Chapter 56: THE TEA PARTY WITH THE NOBLE LADIES (3)

"Romantic?" Arella asked.

"Well, demons usually give flowers to their wife after their marriage, but I heard from my husband that many demon kings planted flowers for their wives "

Arella’s cheeks flushed lightly at the revelation, though she managed to mask it with a polite smile. The thought of the demon king, her insatiable husband, engaging in such a tradition, and planting a garden by himself, was something she definitely had not anticipated. She glanced at the roses again, the pristine white petals gleaming in the sunlight, and felt an unfamiliar warmth stirring within her.

"How fascinating. In the angel realm, the male usually prepares a gift of light, most of the time it is the form of jewelry, for his wife to be," She tapped on the armrest as she spoke, "This token is imbued with his essence, meant to protect her and in turn signify their bond." She smiled, remembering the anklet that her mother never took off.

"Because it is difficult not to know who your partner will be, the jewelry is prepared with the wife in mind. Many angel men will make jewelry that is similar to what the wife wears often, or something that they would definitely like. While the wife prepares a ring for her husband, to show her lifetime devotion to him." Arella did not mind sharing this information, seeing as they had also shared information with her.

"How romantic." A demon, younger than most of those who had gathered, gushed.

"I agree." Another demon spoke up as Arella let her gaze linger on the roses for a moment longer, their serene beauty somehow now calling out to her. If King Varziel really planted these roses for his future spouse, and that future spouse was now her, had he had another person in mind when planting them?

Lady Seraphine tilted her head, her ice like features softening, "A gift of light, how poetic. The angels and demons seem to have that in common, valuing the symbolic gestures in marriage, though the methods differ."

Arella nodded, her fingers brushing absently over the delicate lace of her dress, "Indeed, I feel like these traditions reveal the values of a species. Humans, for example, are an inherently greedy species, and angels, above all else, see themselves above all the other species."

Her words caused the other demons to laugh, "I do not think you should be saying such a thing while you are also an angel yourself your highness." Lady Immera could not hide her smile this time.

"I only speak the truth," Arella tilted her head. She was confused about what was so funny. Even the angels did not try to hide it. Although the main reason they helped humans was because it was their job, it made most, if not all of them, feel superior thanks to it.

As the laughter died down, one lady, who Arella recognized as Lady Ferasia, one of the unmarried demons, "Speaking of, your highness, it has been the talk of the nobles how..." she looked around, then bowed her head and lowered her voice as if she was about to tell a huge secret, "you have been settling in quite nicely in your marriage with the demon king."

Although her question sounded innocent enough, the wiggling of her eyebrows told otherwise. Arella was tempted to facepalm. "Settling in," Arella echoed, feeling a flush climb up her neck. Even though she was the demon queen, she was still an angel after all, Angels did not speak of their bedroom matters with anyone else apart from their partner, "to my knowledge, things between the demon king and I are progressing quite alright."

Lady Seraphine giggled, "We heard that the king is quite lively your majesty."

Arella felt her flush deepen. She raised her cup to take a sip of her tea in an attempt to calm herself down. Although Velmoria had warned her, she still was not prepared for such a question. She looked down at Echo, who had stopped munching on his treats to look up at her. His face looked inquisitive, as if he was also waiting for an answer.

"Lively is one way to describe him," Arella finally said. "Is it quite normal, for demon males to have such endurance?" Arella finally asked, gripping tightly on her tea cup. The embarrassment of this moment would never end.

Her words earned a ripple of laughter from the table, "Your majesty," Lady Seraphine finally spoke, "If my husband tried to keep me up for three nights I would castrate him."

Arella’s flush had, by this point, climbed up to her neck. How could she say that with such a straight face.

"Castrate?"

"Do you not do that in the angel realm?" she snipped her forefinger and middle finger together, "You know, cutting their part off if they try something stupid."

"Not that I know of," Arella shook her head.

"You should think about it," Lady Seraphine tipped her glass to her, "Men are like dogs, you need to tame them early enough in the marriage, so that they do not do something that would displease you."

"But who would refuse such endurance?" Lady Ferasia added to the lively discussion.

"You would definitely love it, but that is because you are a succubus Lady Ferasia," another demon let out a cackle as she spoke. The horns and leather wings were definitely an indication of Lady Ferasia’s lineage.

"You would also need endurance as well. I doubt I would manage three days and nights without proper rest." Lady Seraphine added.

"Endurance indeed," Arella said lightly, lifting her tea cup to her lips. The tea had already gone warm. "Three nights without proper rest have certainly proven that to me." If it were not for her training, she would have definitely passed out after the first night.

The laughter that erupted from the group was a mix of genuine amusement and scandalized delight. Lady Immera even let out a hearty chuckle, her earlier sharpness softening ever so slightly, "Ah, young love," she said shaking her head, "You younglings know nothing. In our time, the women were much worse than the men, I heard there was a queen with a female lover once. Her and her female lover kept the king in their chambers for a week." She cackled.

Arella blinked twice.

A week?
