FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING -

Chapter 57: THE TEA PARTY WITH THE NOBLE LADIES (4)
She had felt like dying after three days, and there were demons who had kept on for a whole week. Also, were they really comfortable speaking of such things in the presence of two girls who had yet to come of age?
A demon with light pink hair raised her hand. "Oooh, I know that story." This demon was, in one word... gorgeous. Her light pink hair had been braided in pigtails down her back, and she wore a light pink gown that matched her hair.
Her eyes were also a beautiful shade of pink that Arella felt she could be drawn into if she was not careful. It was Lady Darvia, whom Arella had refused to believe she could be as beautiful as her portrait showed. Now, she could say with certainty that the portrait did her no justice.
"Go on," Lady Immera said. "I am sure the queen would love to hear it as well."
Arella found herself nodding, curious, although she found the whole discussion scandalous. "It was way before the last king came into power. The queen at that time had a female mate, but she had still gotten betrothed to the king. She agreed to marry the king on the condition that she would not be forced to stay away from her mate."
Lady Darvia was literally bouncing in her chair as she told the story, "But then after they got married, it turned out that the king was also the queen’s mate. Since it turned out like that, the three of them decided to get married together." she lowered her voice, "I read that they took a month off every year to go vacationing. Just. The. Three. Of. Them."
The table burst in oohs and aahs as Lady Darvia finished her story. She looked very proud to have known it, and her nose was all the way up in the air as Lady Immera gave her an indulgent smile. Lady Darvia, despite her accomplishments in battle, was a very lively demon.
"So it is common for demons to have mates?" Arella asked.
"Yes." Lady Seraphine answered, "It helps ground a demon, and some have even reported that their powers grow after marrying their fated partner."
"Some nobles absolutely detest that," Lady Ferasia shook her head.
Arella was curious. "What do you mean?"
"Well," she looked around as if hoping that one of the other demons would answer in her stead, they all avoided her gaze though. "Ugh, for nobles, bloodline is important, so if the mate of their child is a commoner, they may have them killed off to ensure the purity of the bloodline or some other thing."
"True, but it seems that the king may very well be your mate, your highness," Lady Immera put down her cup. "What if his relentless pursuit of you is anything to go by."
"Relentless is one way to put it."
"Now that I think about it, you may be right," Lady Seraphine nodded. "The king did not have any interest in women previously; the fact that he kept you up for those few days might have very well been a warning to all who would dare oppose the marriage."
"What?" Just when she had been thinking to confront him because she thought that he had been using her for his own male ego, such information popped up.
"That would make sense. If the two of you are mates, then irregardless of your status as an angel, no one can say a word if the two of you are fated. Of course his parents would have opposed, but..." No one finished Lady Ferasia’s words, but Arella could guess what she was going to say. After all, she also knew that the king’s parents were currently dead.
"Your majesty," Lady Imerra tapped on the table, getting everyone’s attention. "Have you not had this discussion with the king?"
Arella shook her head. "I did not think to have such a discussion. Angels do not have mates, fated mates." The only discussion she had thought to have was to figure out what he expected from her in thier marriage.
Not that that discussion had gone well.
Lady Imerra’s eyes pressed together. "Then do you mean to say that you feel nothing for our king?"
Arella quickly shook her head. "Of course that is not the case. The king is very... kind. Nothing like what I was expecting." Was the fact that she wanted to jump his bones any time they were in the vicinity of each other something she had to say?
"Ah, I see." Lady Immera said, a knowing smile tugging on her lips, "I believe it is good to start with knowing each other. Even if our assumption is correct, which it may not be, there is nothing that can be done about it if you do not feel what the king feels."
Arella felt the weight of their gazes, and she placed her hands on her lap to steady herself. "I have... much to learn about the demon realm and its ways. Even if I do not feel what the king does, this marriage is my responsibility; I will ensure that I take care of him."
S.T:
Lady Immera: Our poor king has much to do with regards to getting the queen to like him
Varziel: (sneezes while in his office) Is someone thinking about me? (Shakes his head.) Is my queen doing well? I hope she isn’t being mistreated by the demons.
Velmoria: Trust me, your highness, I picked only trustworthy demons to come to the gathering. None of them would dare insult the queen in any way
Varziel: Do you not think I should go there? To protect her
Varziel’s assistant: (clutching at his robes in tears) Your highness, there is too much work to be done! Please have mercy on this servant of yours.
Varziel: (Looks at Velmoria with pleading eyes.)
Velmoria: (Shrugs) Don’t look at me. I have done all that I can. Have some faith in your queen, won’t you? She is much stronger than you think, not an angel who needs your protection at every corner
Varziel: (Deadpan) You have not stopped spying on her since you came into the office.
Velmoria: That is besides the point!
