Chapter 132: I Don’t Like Competing for Attention.

More than three months had passed since the start of filming, and the shoot was gradually coming to an end. The male lead had finished all his scenes ahead of schedule, and the crew had booked a private room to celebrate for him, so they wrapped up early before it even got dark.

Shen Zhiyi removed her makeup to find several conspicuous kiss marks on the side of her neck, which she had to cover up again. Thinking about last night’s absurdity made her want to get angry. He left so many marks, she didn’t dare look the makeup artist in the eye while getting her makeup done today.

And to think that man had flown out of town for a business trip before dawn, not even giving her the chance to vent her anger.

With this in mind, Shen Zhiyi glanced at her phone. Her chat history with him was still lingering from the morning. He had left breakfast and a note when he left, briefly mentioning the things he would be busy with, but back then, she had just woken up and, upon seeing all the marks on her body in the mirror, had stubbornly ignored him.

He was probably too busy to send any other messages.

Lost in thought, her phone rang—it was Duan Jiaze.

The page buffered for two seconds, and Duan Jiaze’s chubby little face appeared on the screen.

Feeling an inexplicable sense of déjà vu, Shen Zhiyi hadn’t even had time to ponder when Duan Jiaze started to shout excitedly.

"Auntie! Auntie!"

"Ah," Shen Zhiyi remembered. Duan Jiaze had called her in the early hours of the day; it was Pei Yu who had told him to call her that. She couldn’t help but smile, "Mhm, are you having lunch?"

"Yeah," Duan Jiaze had just come home from school, eager to continue yesterday’s conversation, "Auntie, when will you and Uncle have a baby? Can you tell me when you do?"

Shen Zhiyi: "...I don’t know either."

Did Pei Yu teach him this too?

Not wanting to discuss such topics with a child, Shen Zhiyi steered the conversation elsewhere, "Were you scolded by your uncle when you called this morning?"

"Yes!" Duan Jiaze seemed to have found an ally, nodding vigorously before saying with a touch of gloom, "Uncle said you were sleeping, Auntie, why are you willing to sleep with Uncle now? Did he buy you something you like?"

The child’s thinking was simple; he himself would be very happy to receive gifts and would completely forget how Pei Yu had bullied him, thinking Shen Zhiyi must feel the same. The uncle must have given her lots and lots of presents for her to warm up to him so quickly. He felt a bit envious.

Not quite sure how to explain to him, Shen Zhiyi replied, "Didn’t you ask me to be nicer to your uncle?"

"I didn’t mean it that way," Duan Jiaze slapped his own face, feeling a bit guilty, "I think you should be meaner to Uncle, he’s been a bit too smug."

Shen Zhiyi was amused by his remarks, "Your Chinese has improved so much."

He could even use the word "smug" now.

"It’s because Uncle arranged a Chinese tutor for me," Duan Jiaze made a pained face, "Chinese is so hard to learn!"

Why did he have to learn three languages? It was frightening.

But the thought that he could use Chinese to attack his uncle after learning it made him feel it was still worth it, at least it could reduce the chances of being tricked by Pei Yu.

Xiaodong was knocking on the door. Shen Zhiyi picked up her coat to leave, "I can’t talk now, I have to go to the wrap party."

He didn’t understand what a wrap party was, but Duan Jiaze had a grasp of banquets, "Uncle will also attend the banquet, are you going to the same one?"

"Pei Yu?" Shen Zhiyi thought Pei Yu was still out of town at the moment, "No, we’re not in the same place."

"Not in the same place?" Duan Jiaze was also not quite sure. He had just called Pei Yu and Secretary Qin had answered, telling him Pei Yu was busy before hanging up. He nodded, "Alright, but Auntie, you should be careful."

Sneaking a glance to the side and seeing that his mother wasn’t watching him, Duan Jiaze quickly said, "My mom says there are many people who want to be my auntie. You should be careful not to let someone steal Uncle away."

Children’s comments always come from what they hear from adults. Shen Zhiyi felt somewhat displeased upon hearing this, not against anyone in particular. Duan Jiaze’s words were things she already understood. Before, such words only made her feel a slight sense of loss, but now it was different, she had an indescribable feeling.

She pushed open the door, and Xiaodong, seeing that she was on the phone, didn’t make a sound. He took her bag and went to the side to message the driver.

"If your uncle could be stolen so easily, then I wouldn’t want him anyway," she said.

"Huh?" Duan Jiaze found it hard to understand, "Why? If someone tried to steal my airplane model, I would definitely fight to protect it. Nobody could take it from me!"

"What you’re talking about is your toy," Shen Zhiyi said softly, "Your uncle isn’t a toy."

After a pause, she continued, not very cheerfully, "I don’t like competing with others."

"I think it’s all the same," Duan Jiaze said, not quite understanding, but he roughly grasped the meaning of Shen Zhiyi’s words. It meant that if someone tried to steal his uncle, Shen Zhiyi would no longer want his uncle. Gosh, that was frightening. He didn’t want to change his auntie at all, "Auntie~"

He whined childishly, "Auntie, auntie~"

Alas, Uncle might not be so admirable, it was better for him to whine and act cute to cajole his auntie. Maybe Auntie would stay for his sake, Duan Jiaze thought to himself contentedly.

"What’s up?" Shen Zhiyi thought he was just playing and smiled. Seeing the driver bring the car around, she said, "I really can’t talk now, you better go eat."

While they were having lunch there, it was time for her to have dinner here. The lead actor left first with Director Meng, and Shen Zhiyi shared a ride with the screenwriter. When they arrived, it was just getting dark, and the last bit of bright daylight had completely faded away.

A wrap party is never short of alcohol, and Shen Zhiyi couldn’t escape either. To avoid drinking too much, she planned to slip away to the restroom in the middle. She ran into the second female lead of the crew, and they exchanged a knowing smile, aware that the other was also looking to dodge the drinks.

"Let’s go this way, we don’t want to bump into Director Meng," the actress pulled Shen Zhiyi along a detour, "I’m familiar with this place, there’s a restroom at the end of this corridor."

She walked ahead, chatting with Shen Zhiyi as they went along. Mid-sentence, the actress paused, blocking the way, and gestured at Shen Zhiyi to be quiet, then pointed ahead.

Looking in the direction of her pointing, on the small balcony off the corridor, the silhouettes of a man and a woman were faintly visible, standing very close to each other.

From a distance, with the lighting dim, their faces were not clear. The actress was purely interested in the spectacle, pulling Shen Zhiyi to stop and whisper, "Let’s watch the fun for a bit before we go."

When a man and a woman are alone together, there could be a story worth watching.

Shen Zhiyi wasn’t interested in other people’s business, nor did she like eavesdropping. Normally, she would certainly have taken another route, but this time she stood still without moving.

The actress didn’t recognize them, but Shen Zhiyi could not be more familiar with Pei Yu’s figure. Even just glancing at him from such a distance, she couldn’t be mistaken.

But she didn’t know who the woman standing with Pei Yu was.
