Chapter 172: Chapter 172: What Else Are You Hiding From Me?

The room was very warm, and after crying for a while, Shen Zhiyi felt hot, so she changed into the nightgown she had brought and was carried out of the bathroom by Pei Yu after she had washed up.

She was a bit tired from crying and lay on Pei Yu’s shoulder, not wanting to move, yet she wasn’t sleepy, softly gazing at his slightly blurred silhouette under the dim night light."

Pei Yu lay beside her, gently stroking her cheek with his palm. His palm bore scars and was uneven, which tickled Shen Zhiyi. She grabbed his hand and played with his fingers.

Her voice was still a bit hoarse from crying, "Is there anything else you’re keeping from me?"

Pei Yu was a deep thinker, prone to complicating things; thus, many things he should have shared, he kept secret. Although Shen Zhiyi wasn’t angry, she didn’t want him holding onto those secrets alone.

"No," Pei Yu answered quickly, as if he had never considered being fully transparent with Shen Zhiyi—until he looked up and met her calm gaze, paused slightly, and silently chuckled, "There is one thing."

"I knew it," Shen Zhiyi glared at him. He really was too much. If she didn’t ask, he certainly wouldn’t tell, and she would have to wait forever to find out on her own, "Spill it."

Not giving him an out, she pressed her upper body onto him and pinched his earlobe forcefully, "What else have you hidden from me?"

Pei Yu chuckled under his breath, letting her ’punish’ him, then slowly said, "Do you remember when I asked you if you were sure it wasn’t Huo Heng who saved you back then?"

Mentioning Huo Heng under these circumstances was different from every other time, leaving Shen Zhiyi momentarily stunned, unable to comprehend.

"You..." she said in disbelief, "Are you saying Huo Heng lied to me? Was it you who saved me?"

Back then, she had hit her head, not only was her mind foggy, but her vision was also blurred. Before passing out, she only saw a vague figure. Since the person she saw when she woke up was Huo Heng, she naturally assumed he was her savior, never considering any other possibilities, especially since Huo Heng had admitted to it.

Pei Yu silently chuckled, affirming her guess.

Shen Zhiyi was silent for a while, then suddenly climbed out of bed, "Do you have Huo Heng’s number?"

"What?" Pei Yu was surprised, pulling down her nightgown that had crept up to her thighs, "Why suddenly look for him?"

Shen Zhiyi scoffed, "He has kept this from me for so long, I need to ask him about it."

Pei Yu was silent for a moment. He could certainly find Huo Heng’s contact information; not only that, but he also knew exactly where Huo Heng was living, what he was doing, and made sure he could never return to the country.

But now that Shen Zhiyi wanted to contact him, Pei Yu was somewhat reluctant.

For whatever reason, he did not want Shen Zhiyi to reconnect with Huo Heng anymore.

"You know, don’t you?" Shen Zhiyi flung herself into his arms, looking up at him, "You definitely know."

"I do," Pei Yu looked down at her, and after a while, he reluctantly compromised and had Secretary Qin send over Huo Heng’s current contact details.

Secretary Qin was quick; it wasn’t long before the mobile number was sent over.

"So he’s also in the United States," Shen Zhiyi dialed the number using Pei Yu’s phone.

Since it was late at night, the first call wasn’t answered. Pei Yu thought Shen Zhiyi would give up, but she quickly dialed a second time.

He waited expressionlessly by her side.

Deep into the night, Huo Heng was sound asleep. These days, he was busy networking, seeking opportunities to perform abroad as he couldn’t make it domestically. He aimed to broaden his international market, but frequent setbacks led him to drown his troubles in drink.

The phone kept ringing, worried it might be a producer trying to contact him, he picked it up the second it rang again.

The voice on the other end was familiar yet cold.

"Huo Heng."

Huo Heng instinctively glanced at the screen, feeling as if he was dreaming. He never thought he would hear Shen Zhiyi’s voice again in his lifetime.

Moved, and even hopeful, he assumed that Shen Zhiyi had called to forgive him.

"Zhiyi—"

Once she confirmed it was Huo Heng, Shen Zhiyi didn’t beat around the bush.

"Was it really you who saved me back then? Huo Heng, do you really have an injury on your waist that you got because of me?"

Huo Heng was instantly stunned. "Zhiyi, I—"

"Bastard," Shen Zhiyi’s voice was cold, "Huo Heng, you’re such a jerk, deceiving me with such a thing for so many years. I’ve only just realized how hypocritical you are."

She had called just to scold him, and after saying that, she hung up and promptly blocked his number.

The call hadn’t even lasted five minutes, and Huo Heng had been scolded without getting a chance to say anything.

"Here," Shen Zhiyi handed the phone back to Pei Yu, her face expressionless with anger.

"You hid such a big thing from me too?"

Although she had grown up with Huo Heng, Shen Zhiyi really started treating him as family from the moment he saved her. She never imagined anyone else standing in front of her, so when she found out it was Huo Heng protecting her, she decided to treat him well for a lifetime.

If it wasn’t for that incident, she wouldn’t have willingly let Huo Heng use her; much of what she did was in gratitude.

"I was wrong," Pei Yu could tell she was truly angry. He didn’t offer a single excuse, just admitted his mistake, "Don’t be mad."

There was a barely noticeable smile in his eyes, "Turns out our Zhizhi can also scold people."

If it was just to scold Huo Heng, then Pei Yu felt the call just now wasn’t really a big deal.

"Scolding him won’t help," Shen Zhiyi was not very pleased, "I’ve already been deceived."

Thinking how she had mistaken all the credit due to Pei Yu for Huo Heng and devoted herself to him for so many years made her feel very upset.

"Not even knowing to claim your own credit," Shen Zhiyi bit Pei Yu’s lower lip, "So stupid."

Pei Yu, having never been called stupid before, laughed resignedly and didn’t argue back.

Shen Zhiyi was angry for a while, but then she felt sorry for Pei Yu and picked up his injured hand to examine it carefully.

"When you came back that time, not only were you allergic and injured, you were also beaten by your dad," Shen Zhiyi’s voice grew softer as she spoke, kissing his palm, "Pei Yu, how pitiful."

Yet his credit was stolen and she had completely forgotten him, leaving Pei Yu with nothing.

"It’s not important," Pei Yu clasped his hand, never regretting what he had done, "Even if it wasn’t for you, the relationship with my father wouldn’t have been good anyway."

Pei Yu always felt his father held a strange attitude toward him, as if he was highly regarded yet also disliked, and Pei Yu believed he would never fully hand over the Pei Family unless he held the upper hand.

"He’s not a good father," Shen Zhiyi thought of her own situation and laughed briefly, "Neither of us has a decent father."

Pei Yu watched her quietly for a while, then lowered his gaze to kiss her lips.

"It’s okay."

They still had each other.
