FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING
Chapter 114: THE VIXIANTE PARA (2)

Chapter 114: THE VIXIANTE PARA (2)

It wasn’t until the heavy doors sealed shut behind them that she finally exhaled the breath she’d been holding.

"That was..." what was the word she wanted? Terrifying? Exhilarating?

She was not sure what feeling it was, just that her heart was pounding in her chest, and her breathing was just a bit heavier.

"Quiet," Haniel cut her off, raising his hand to silence her. His voice was barely above a whisper, and still echoed through the large hall. "The Everwatcher is near."

Arella stilled upon hearing his words, and pressed her palms tightly to the tunic she wore. Her nerves were palpable, and she pressed her nails tightly into her palm. At the very least, the pain grounded her.

The Hall of Eternity stretched before them, a vast chamber lined with towering pillars. The first thing Arella noticed was the sheer vastness of the hall. The space they had walked into stretched endlessly, filled with towering columns that shimmered with shifting golden runes. The air was thick with a heavy, unyielding power—one that settled over her shoulders like a mantle that seemingly pressed her down, as if testing her very presence.

At the very center of the room, on the floor of the heart of the hall, stood a large mirror.

The Archon’s Mirror.

It was enormous.

A towering, circular expanse of silvered glass, framed in gold and radiating an eerie, rippling glow. The golden frame glowed with runes that slithered as if alive. Arella had never seen anything like it.

The Archon’s mirror.

The name repeated in her mind once more, and like an echo, a memory fell into her mind as well. The mirror was said to hold the truths of all things, reflecting not just the present, but the past and future as well.

Instinctively, she could tell that this was the reason why she had been brought here. This was why she had been dragged away from her home, from her world.

However, what truly stole her breath was the massive floating eye that hovered above the mirror.

The Foreverwatcher.

Once again, Arella just instinctively knew. As if memories that were not her own filtered into her mind to give her the memory.

His gaze, the Foreverwatcher’s eye, was one singular eye, that hovered just above the mirror. It was much larger than the mirror, covering more than half of the room, with rings that rotated around it. More runes were etched onto the closed eye, and though closed, it pulsed with a slow and almost obvious awareness, with its rings shifting in endless motion, as if unraveling the very fabric of fate, or perhaps of time.

Silver chains hung from the rings that rotated around the eye, dangling close to the mirror, the only thing that obstructed their way.

Arella felt it then.

A tug.

Not physical, but deeper—like something within her was being pulled, unraveled, laid bare in front of this massive being. She had to get close to that mirror.

Her heartbeat thundered in her ears as they carefully advanced , each step as soft as they could make them. The Foreverwatcher did not stir as they took those soft steps in the chamber, and it was all Arella could do to force herself to breathe as quietly as she could.

Her muscles were rigid as they approached the mirror.

The silver chains that draped down to the floor, slithered closer to the ground with every step the two angels took. Their lengths glimmered like threads of moonlight, swaying gently, making sounds which sounded like whispers of an ancient tongue. Arella could feel the pull to get closer to the mirror grow even larger.

Haniel, thank the lands, walked forward first, passing through the chains as though they were nothing but mere curtains. They wrapped around his ankles and wrists for just a few seconds before letting go.

Arella watched him walk as she hesitated, but only for a moment, before she also followed behind him.

The chains slithered closer to her the closer she approached, coiling around the floor in slow arcs, as if scenting the air for deception. They were cold as they brushed against her skin, and all she could think of at that moment was how she terribly wanted to run from the room.

They slithered around her form, and Arella forced herself to stay still, as they slithered up her arms, and down her legs. The chains tightened around her waist, gripping her tightly for a brief second, just for an instant, before loosening again.

She exhaled silently, and stepped quickly through to the other side where Haniel stood in wait.

They were close now, and the Archon’s Mirror stood before them. Now that she was closer, Arella truly noticed how massive the mirror was. The massive and polished surface was encased in gold and inscribed with runes. It towered over her and HanielThe reflection of it shimmered and rippled unnaturally.

The pull Arella felt grew even bigger now, and, as if she no longer had control over her body, she raised her hand to touch the mirror. The moment she did, the rippling stopped, and staring back at her, was herself. It was not her in Kratel’s body, but her original self.

Arella barely had any time to react before the world shattered around her. A wave of force crashed into her mind, and suddenly the ground beneath her disappeared and she was falling.

And falling.

The world around her spun rapidly, causing her to feel dizzy. Bile rose up her throat, and just when she thought she could not handle it anymore, the ground settled.

She stood in a battlefield, and the sky was scorched black. The ground was littered with broken weapons and dead bodies. The air reeked of burning flesh and blood. Arella breathed heavily, and looked around, searching for a clue as to where she was now.

Her breath came out in short pants, as anxiety slowly crept over her entire being.

She took one small step, and her leg snagged onto a body. Upon looking down, the figure that lay before her cuased her to gasp.

Varziel.

His body was broken, his black wings torn from his back, and his eyes lifelessly looked up at the sky. His weapon was embedded in the ground beside him, its light dim.

Arella’s breath caught in her throat, and all the strength fell from her knees as she fell, cradling him in her arms.

"Varziel. No. Please." She patted his cheek, which had long grown cold, "Please say something, please look at me."

At that moment, a wind blew and a voice whispered through it, ’Why did you abandon us? Arella. Look at what you did.’

"I didn’t," Arella choked out, gripping Varziel’s body closer to her. "I would never abandon those dear to me." Her body felt like it was growing cold, "This is not real. There is no way this is real."

She could feel her heartbeat thundering in her ears. She could feel her head become light headed, and she could feel her entire body grow weightless once more. Varziel’s body fell out of her hands.

Arella grabbed at the air, trying to get a hold of Varziel’s body. However, all she caught was thin air.

’You are not supposed to be here.’ A new voice spoke in her mind. ’All who stand before the Mirror bear the weight of their truths. Will you be able to withstand the gaze of eternity that holds your truth?’

Panic clawed at her throat, as she scrambled around the new darkness, seeking Varziel’s body. However, it was as if it had never been there in the first place. Arella breathed, in an attempt to calm herself.

In, and out.

The body had not been there in the first place.

There was now ay that Varziel was dead.

He was strong, and just like she was fighting to get back to him, he would also fight to get back to her.

She stood from where she had been kneeling, looking around the perpetual darkness that covered her. "Who goes there?" She called out.

The moment she asked that question, she felt stupid. It also felt like someone was laughing at her, although she did not know who it was. The presence around her felt like it was gnawing at her mind, trying to uncover a secret.

’I shall ask you the question.’ The voice spoke again in her mind. ’Who are you, child?’
