew longer with each passing second. It was utterly maddening.
As she adjusted the last vase of roses, the strong flowery scent of the roses doing nothing to help with her need, she pressed her nails to her palm, drawing blood. The pain grounded her enough, and she shook her head in frustration.
’You are a succubus. You feed off of high ranking demons, surely you can control yourself." She tried to reason with herself.
At least, she used to have some control. Now all she wanted was to sneak into a certain angel’s room and have her way with him.
The garden doors creaked open behind her at that moment, thankfully pulling her from her spiraling thoughts. She turned, expecting perhaps one of the maids, or perhaps the queen, but instead, found herself staring at Lady Seraphine and Lady Immera, the rustle of their gowns thankfully enough to pull her out of her lust filled haze.
"Velmoria." Lady Immera greeted her voice not concealing the pleasant surprise at seeing her. "It has been so long since I have seen you. Have you been well? My word, how long has it been."
Instinctively, as she was in front of noble demons, Velmoria bowed her body into a bow, "It has been approximately onehundred and eighty five years."
"The king has been keeping you so busy that you do not have a social life anymore." Lady Immera let out a tsk. Velmoria knew that she really did not care about her and was only speaking to her because she was a close advisor to the king. Nevertheless, she did not let it show on her face.
"I do what I can so that the demon realm can be successful." Velmoria’s bow deepened.
Lady Immera hummed, although Velmoria could still feel her sharp gaze lingering on her for a beat too long. For a second, Velmoria was sure that the older demon could sense the tension that lingered underneath her skin. However, she said nothing, and instead walked alongside Lady Seraphine, who ignored her presence entirely, to the seats allocated for the tea party.
Just a moment later, when Velmoria was sure she could slip away and inform the queen that her guests had begun to arrive, the door opened again, and this time, a cotton candy ball all but fell into Velmoria’s arms. Velmoria stumbled back, actually surprised by assault.
She immediately recognized the hair as belonging to young Lady Darvia. Velmoria had never met her personally, but from what she had read on her, she was quite the cannonball. In addition to being the only female set to inherit her father’s estate, she was also a good warrior, something not commonly seen in women.
Although she was young, Velmoria had immense respect for her.
Just as she was about to bow, and get along with her day, the girl’s scent hit her like a punch to the gut. Velmoria’s hands trembled as she clutched the girl’s dress, her fingers digging into the fabric. She could not seem to tear her eyes away from the young lady, away from the way her pink eyes sparkled int he afternoon light, from the delicate curve of her lips as she gave Velmoria a small acknowledging smile before sauntering up to Lady Immera and Lady Seraphine.
As she took her seat next to the two noble ladies.
In a place where Velmoria could never get a place, no matter how hard she worked for the king.
