Chapter 156: Chapter 156: More Attractive Than Him.
Because Shen Zhiyi had specifically mentioned it, Wang Feifei sent over several scripts the next day.
"I’ve selected these," Wang Feifei said on the phone, "There’s a script that you should like, it’s also a big production. If you’re interested, we can go audition."
She did understand Shen Zhiyi’s preferences. After going through the scripts, Shen Zhiyi picked the one from the big production Wang Feifei had mentioned.
"Sis," Shen Zhiyi didn’t hesitate and messaged her directly, "I want to audition for the role of the second female lead. When is the audition date?"
The role of the second female lead was more complex and challenging compared to the lead. Shen Zhiyi had never played a similar role before and wanted to give it a try.
"Let me check," Wang Feifei knew she would choose that one, "Next week. You still have time to practice the audition scenes. There are many people who want this role, and basically, there is no chance for a second audition."
So it was necessary to be well-prepared.
Shen Zhiyi just so happened to have no work arrangements these few days, so she took the script back to Huating and pondered over it constantly.
When Pei Yu came home, he saw her reading the script on the sofa, so engrossed that she didn’t even notice his return.
He didn’t disturb her, went to the kitchen to pour a glass of water, and asked the butler who was preparing dinner, "Did she skip lunch today?"
"Yes," the butler had told Pei Yu this news at noon, but he hadn’t had the chance to see it then, "She got up late today, had a brunch, and I prepared some pastries for afternoon tea, but she was so engrossed in the script that she didn’t eat anything, just had a coffee."
She had eaten so little all day that the butler was worried and decided to advance the dinner time.
Pei Yu remained silent, and after a while, when dinner was ready, he called her.
"Dinner’s ready."
Shen Zhiyi didn’t look up and scribbled a few lines in the script, "I’m not hungry, you guys go ahead and eat."
She had just finished speaking when Pei Yu took the script away, glanced over the content, "Preparing for an audition?"
"Yes," Shen Zhiyi reached out to get the script back. The audition was in a few days, and with the role being complex, she couldn’t feel at ease without fully understanding the character, "I’ll read it a little more."
Pei Yu tossed the script aside, grabbed her wrist, and scooped her up directly toward the dining table, "Want the role, wouldn’t asking me be faster?"
Shen Zhiyi was amused by his words and stopped struggling, "Chairman Pei is so arrogant. Do you mean you’ll invest in whatever film I act in?"
"Why not?" Pei Yu set her down on a chair and leaned in to kiss her lips, "After all, Miss Shen has a good eye, and the scripts you choose are always good, which only makes me double my money back."
"Flattering me won’t work," Shen Zhiyi pushed him away, "Don’t interfere, this film already has investors lined up, and if I want to act, I need to audition."
Pei Yu sighed softly near her ear, "Starving yourself just for an audition?"
"It’s not that dramatic," Shen Zhiyi chuckled, although she sometimes missed meals when engrossed in a script, she was never to the point of starving, "I just missed one meal."
Pei Yu was unmoved, and tapped his fingers on the table, "Promise me, no next time."
The butler came out with the dishes, casting a discreet glance their way.
Shen Zhiyi felt embarrassed. Was Pei Yu really making her promise over such a small matter, treating her like a child?
However, seeing that Pei Yu was not joking at all, she had to compromise and hooked her finger around his, "Alright, I promise."
Pei Yu looked down, his eyebrows slightly raised, "No stamp?"
After the butler had returned to the kitchen and seeing no one caring about this side, Shen Zhiyi beckoned Pei Yu closer and, once he was near, she kissed him firmly on the face.
"Is that good enough?"
"Wrong spot," Pei Yu tapped her lips with a smile clearly displayed, "It should be here."
"Mr. Pei," Shen Zhiyi removed his fingers, "don’t overstep."
"Okay then," Pei Yu easily agreed, "as you wish."
After dinner, Pei Yu had some work to deal with and insisted that Shen Zhiyi keep him company, with a simple reason.
"From the moment I left this morning until now," Pei Yu pointed at his wristwatch, "we haven’t spent more than an hour together in the same space."
Shen Zhiyi: "...It’s only seven o’clock now."
It’s not like they could only spend an hour together in a day.
Pei Yu said nothing, just gazed at her quietly with lowered eyes.
"...Then I’ll keep you company for a while longer."
Because she needed full concentration when reading her script, having Pei Yu around was a distraction, so Shen Zhiyi didn’t bring her script to the study. While Pei Yu worked, she played with her phone. Yet, that wasn’t enough for him; he had to hold her in his arms.
"Won’t I distract you from your work?" Shen Zhiyi felt he wasn’t really working at all.
Feeling uneasy and anxious to read her script, she fidgeted while sitting on Pei Yu’s lap. He pulled her closer, "If you don’t keep moving around, I can totally concentrate."
Shen Zhiyi muttered softly, "If you weren’t holding me, I wouldn’t be moving around."
"Hmm?" Pei Yu picked up a signing pen, said expressionlessly, "Now I’m not even allowed to hold you?"
"You’re taking my words out of context," Shen Zhiyi leaned on his shoulder and tugged at his shirt collar, "deliberately misinterpreting what I mean."
Nobody said he couldn’t hold her; it’s just who else hugged so much while working? Certainly, no serious person did that.
As he caressed her slender back, Pei Yu smiled quietly, "My comprehension abilities are quite poor, so please, Miss Shen, don’t speak ambiguously; it makes me sad."
Shen Zhiyi stared at him for a few seconds, then called him out, "Mr. Pei’s comprehension might be poor, but his acting skills exceed even mine as an actress."
Pretending to be sad was more like it.
At this point, Pei Yu genuinely laughed, "Probably influenced by Miss Shen."
"Ha," Shen Zhiyi poked his shoulder, "Now you start shirking responsibility, framing me! You were naturally gifted at it."
Pity she only saw that clearly now.
Pei Yu signed off on a document, casually put down the pen, and curled his lips, "Thanks for the compliment."
Shen Zhiyi: "...I wasn’t complimenting you."
Seeing Pei Yu chatting with her while still managing his work without any delay, she felt envious, "I want to work too; I need to read my script."
Why should she be the only one wasting time?
"Two hours," Pei Yu, unable to resist her, found another angle for his advantage, "the rest of the time is mine."
"Okay," Shen Zhiyi jumped out of his arms and dashed out so hurriedly she might not have even heard his words, leaving only her eager figure retreating.
Pei Yu looked at the documents, chuckling lightly.
Fine, very fine, those few pages of paper were more attractive than this living person.
