Chapter 181: Chapter 181: Wedding Witness.

Shen Zhiyi was nervous attending such a formal movie awards ceremony for the first time, and it would be false to say otherwise. She had been slightly restless since getting her makeup done in the morning, but she didn’t show it.

When they arrived at the venue for the awards ceremony, it was time for Shen Zhiyi to part ways with Pei Yu. As she was leaving, he grasped her hand firmly. She turned her head and saw Pei Yu smile lightly at her and he kissed her fingers adorned with a ring, "There’s no need to be nervous."

"Is it that obvious?" Seeing that he had seen through her, Shen Zhiyi felt even more anxious.

"Not really," Pei Yu’s eyes carried a hint of amusement, "others can’t tell."

Shen Zhiyi then smiled at him, "Come pick me up in the evening."

The awards ceremony went much smoother than Shen Zhiyi had anticipated. She soon relaxed and mingles with director Meng and other directors and actors until the highlight of the evening arrived.

The movie had been in production for nearly half a year and was director Meng’s pride and joy. Winning awards was something he had expected, so when he received the trophy, he seemed quite composed. What Shen Zhiyi didn’t expect was that he mentioned her in his acceptance speech.

"I believe those who have seen this movie will be deeply impressed with my leading actress. Initially, when casting, I only had a vague concept in mind, which was that I needed to choose an actress that embodied the essence of Eastern beauty. Our country has many beauties, each with their own merits, but my leading actress is one of the most classic and graceful among them. She’s got tenacity, and she’s got spunk, and I’m very thankful she portrayed this character so splendidly."

After the news of the movie’s award broke out, there was an uproar online, with some criticisms directed at Shen Zhiyi. They claimed that the movie’s award was the merit of the script and the director, suggesting she had merely hitched a ride on a fast boat.

This particular award represented the movie as a whole and was not a specific appraisal or commendation of the actress herself, which gave many people an excuse to make a fuss.

Director Meng, a renowned director both domestically and internationally, gave Shen Zhiyi a high evaluation during the awards ceremony for his most esteemed work.

"Shen Zhiyi," he said with a slight smile facing the audience, "our leading actress is named Shen Zhiyi."

This was the movie’s awards ceremony, and Shen Zhiyi’s exclusive recognition would soon arrive.

"My leading actress is an excellent performer, flawless in every aspect," Director Meng shifted the tone of his speech, "except for one thing."

In a joking manner, he said, "Her family member is a bit of a handful."

Obviously, he was still holding a grudge.

Having had a bit to drink at the awards ceremony, Shen Zhiyi was slightly tipsy as she lifted her dress and walked out of the hall, facing the reporters and countless cameras on both sides of the road.

There were international fans waiting outside for her autograph. She signed for each one of them, posed for photos, and told them to head back early.

Doing so took another half an hour. By this time, the celebrities who attended the awards had mostly dispersed, and there were fewer reporters around, making the road quiet and empty.

It was only when Shen Zhiyi saw the darker water stains on the ground that she realized it had started to rain. She walked a few steps towards the car when the door opened, and Pei Yu got out, holding an umbrella. The black umbrella cast his entire figure into a silhouette against the night, and from afar, he looked at Shen Zhiyi, who stood still, waiting for him to come over.

The distance of a few meters took only seconds to cross. Shen Zhiyi tilted her head back with a smile, appearing somewhat naive— a side of her rarely seen.

Pei Yu looked down, the hand not holding the umbrella touched her cheek. "Very happy?"

"Yeah," his hand was warm, and Shen Zhiyi nuzzled her head against it before reaching out for a hug. She blinked slowly, "Happy."

The two stood quietly holding each other for a while until Pei Yu, noticing that her shoulders had become cool from the night breeze, took her hand, "It’s time to go back."

Shen Zhiyi nodded, took a few steps, and heard someone calling her name from behind. It was a fan she had encountered earlier.

She smiled towards the fan and waved her hand, but the hand she waved was the one interlocked with Pei Yu’s.

In the night, the two silver rings glistened with a faint light. Shen Zhiyi smiled, her cheeks flushed a charming pink, while beside her, only the tall and upright figure of Pei Yu could be seen under the umbrella, standing silently.

The fans didn’t get to see much longer as Shen Zhiyi was led by Pei Yu into the car.

The city on this rainy night seemed hazy everywhere, and Shen Zhiyi leaned against Pei Yu’s chest, her eyes dazzled by the various colored lights outside the window. She asked Pei Yu, "Did you watch the live broadcast of the award ceremony?"

"Mm," Pei Yu let down her long hair, which had been coiled up, his expression very indifferent, "Heard Director Meng speaking ill of me."

Shen Zhiyi laughed, "You really offended him."

Pei Yu didn’t express agreement or disagreement.

At that time, learning that Shen Zhiyi had been seriously injured due to an accident while filming, his entire being was on the verge of exploding, and naturally, his attitude toward Director Meng was very unkind.

If judging by the principle of respecting the elderly and loving the young, then Pei Yu admitted that he had indeed been a bit too much toward Director Meng.

Thinking of something, Shen Zhiyi turned her head and asked, "Should we invite Director Meng to our wedding?"

A wedding was different from an engagement banquet. She had seen the list of invitees Pei Yu had drafted; many distant acquaintances would attend, and how could she not invite Director Meng, who had been a benefactor to her.

But considering his attitude toward Pei Yu, inviting him would probably require some extra persuasion.

Shen Zhiyi took the initiative, "I’ll talk to him."

If she spoke, Director Meng would surely not make things difficult.

"No need," Pei Yu said, "I’ll do it."

Shen Zhiyi looked at him and felt like he had already thought of how to handle it, so she didn’t dwell on the matter any longer.

Pei Yu was very efficient. After returning to the hotel and while Shen Zhiyi was washing up, he called Director Meng.

Director Meng was drinking with a few friends and was surprised to receive his call, but he quickly guessed the purpose of it.

The wedding rings were already on; how could the wedding of these two be far off? He must be calling to invite him to the wedding.

Director Meng cleared his throat, feigning ignorance, and with a measured tone, asked, "What does Chairman Pei need from me?"

"I need a favor," Pei Yu’s tone sounded quite cold, not submissive as Director Meng had imagined. He said, "Zhiyi and I’s wedding lacks an officiator, and I was wondering if Director Meng could recommend someone."

Director Meng: "..."

He frowned, "An officiator? Am I not qualified to be your officiator? Who else are you looking for?"

Pei Yu replied calmly, "It would be great if Director Meng could come, but I was worried that you, a busy man, wouldn’t have the time."

Director Meng immediately said loudly, "Of course, I have the time! Don’t look for anyone else!"

This officiator role was his to take; he was the most suitable candidate.

Not long after hanging up the phone, Shen Zhiyi came out of the bathroom.

Pei Yu put down the phone and reported the outcome to her, "Director Meng has agreed."

"?"

Shen Zhiyi was surprised; had Director Meng agreed so easily?
