Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Chairman Pei in His Prime.
Shen Zhiyi’s suspicion wasn’t wrong; indeed, the man wasn’t some wealthy scion but merely a pretty face surviving on the patronage of a rich woman. That’s why he was utterly unfamiliar with Pei Yu’s face and subconsciously assumed he was the same kind of person, here to poach business.
His eyes wary, he said, "Sister, I feel the younger ones are better."
Although this man was excessively handsome, his gaze and demeanor were too detached—nothing like his own appealing, obedient younger brother vibe.
Shen Zhiyi just wanted him to stop talking.
The hand on her shoulder lifted to caress her face gently, and Pei Yu spoke in a low tone, void of any distinct emotion, "Like the younger ones, do you?"
Shen Zhiyi: "...No, not at all, impossible."
"How can you casually touch people like that," the man said, seeing that this competitor was quite responsive and not the aloof beauty he had imagined, his sense of crisis intensified as he seized the moral high ground, "That’s disrespectful to Sister!"
Pei Yu glanced over, his pupils deep black, his gaze icy. He chuckled softly, then suddenly cupped Shen Zhiyi’s face, forcing her to tilt back her head as he leaned down and kissed her hard.
It wasn’t a shallow peck; Shen Zhiyi’s lips were numb by the time he let her go. Pei Yu, with lowered eyes, wiped the moist trace from the corner of her lips, then looked up indifferently and countered, "So what if I do?"
The man was stunned; he had always played the nice younger brother role, and this wild turn of events was unexpected. Immediately, he turned his gaze to Shen Zhiyi, "Sister... you like this kind of thing?"
Shen Zhiyi didn’t want to answer, but Pei Yu’s hand was still on her face, his eyes dark with provocation as he picked up on the other man’s words, "Do you like it?"
"..." She had no choice but to reply bravely, "I do."
The man felt deeply affected. Good heavens, was his nice younger brother act no longer in vogue?
He glared angrily at Pei Yu, not willing to let a potential client be snatched away so easily, decided if he couldn’t have her, no one could, and said with a mournful tone, "Sister, but haven’t you already gotten married?"
Pei Yu raised his eyebrows as if he only just heard the news, uttering a phrase familiar to the others present.
He said, "I don’t mind."
Shen Zhiyi: "..."
Of course, you don’t mind; you’re the one involved.
The man, repeatedly frustrated, wore a sullen expression and, admitting defeat, left with his dignity intact, not forgetting to take the drink he had paid for.
Realizing the man had finally left, Shen Zhiyi breathed a sigh of relief, "I didn’t do anything."
She said innocently, "You can’t be mad at me over this."
Pei Yu stayed quiet, seeming somewhat listless, the chilling aura gone. He rested his face against her neck, sounding slightly displeased, "Am I that old?"
That man had stressed the age difference more than once.
"Not at all," Shen Zhiyi said with a smile, "Chairman Pei is in the prime of life."
Meanwhile, Qin Xiaoran, who had been enjoying herself, came back. Seeing Pei Yu, she felt like turning tail and running, but one can’t avoid their fate forever. With trepidation, she went over to greet him.
"Brother Pei Yu."
Shen Zhiyi tugged at Pei Yu’s sleeve, and he glanced at Qin Xiaoran indifferently, giving a detached acknowledgment, appearing to bear no grudge against her.
Qin Xiaoran had thought Pei Yu had come to confront someone but was surprised to see he seemed relatively calm, even interested enough to ask for a drink, signaling no intention of leaving immediately.
The drink was brought to Shen Zhiyi’s lips, she tasted it and found it a bit spicy, "It’s not good."
The cocktail tasted just as expected; Pei Yu took a few sips, held her in his arms, and whispered to her, briefing her on the wedding proceedings. The director they had hired for the engagement ceremony was naturally Director Meng. Duan Jiaze flew back early in the morning to be the little page boy, and everything had been arranged properly.
Qin Xiaoran sat around for a while and suddenly noticed that Wang Feifei and Xiaodong were unexpectedly joined by some men attempting to flirt. As for Shen Zhiyi, it went without saying; when she looked around, to her surprise, she was the only "single" one left.
After leaving the bar and returning to Huating, Shen Zhiyi nestled on the couch playing with her phone until she was suddenly pulled into a slightly cool embrace.
She looked up and pecked Pei Yu’s chin, "Why are you taking cold showers?"
"To cool down," Pei Yu confiscated her phone so that she would concentrate on kissing him, "We can’t have you getting tired today."
She would inevitably get tired at the wedding tomorrow, so Pei Yu didn’t want her to be too exhausted tonight; she needed to save her energy.
Shen Zhiyi’s eyes curved, and she increased the distance between them, "Does that mean we can’t kiss either?"
Pei Yu quietly looked at her for a moment, then calmly said, "That would be too pitiful for me."
Amused by his remark, Shen Zhiyi lay laughing on his chest, "If you feel uncomfortable later, you’ll have to deal with it yourself."
"Don’t I have you?" Pei Yu hinted as he kissed her palm, "Or are you saying you find me too old and don’t want to be close to me?"
He said this purely because he wanted Shen Zhiyi to coax him since the young man they met today was indeed quite young and rather cocky.
"Don’t talk nonsense," Shen Zhiyi knew he would be bothered by this, "I don’t think you’re old at all, and besides, there’s only a few years difference between us. If you talk about yourself like that, then do I also seem old to you?"
Caught in Shen Zhiyi’s logic, Pei Yu couldn’t continue to use this as a pretext to complain, he frowned and silently stared at her.
He didn’t truly want to complain; he wanted to hear sweet nothings from Shen Zhiyi. As his scheme failed, he felt a bit displeased.
"All right," Shen Zhiyi wrapped her arms around his neck, "Do you still want a kiss?"
Pei Yu looked down and kissed her deeply and heavily, as though to punish her for not saying enough loving words to pamper him today.
"We’re having our wedding tomorrow," Shen Zhiyi hugged his shoulders and couldn’t help but chuckle, "How can you still be so mushy, needing to hear sweet nothings every day, and you’re still disgruntled when they’re repeated."
She hadn’t racked her brains this much even when she was in school.
"You haven’t said enough," Pei Yu declared confidently, "You’re very stingy with me."
"Now you’re spouting nonsense," Shen Zhiyi began tallying with her fingers, "Who is it that needs to hear ’I love you’ every day, both morning and evening? Haven’t I said it every time? How is that being stingy?"
"It’s routine," Pei Yu was particularly picky, "The feelings are not fervent enough."
"Hey," Shen Zhiyi hit him playfully, pretending to be serious, "If you’re not satisfied, then from now on, even this routine won’t exist."
Pei Yu didn’t respond until he laid her on the bed, then he bit her chest slightly harder than usual, prompting a soft cry from her.
He asked casually, "So you’ll stop saying it from now on?"
"I’ll say it," Shen Zhiyi, not wanting to provoke him further and risk him leaving marks on her body, decided to stop while ahead.
"I love you," her eyes and brows arched with a gentle curve, "That’s for tonight."
She reached out to cradle Pei Yu’s face, then whispered in his ear again, "This one is a bonus, because Mr. Pei has been working very hard lately."
All the wedding arrangements had been handled by him personally, which must have taken a lot of effort. This sweet nothing was well-deserved by Pei Yu.
