Chapter 180: Chapter 170 My Wedding Ring.
Directed by Meng, starring Shen Zhiyi, the news that the movie won an award at an overseas film festival was announced and, thanks to Wang Feifei’s arrangements, continued to occupy the top five trending topics online, giving it plenty of exposure and even promoting Meng’s work further.
When the hot search came out, Shen Zhiyi was still asleep, having received the notice from Meng the previous night that the movie had won an award; she was so excited that she couldn’t sleep until the early morning and was unaware of the flurry of marketing articles in circulation, nor did she pay it any mind.
When she woke up, she was still in Pei Yu’s arms. After his busy period, he had much more free time and had been nesting with her at Huating almost every day, making Qin Fang, who had been sent abroad by his own father, green with envy.
Seeing that he was still sleeping, Shen Zhiyi didn’t disturb him and reached for her phone to scroll through Weibo. She even reposted a promotional soft article from her studio. After posting, she checked the comments and realized she had grabbed the wrong phone, having used Pei Yu’s account to repost, but it didn’t really matter.
[Brother-in-law only seems alive at times like these.]
[Isn’t there a beautiful photo of Zhiyi? Just reposting lacks sincerity.]
[Is Zhiyi going to accept an award?]
Shen Zhiyi replied to a few comments. Perhaps her choice of words and the number of times she replied were too unlike Pei Yu, which tipped off the fans that something was amiss.
[This doesn’t seem like something brother-in-law would reply to...]
[Right, brother-in-law never uses kissy face emojis.]
[Is it Zhiyi?!]
Shen Zhiyi silently put the phone down.
The screen hadn’t gone dark when a message from Secretary Qin popped up. Shen Zhiyi hadn’t intended to read it, but a casual glance gave her the gist of the message.
She picked up the phone again.
Secretary Qin’s message was asking Pei Yu if he needed to buy more trending spots, as there were quite a few domestic directors participating in the film festival, and several had won awards. Celebrities were all marketing aggressively, making trending positions highly competitive.
Shen Zhiyi: "No need, don’t waste the money."
She didn’t even know what all those purchased trending spots were for.
This tone was obviously not Pei Yu’s, and Secretary Qin replied promptly.
"Okay, Madam."
Shen Zhiyi: "..."
It seemed like ever since the day after Pei Yu’s birthday, everyone had tacitly changed their address, and their adept and natural manner led Shen Zhiyi to suspect they must have practiced privately; otherwise, why would she be the only one feeling awkward?
The message notification sound woke Pei Yu, but without opening his eyes, he just pulled Shen Zhiyi closer, "What’s up?"
"Nothing," Shen Zhiyi, held in his embrace, touched his face, "I used your phone by mistake."
"Hmm," Pei Yu seemed not really listening and apparently didn’t mind, "Stay with me a little longer."
It wasn’t until the afternoon that Shen Zhiyi found time for other things. Looking at the more than twenty sets of haute couture and custom-made gowns, as well as the luxurious jewelry, she felt a headache coming on.
"Do I have to try all of these on?"
This time was different from the usual; half of the gowns and jewelry were prepared by the butler. Wang Feifei was not needed, and the butler seemed quite enthusiastic about it.
She nodded, "It’s better to try them all."
For the film festival, she needed to prepare two dresses, besides that, there are three more for the engagement, and Shen Zhiyi could only be relieved that the wedding was a month away, so she didn’t have to try on wedding dresses yet.
Just trying on clothes took up an entire afternoon, and by the end of it, Shen Zhiyi was too tired to move. Pei Yu came over to hold her, and she limply let him, resting on his shoulder and sighing, "I don’t want to deal with any other engagement stuff."
"You didn’t have to deal with it anyway," Pei Yu smoothed her long hair, "I’ll take care of it."
The date was already set, and there wasn’t a need for many guests. On Zhiyi’s side, there were only a few people like Xiaodong, and Pei Yu’s side wasn’t much better, making this engagement banquet much simpler compared to others.
He said she didn’t need to worry, so Shen Zhiyi took it seriously and didn’t fret at all. Apart from an afternoon when the housekeeper called her to sample the engagement banquet menu, she didn’t bother with anything else and focused all her energy on the film award ceremony before the engagement banquet.
The award ceremony was held abroad, and Shen Zhiyi went over a day early with Director Meng and a few other lead actors, also accepting interviews from several foreign media outlets.
The host asked about her personal life in a very friendly manner at the end and curiously inquired about the ring on her finger, praising it for its uniqueness.
Shen Zhiyi mentioned a designer’s name, "My wedding ring."
That’s what she said.
It was actually quite strange. It was just an ordinary silver ring, without any diamonds or other precious elements. Both she and Pei Yu had the means to want something more lavish, more expensive, but they had specifically chosen this one.
The host seemed surprised upon hearing the designer’s name, and her gaze towards the ring changed instantly. She did not know what the ring meant to the couple about to be married, and could only understand its exceptional nature through the status of the designer. That was actually the result Pei Yu wanted—he was stingy about revealing the ring’s meaning to others, yet he didn’t want it to be overlooked, so he showed off its rarity and specialty to the public in this way.
Perhaps it was because Zhiyi understood Pei Yu’s deeper intentions that she explained it that way to outsiders.
"I thought you were still single," the host said with a smile, "You’re still very young and don’t look like someone willing to step into marriage so quickly."
Shen Zhiyi curved her lips, her radiant and relaxed features were a beauty anyone could appreciate. She seemed serene and reserved when silent, yet very lively when she smiled.
"I’m willing," she said, "We missed out on so many years, and don’t want to wait any longer."
It seemed like there was a very long story behind her words. The host wanted to continue asking, but Shen Zhiyi just smiled and shook her head, refusing to say more.
In this regard, she was just as stingy as Pei Yu.
After the interview ended and she went back to the hotel, the dress she needed for the next day had already been delivered. As she had done many times, Shen Zhiyi changed her clothes while calling Pei Yu, but behind her, a familiar ringtone sounded.
She immediately laughed, "You came so early?"
This was the first valuable award in Shen Zhiyi’s career, and it seemed like the people around her cared more about it than she did, Pei Yu included. He had planned to accompany her to the ceremony early on, even though Zhiyi thought he would not arrive until the next day.
The zipper of the dress behind her was slowly undone, Pei Yu had not yet spoken, but his kiss had already landed.
"Missed you."
Shen Zhiyi’s eyes curved into a smile, "I haven’t even been away for a day."
Pei Yu always said such things, as if he really couldn’t be apart from Shen Zhiyi. Yet his expression was indifferent, and his tone even, making it unclear whether he was speaking sincerely or just being affectionate to make Shen Zhiyi get used to worrying about him during every future separation.
He slightly curved his lips, "Is that so? But it feels like it’s been a long time."
The more time they spent together, the longer the separation felt to him afterward.
