Chapter 173: Chapter 173 This is to protect the marriage fate.

Because they couldn’t delay the shooting, Shen Zhiyi flew back to the country the next afternoon, and Pei Yu had a bit more to do, so he didn’t come back with her.

She took his private jet and landed directly on the helipad at Huating; it was just dawn in the country. The butler had been waiting there for a while, and seeing that she seemed to be in a good mood, he also smiled slightly.

"Why didn’t you stay there a few more days?"

"I still have to shoot," Shen Zhiyi walked onto the lawn; the temperature was lower domestically, and she wrapped herself tighter in her coat, "Has Xiaodong already arrived?"

"He’s waiting in the living room," the butler draped a thick coat over her, which seemed to belong to Pei Yu and was faintly scented with agarwood, "Are you starting work now?"

"Not starting work," Shen Zhiyi smiled, "I need to go to the temple first to pray for blessings."

The film crew experienced many ups and downs, and the director was superstitious, so they decided to take a few of the leading actors to the mountain to pray for blessings, hoping that Bodhisattva would bless their upcoming shooting to proceed smoothly.

"Does your director believe in Buddhism?"

"Not only that," Shen Zhiyi thought it was funny, "He believes a bit of everything, just for peace of mind."

The temple where they prayed for blessings was famous far and wide. Due to the large number of visitors, it was very prosperous, and there were many places selling incense and Buddha Amulets.

After offering incense with the director, they heard from the monks that there was a Merit Pool where they could light Ever-Bright Lamps, so the group stayed a while longer.

"Who would you like to dedicate a lamp for?"

Shen Zhiyi lowered her eyes and took the piece of paper the monk handed to her. She had no parents, siblings, or even particularly close friends, so it seemed there was no one for whom to dedicate a lamp.

Under the monk’s gaze, she slowly wrote down a name on the paper.

After reading it, the monk looked up at her several times, as if surprised, and hesitated before asking, "Is your family name Shen?"

Shen Zhiyi looked up, "Yes, why do you ask?"

The monk, being withdrawn from worldly affairs and indifferent to the entertainment industry, except knowing that this group of visitors were celebrities, was not aware of their specific identities and thus it was surprising for Shen Zhiyi when he mentioned her last name.

The monk smiled, "The person for whom you’re dedicating this lamp, also dedicated an Ever-Bright Lamp for you a few years ago."

The ink on the paper wasn’t dry yet, Shen Zhiyi paused for a moment, then asked softly, "Was it Pei Yu?"

"Yes, Mr. Pei," the monk nodded towards her, "Please follow me."

Seeing Shen Zhiyi’s confusion, he explained, "Several years ago, our temple had raised funds once to repair the rear hall. Mr. Pei just happened to come to the mountain and funded the remaining part, at the same time dedicating an Ever-Bright Lamp in the Lamp Pool."

Because he was beside him at the time, he knew for whom Pei Yu had written on that piece of paper, but what really made a deep impression was for another reason.

"That was many years ago," the monk led Shen Zhiyi into an inner hall with a Lamp Pool that had far fewer lamps than outside, "The temple’s Ever-Bright Lamp is only dedicated for one year; if you want to continue, you need to keep renewing. Mr. Pei has never visited since then, but he donates charity yearly to maintain this Ever-Bright Lamp."

Continuing for several years was rare even in their temple, thus he always remembered this lamp, remembered this name.

In the Lamp Pool, there were only a few lamps; Shen Zhiyi took hers to see, inside the paper was very old and the handwriting had faded quite a bit.

She didn’t know what Pei Yu was thinking when he came to dedicate this lamp for her those many years ago, just as she didn’t quite understand her own feelings now, feeling only that her heart was sour and tender.

Pei Yu, oh Pei Yu, always doing far more than he says.

"Please help me place my lamp here as well," Shen Zhiyi smiled faintly, "next to this one."

Coming out of the temple, Shen Zhiyi also bought a few Buddha Amulets; they weren’t finely crafted but had good symbolism.

Xiaodong received a Buddha Amulet, but he couldn’t understand the cursive traditional characters on it.

"What does this protect?"

Shen Zhiyi put away the other amulets, "It grants you wealth soon."

Xiaodong immediately laughed, "Thank you, Sister Zhiyi, you know me so well!"

There wasn’t much happening today. Shen Zhiyi and a few lead actors had a script reading session with the director and had dinner together afterward, finishing before it was dark.

Pei Yu sent a message, telling her he was already on the plane and would arrive the next morning.

She responded to Pei Yu’s message, and after returning to Huating, she gave away the Buddha Amulets she brought back to the housekeeper and others, mostly for safety and wealth protection.

To have time to meet Pei Yu before leaving, Shen Zhiyi asked the director for a short leave and rescheduled her shooting to the afternoon, freeing up her morning.

Although the shooting was postponed, she did not want to hinder the progression of the filming. Shen Zhiyi spent the evening studying the script and memorizing her lines, striving to keep the next day’s shooting efficient and direct.

She slept late that night, and consequently, woke up late the next day. Pei Yu arrived while she was still asleep. Although he had washed and changed his clothes, she remained deeply asleep.

Even though it was just a day since they last saw each other, Pei Yu missed her terribly and wanted to hold her, even if it meant getting into bed while not sleepy, just to be with her a while longer.

It seemed there was something under the pillow. When Pei Yu lay down, something poked him. He picked it up to look at it but couldn’t make out what it was since the curtains were drawn and the lights were off.

"Pei Yu?" Shen Zhiyi moved slightly and slowly opened her eyes, still heavy with sleep. From under the covers, she reached out a hand toward him, asking him to hold her.

As he held her in his arms, Pei Yu kissed her warm cheek and asked, holding the object, "What is this?"

Shen Zhiyi glanced at it, then buried her face in his neck and muttered softly, "Buddha Amulet."

"Did you go to a temple?" Pei Yu was unaware that she had gone to the temple to pray with the director, and was quite surprised since Shen Zhiyi didn’t usually believe in such things.

"Hmm," Shen Zhiyi wrapped her arms around his waist and smiled with her eyes squinting, then said the temple’s name.

Indeed, Pei Yu seemed to recall the place, hesitated for a moment, then looked down at her.

Shen Zhiyi blinked and met his gaze knowingly, "What’s wrong?"

"Did you know?" Pei Yu, reading something from her face, spoke softly, "Did you see the lamp I dedicated for you?"

He too didn’t believe in these things, but happened to visit the temple once and saw the Lamp Pool, full of lamps, each representing someone’s care.

When a monk asked if he would like to dedicate a lamp for someone, Shen Zhiyi was the only person that came to Pei Yu’s mind. Without much thought, he dedicated one to her.

Since then, he’d made annual donations, hoping the lamp, like its intended meaning, would continue to burn bright indefinitely.

Hoping she would have a healthy, long life.

"I saw it," Shen Zhiyi said, "I dedicated one for you too."

She picked up the amulet, "This is for protecting our union."

Neither Shen Zhiyi nor Pei Yu lacked wealth. They also had an Ever-Bright Lamp for safety. After much reflection, Shen Zhiyi sought a good marital match.

She had already found the best person for herself; now, she just hoped for fewer complications and surprises in the future.
