Chapter 206: Chapter 206: You Should Spoil Him the Most.
By this time, the baby’s features had subtly changed since birth. The facial features were more relaxed, and the big, dark, and bright eyes made it clear who he resembled.
Qin Xiaoran immediately smiled, "Shi Bao looks like Sister Zhiyi!"
She had been abroad to see her husband recently and hadn’t seen the baby for nearly a month. She thought he looked like Shen Zhiyi from the photos she had seen on her phone, and now she felt even more so. Everyone who had seen the baby thought he looked more like his mother.
Shen Zhiyi came down from upstairs, just in time to hear this, "The bridge of the nose resembles Pei Yu, but the eyes are more like mine."
The day the baby opened his eyes for the first time, Pei Yu had held him happily all day long, his wish finally fulfilled.
Qin Xiaoran asked with a smile, "Was Brother Pei Yu very happy?"
Probably the last person who wanted the child to look like him was Pei Yu himself.
Shen Zhiyi nodded, somewhat amused, "Actually, his mouth is a bit like his too, there are more features resembling him."
But the baby’s eyes were so beautiful that everyone first noticed his eyes and thought the child resembled her.
She took the baby from the nurse’s arms, "When I was pregnant with him, I felt that the baby would definitely be lively, and sure enough, he cries at the drop of a hat now, always needing someone around."
Shen Zhiyi never thought she’d have a high-need baby. She could hear his crying every day. He was okay when she held him, but as soon as she handed him to someone else, the baby would cry nonstop.
She was easily swayed by emotions, and during such times, she would want to take the baby back into her arms, but this made the baby even more clingy. Except for her, no one else could hold him. After seeing this a few times, Pei Yu stopped her from holding the baby too frequently. Whenever the baby cried, he would be the one to comfort him.
Upon hearing this, Qin Xiaoran was quite surprised, "I thought the baby was very well-behaved."
Possibly knowing he was being complimented, the baby waved his hands yah yah in Shen Zhiyi’s arms.
Shen Zhiyi laughed, "He only looks well-behaved. You have no idea how much he wears out his dad."
Pei Yu’s features were cold, especially when he was expressionless. Such an appearance was not very pleasing to children. Every time Pei Yu held the baby, he would cry even louder. Pei Yu would maintain a cold face while gently patting the baby to soothe him, often only stopping when the child cried himself to exhaustion.
So besides the eyes, this baby still looked more like Pei Yu, even inheriting the difficult temperament in full measure.
After the full-month banquet that day, the baby was coaxed to sleep, and Shen Zhiyi took the opportunity to browse through several scripts. She had been idle for too long and planned to start work as soon as possible in a few days.
As she was engrossed in reading, the baby’s cries came through, nonstop for more than ten minutes. The nurse had no other choice but to bring the child to Shen Zhiyi.
"Why are you such a crybaby," Shen Zhiyi sighed. Yet, looking at the child’s chubby face, she found him adorable and smiled at him, "Can we stop crying, okay?"
The scent of her reassured the baby, who gradually calmed down, his little hands opening and closing, playing with her hair.
Soon, the bathroom door opened, and Pei Yu walked out. He had hurried out after hearing the baby’s cries, clad only in a towel around his waist, his upper body lean and muscular. Seeing Shen Zhiyi holding the child, he frowned slightly.
He took the child from her, "I’ll hold him."
Shen Zhiyi had been too indulgent with Shi Bao previously, picking him up as soon as he cried, which exhausted her. Since then, Pei Yu had been very attentive to this.
The baby looked tiny in his arms, staring up at him with big eyes. He didn’t really like being held by Pei Yu, but crying was futile; it wouldn’t result in a change of arms. Having just cried, he was also tired now and his small hands fluttered, patting Pei Yu’s chest a few times.
The room was quiet except for the occasional cooing from the baby. Pei Yu cradled the baby in one arm, gently swaying him. Noticing the baby drooling, he frowned slightly in disgust, wiping with a handkerchief and quietly saying, "Messy little thing."
Shen Zhiyi watched, her eyes curving into a smile.
"Pei Yu, I want to hold him too."
Pei Yu looked up at her and smiled.
He carried the baby to the bed and reached out to her. Shen Zhiyi let him lead her into his embrace, where she tilted her head to play with the baby.
The baby was quite adorable when not crying, naturally endearing and prone to laughter, waving arms and kicking legs in a lively manner.
"I feel like he’ll definitely be mischievous when he gets older," Shen Zhiyi said, holding the baby’s hand and looking up at Pei Yu. "Do you think he’s not well-behaved enough?"
Pei Yu wasn’t a very patient person, nor was he particularly fond of children. Sometimes, Shen Zhiyi would watch him try to soothe the baby for half an hour without success, growing frustrated on his behalf, and she would wish the baby could be a little more behaved.
"Not at all," Pei Yu said, lowering his gaze and thinking for a moment before telling her, "The baby might cry a lot because of me; I was just like him when I was little."
Except, aside from the nanny, no one would soothe him.
Shen Zhiyi was startled, hearing him speak of this for the first time.
"So that’s how it is," she blinked, "I knew the baby took after you."
Pei Yu smiled soundlessly, his gaze serene, "Being like me isn’t good."
He wished every strand of the baby’s hair were like Shen Zhiyi.
"Who says," Shen Zhiyi touched the baby’s cheek, "Xiaoshi’s nose and mouth look a lot like you; how handsome."
She lifted her face and kissed Pei Yu’s lips lightly, "It’s good to be like you; if that’s the case, Xiaoshi won’t have to worry about looks."
Pei Yu pinched her chin, asking her to open her mouth, and then kissed her more deeply. The hand that held the baby shifted up to cover the baby’s face completely.
Perhaps feeling neglected, it didn’t take long for the baby to start crying.
Pei Yu looked down at him, this time genuinely feeling a bit annoyed.
"Tsk."
Unable to hold back a laugh, Shen Zhiyi nudged his shoulder. "You take him back."
In the middle of the night, the baby cried again, waking up a drowsy Shen Zhiyi, who tried to open her eyes. But hearing Pei Yu telling her to keep sleeping, she went back to sleep, feeling not entirely at ease and soon woke up again.
The room felt empty without him. Shen Zhiyi yawned and walked out to see Pei Yu standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window holding the baby and teasing him with a toy.
"Is he still not sleeping?" Shen Zhiyi approached and wrapped her arms around Pei Yu’s waist from behind.
Pei Yu’s voice was low, "He’s wide awake; he cries the second I put him down."
Shen Zhiyi peeked from behind his back, and when the baby saw her, he instantly smiled.
"Ah," she wanted to laugh and sigh, "He really knows how to wear us down."
"You go back to sleep," Shen Zhiyi glanced at the time, "He’ll fall asleep once he’s tired from crying."
"I’ll hold him a little longer," Pei Yu said, his brow and eyes lowered, looking very gentle.
Shen Zhiyi looked at him, "You say I spoil the baby, but you’re the worst offender."
Unwilling to let the baby cry, so rather than sleep, he would hold the baby through the night; he was far less principled than her.
Pei Yu just laughed, neither admitting nor denying it.
He did find it hard to bear the baby’s crying, as the baby resembled Shen Zhiyi so much.
