Chapter 213: Chapter 211 Xiaoshi’s Interest.
After Xiaoshi turned four, Pei Yu began consciously teaching him various things to expand his hobbies. Besides Horse Riding and Archery, the little guy showed a keen interest in Musical Instruments.
Pei Yu asked him which Musical Instrument he wanted to learn, but he couldn’t decide himself; eventually, he chose the Piano and Violin first.
Two years later, when Xiaoshi was six and had sequentially learned the Piano, Violin, Guzheng, Pipa... dozens of Musical Instruments and achieved decent results in each, everyone thought he would pursue a career in music. One evening, he suddenly knocked on the door of Pei Yu’s study.
At six years old, Xiaoshi was already taller than most of his peers, his cheeks no longer as chubby as they were when he was three, showing the early signs of a handsome jawline, bright eyes, and a pronounced nose, growing more to resemble Pei Yu.
Cradling an antique Stradivarius violin that Pei Yu had recently acquired for him at an auction, he stood at the doorway of the study and said to his dad, "I don’t want to play the violin anymore, I want to design robots myself."
The Violin was the first Musical Instrument he had touched and was so far his most accomplished one. His teacher treated him like a favorite pupil and even asserted that with further training, he could definitely become a top-notch violinist.
However, two years had passed, and Xiaoshi’s interest was no longer as intense as when he started; he simply said he did not want to study it anymore.
Pei Yu looked up from his busy work, and after observing him for a while, nodded slightly, "Okay, I’ll hire a teacher for you later."
Thus, Xiaoshi left contentedly, still cradling the violin.
Shen Zhiyi came home that evening and couldn’t help but laugh, "That explains it. Two days ago, he and Jiaze took apart their favorite robot saying they would put it back together themselves, but those pieces have been lying there untouched for two days."
It was probably a setback that made him decide he wanted to thoroughly study it to redeem himself.
Pei Yu held her, not showing the same nonchalance he did in front of Xiaoshi, his brow slightly furrowed, "He’s too whimsical and lacks focus."
This was again very much like him; once he was done playing with something, he lost interest.
"So what?" Shen Zhiyi stroked his face, smoothing his furrowed brow, saying amusedly, "Isn’t he doing well in everything? What’s a six-year-old supposed to do if not play? It’s good being playful; don’t overthink it."
No one knew if Xiaoshi had just had a whim. The family quietly observed him for a few days and couldn’t figure anything out.
Xiaoshi was very intelligent, quickly absorbing the knowledge imparted by his teachers. The pile of robot parts in his room slowly diminished, and the day he managed to fully assemble the robot, he ran into the study to boast to Pei Yu while hugging a robot taller than himself.
"Dad! Look!"
Xiaoshi spun around with the robot in his arms, his expression excited.
Pei Yu was in a video meeting when he was abruptly interrupted. As those on the other end hesitated whether to pause the meeting, the camera turned, focusing on the extravagantly boasting child.
Unaware that others were watching, Xiaoshi excitedly said, "The teacher says I can build robots myself now! I want to make one even more advanced than this!"
The elites from the other side of the ocean started complimenting him, probably saying how amazing and intelligent the young master was.
Pei Yu leaned back in his chair, his face expressionless, "He’s only been learning for half a month."
The elites then lavished further praise and admiration.
Only then did Xiaoshi realize he had interrupted his dad’s meeting. Cradling the robot, he moved closer and politely greeted them in fluent, standard English, "Dad, you have your meeting first; I can wait until you’re finished."
He still hadn’t shared his thoughts with his dad.
While waiting, Xiaoshi sat on a nearby chair, occasionally glancing at the computer screen and listening to the meeting. He had seen this scene many times before, having been carried into the conference room by Pei Yu even when he was still in diapers. He understood many of the professional terms.
But there were also areas he didn’t understand.
He was a child with strong curiosity and a desire to explore. His parents provided him with complete freedom and ample material support, allowing him to immediately seize the opportunity to delve into any area he was interested in. This meant he didn’t have to worry about anything; if he was interested, he would make up his mind to explore that field.
He fiddled with the robot’s fingers, somewhat absent-mindedly.
After finishing the meeting, Pei Yu stretched out his hand towards him, "Come here."
Xiaoshi abandoned his robot and plunged into Pei Yu’s arms, skillfully clambered onto his lap, and looked at the computer screen, "Dad."
He looked up and said, "You looked so cool during the meeting."
Pei Yu: "..."
It immediately stirred up certain memories.
"You said a lot of things I didn’t understand, which felt really cool," Xiaoshi touched the keyboard, resolved, "Dad, I want to learn from you."
Pei Yu had always been a good father and a competent teacher. Xiaoshi had learned horse riding and archery from him, among many other things. But as Xiaoshi grew older and his interests became more diverse and bizarre, Pei Yu hired professional tutors for him and rarely taught him anything himself anymore.
This was the first time Xiaoshi had asked to learn from him.
Pei Yu tousled his soft hair, "Not playing with robots anymore?"
"I can dismantle and reassemble them," Xiaoshi shrugged, "it’s kind of boring now."
That was how he was; he was only interested in things he didn’t understand, things that were challenging.
Pei Yu: "My work is very tedious and complex, you’re still too young to learn it now."
There were so many aspects to the company that could not be covered by a single discipline alone. Even if he were to take over, it would still be a few more years.
Xiaoshi disagreed, believing he could excel at anything as long as he was willing to learn.
However, Pei Yu ultimately didn’t agree to it, thinking that the child was just momentarily enthused and would soon forget about this matter.
Indeed, that was the case. After completing his first robot, Xiaoshi announced his latest plan to everyone.
"I want to be an actor."
He announced this at dinner time, and everyone exchanged glances, shocked.
Especially Shen Zhiyi, she was stunned for a moment, incredulous, "Do you really want to be an actor?"
Because of her job, Xiaoshi had occasionally accompanied her to the set and was quite acquainted with acting, even learning quite a bit from directors, but he had never shown interest in performing before.
Xiaoshi gave his robot to his dad as a gift, then turned and threw himself into Shen Zhiyi’s arms, "Yes, I want to be an actor."
Shen Zhiyi and Pei Yu exchanged looks.
She asked patiently, "What made you suddenly think of this?"
"I think both your job and dad’s are very interesting. I want to experience your job first before learning from dad."
This was a decision Xiaoshi had made not long ago, hoping that his performance would make Pei Yu realize that his son was a genius capable of anything, and that age was not an issue at all.
