FALLEN ANGEL: MARRIED TO THE DEMON KING
Chapter 113: THE VIXIANTE PARA(1)

Chapter 113: THE VIXIANTE PARA(1)

Arella followed Haniel as they moved through the corridors of the celestial spire. Everything had that unfamiliar yet familiar feel to it. It was as if she was going through a forced feeling of deja vu.

Their footsteps were muffled by the pristine marble floors, and the air was thick with divinity, much unlike the feeling of holy power she got when she was back home. Unlike them, the angels here did not use their halos as power regulators but as something completely different.

That was perhaps the reason why Arella was unable to take off the halo that hoovered above Kratel’s head when she wanted to take a shower.

Their halos were not detachable like the ones she was used to.

A heavy sense of dread filled Arella with every step they took that brought them closer to the hall of eternity.

"By the heavens." Haniel muttered to her as they walked, "I seem to have forgotten to inform you about the obstacle that will be waiting for us in the hall of eternity."

Arella raised a brow, "You mean something other than the existential threat of our souls and bodies being disintegrated by the council?"

"Something like that." Both their voices were low enough that no one who walked past them heard their words.

"Well then, what is this terrifying thing you completely forgot to mention to me."

Haniel tried to be discrete as he turned his head left and right, trying to see if anyone was listening in their conversation.

The keyword here was tried.

With how bulky his frame was, and how suspicious he looked when he turned his head like that, he could not be discrete even if the word hit him smack in the face.

"In the place you come from, is there someone who is referred to as ’The Foreverwatcher?’"

"The who?"

"The Foreverwatcher." Haniel repeated, "The Fateweaver? Tenun de Hasib? He is the one who holds the power to see the fate of the world. Some say he can even decide the fate of angels if he so wishes. That is how strong his power is."

There was momentary silence as Arella tried to remember if she had heard those titles before. However, she was pretty sure that she had not heard such a title before. Then, like a lightbulb, it dawned on her, "The Vixiante Para? That is the only being who has somewhat of a role to this Foreverwatcher you speak of."

If only Castiel could see her now.

She knew she was always smart.

"But where I come from, The Vixiante Para is the stuff of legend. He is only spoken of in history books."

Haniel sighed, "then I believe you will have to work double time to ensure that he does not figure you out. I heard he has a knack of knowing when someone is lying to him. But he remains slumbering most of the time, so let us wish we find him in slumber."

Arella bobbed her head like a chicken that was pecking rice. "Anything else I have to watch out for?"

There was a moment of silence as they paused their walking to bow to some other angels that did not appear in Arella’s incomplete memory of Kratel’s.

It was obvious that they had more to tell, especially seeing as Kratel had been unconscious for quite a while. However, Haniel deterred them with a smile and a few words. Within seconds, they were back on their walk to the Hall of Eternity.

"Although The Forverwatcher is most likely asleep, we still have to watch for his chains of oathbinding. He may be asleep, but his chains are always laying in wait to do what he cannot while he slumbers."

Arella’s steps slowed. "Chains? What do you mean ’his chains’?"

Haniel’s expression darkened slightly. "The Foreverwatcher is bound to the Hall of Eternity by divine law. He is not nor allowed meant to interfere unless his power is directly called upon. However, his will still lingers in the hall, even in his slumber. His Chains of Oathbinding are... how do I put this? They are like extensions of his judgment. They test intruders, seekers of the forbidden knowledge, seeking out Archon’s mirror for example, and anyone who dares approach the Archon’s Mirror without being allowed to."

Arella narrowed her eyes. "And what exactly do these chains do?"

Haniel let out a grunt, obviously frustrated at the lack thereof of knowledge on Arella’s part. Arella kept his pace, mimicking his stride as best as she could, and was immensely grateful for Kratel’s long legs.

They passed through an archway into a long corridor. Tall stained-glass windows lined the walls, their intricate designs depicting the glorious victories of the Angels. Arella’s gaze briefly flickered over the images—golden-winged angels striking down their enemies, celestial beings locking away forbidden knowledge, a towering figure wielding a burning spear.

Her gaze flicked toward the towering doors ahead and she instinctively knew that they were almost at the entrance. "The chains test truths. If the Foreverwatcher senses deceit, his chains will ensnare the liar and bind them in an unbreakable vow. And if the lie is great enough..." His jaw clenched.

Arella was not a fool. She could tell what he meant even if he did not say it directly.

"Well, isn’t that just lovely," she muttered. "So, let me get this straight. The moment we set foot inside, we might get caught in a divine interrogation, and if I say anything that doesn’t fit with Kratel’s actual memories, I’m doomed?"

Haniel hesitated. "Not quite. The chains do not always react immediately. They are patient. They wait for contradictions, for proof of deception. If we are careful, if you stick to what you do know, we might avoid their attention entirely."

"Great. So my life depends on my ability to improvise flawlessly. No pressure."

Haniel smirked faintly. "You were so confident earlier. What happened to all that reckless bravado?"

Arella rolled her eyes. "I like my bravado when it doesn’t come with the risk of being killed._"

"Then stay close to me. Let me speak when necessary. If you must answer something, keep it vague, and above all—do not hesitate. Hesitation is the first thing the chains will latch onto."

Arella took a deep breath, steadying herself. "Alright. Got it. Let’s do this before I start overthinking and psych myself out."

"There are guards," Arella muttered under her breath as they walked. "What’s the plan?"

Haniel barely spared her glance, "Keep walking and do not hesitate. Remember, he was much higher in rank than all of these people. Act as confident as you can."

Arella laughed softly, "Don’t you know, my middle name is confidence. Back in my world, they call me the Queen of Confidence."

As they approached the doors, Arella kept her gaze forward, her lips pulled in a thin line and not sparing a gaze at the guards who stood at the door. Although she was not sure how Kratel normally carried himself, she was sure that if he truly was a prince, then he must have some level of arrogance.

The guards did not move as they approached, the only thing indicating that they were not statues being the soft twitch of their wings. They, however, made no effort to stop them. As they walked, Haniel gave the guards a small nod, which only one of them nodded back.

It was almost as if a silent communication passed between them, although Arella was sure that was not the case.

They moved their spears, letting them pass. Haniel nodded once, then pressed his palm to the doors of the Hall of Eternity. With a low, resonant hum, the doors began to open. Haniel did not break stride and neither did Arella. It was not until the heavy doors were sealed shut that she finally exhaled the breath that she had been holding the entire time.

S/T:

Arella: I practically exude confidence. Anyone who tries to tell you anything else is a liar and a cheat and you should only trust me.

Varziel: (Chuckles) Yes yes. You are right my queen. We will smite all those who try to do defame you in any form and manner.

Arella: (Hugs Varziel) You’re absolutely the best. I have a plan... (Whispers)

*The scene fades to black as Arella does not want anyone else to hear the grand plan she has to ensure no one ever defames her.*
