Chapter 100: Chapter 100 Aunt doesn’t miss you at all.

Shen Zhiyi brought Duan Jiaze with her to work the next day, Xiaodong snatched a bag of chips from the child’s mouth, informing him that he had reached today’s three-bag limit, Duan Jiaze didn’t understand, but he knew it meant he couldn’t eat any more, and plaintively turned his gaze towards Shen Zhiyi.

As soon as he looked at her like that, Shen Zhiyi’s heart softened, and she too turned to look at Xiaodong, both big and small without a hint of resemblance, yet equally talented in making people feel tender-hearted.

Xiaodong: "...This is the last packet."

Watching Duan Jiaze joyfully hug the chips, Xiaodong sighed, "You should rest a few more days, why are you so eager to get back to work?"

It wasn’t easy to get a few extra days off because of the injury, and now, after just a short while, she was back on the set to work.

The makeup artist was applying makeup to Shen Zhiyi, especially trying to carefully conceal the scars on her neck that hadn’t completely faded, "Director Meng called me."

He hinted around, asking if she could return to work as soon as possible, after all, due to various reasons, the filming progress of the crew had never actually been up to standard, and they clearly couldn’t do without her, the leading actress.

Shen Zhiyi already felt that her injury wasn’t that serious, and when Director Meng asked in this way, she simply stated that she could continue filming.

"Director Meng really is crafty," Xiaodong sighed. He didn’t ask her; he didn’t ask Wang Feifei; he only asked Shen Zhiyi, who was soft-hearted, "But that mountain forest scene isn’t going to be reshot, right?"

"Mm."

Director Meng picked and chose from those dozen or so scenes and pieced together something satisfactory, although it was a pity that he didn’t get it done in one take as he had hoped.

After getting ready, Shen Zhiyi went to the set, and Duan Jiaze stayed by himself in the rest area, playing with a spare phone that Shen Zhiyi had given him, wearing headphones and watching cartoons, thoroughly enjoying himself.

Pei Yu called Shen Zhiyi while he was descending the gangway, but no one answered, so he dialed Duan Jiaze’s phone instead. The kid, having gotten a new phone, had sent a bunch of messages to his uncle right away, which Pei Yu couldn’t be bothered with.

The call connected, and the child’s chubby face filled the screen, cooing, "Uncle!"

Having spent two days with Shen Zhiyi, his Chinese seemed to have improved a bit. He could understand simple everyday phrases, but for convenience, Pei Yu still conversed with him in French.

"Where is your aunt?"

"Outside."

Duan Jiaze didn’t understand what "filming" was, just that Shen Zhiyi was at work, and was told to be good and not to run around. Hearing Pei Yu asking, he pushed the door open slightly to let the camera capture the scene outside, "At work."

Pei Yu had been to this set before and had some memory of it. He guessed that Shen Zhiyi must have started working, his brow furrowing slightly.

She had rested for only a few days.

He said a few words to Secretary Qin, and when he looked down again, his expression was somewhat perfunctory, "Don’t wander off, keep the door closed."

Duan Jiaze did as he was told, climbing into a chair to sit properly, "Uncle, I miss you, do you miss me?"

The last time they met was close to the New Year, and Pei Yu had given him a massive airplane model, which was still in his study room.

Pei Yu responded indifferently, "No, I don’t."

Duan Jiaze: "..."

His eyes rolling around, his little chubby hands propping up his face, "Then do you miss Auntie?"

By now, he had come to understand what "auntie" meant; Uncle and Auntie were like his dad and mom, in the kind of relationship where they would sleep in the same bed at night.

Pei Yu glanced at the screen, the child was gazing at him earnestly, and no longer denied it cruelly, softening his look a bit, "Mm."

"But Auntie doesn’t miss you at all."

Duan Jiaze’s expression was innocent, "I asked Auntie last night, and she said she didn’t miss you."

With a bit of pride, he pointed at himself, "Auntie likes me, not you, Uncle, you have lost to me."

Pei Yu sneered and called him by his Chinese name, "Duan Jiaze."

Even if he wasn’t very good at reading adult’s facial expressions, Duan Jiaze knew he was about to get a beating.

Just as he was about to sweet-talk his uncle with some honeyed words, the door to the lounge was suddenly pushed open by a man in a suit and leather shoes, who, in Duan Jiaze’s opinion, wasn’t as handsome as his uncle.

Meng Qiming, seeing a child sitting in the lounge, thought he had entered the wrong room, but after verifying the room number, he was sure that this was Shen Zhiyi’s resting room on the set.

He hesitated, "This is Zhiyi’s lounge, isn’t it?"

With big eyes blinking, Duan Jiaze couldn’t understand what he was saying.

Pei Yu was about to hang up the phone when he heard Meng Qiming’s voice and paused, narrowing his eyes.

Meng Qiming entered the room and asked kindly, "Little friend, whose child are you?"

Duan Jiaze held up the phone and said something in French.

"Uncle, what is this person saying?"

He couldn’t understand at all.

Pei Yu’s expression didn’t change, "He said you’re a little fatty."

Duan Jiaze hated being called fat and, upon hearing this, his eyes immediately widened. He took two steps back and looked around for someone to tattle to. Realizing there was no one else in the room but this annoying person, he had no choice but to seek help from his uncle on the phone, "He’s so annoying, Uncle, help me get rid of him!"

Meng Qiming didn’t speak French and couldn’t understand why the child suddenly changed his demeanor. Seeing him holding the phone, Meng tried to approach and see what was going on, but the closer he got, the more the child hid in the corner.

He tried asking in English, "Do you know Shen Zhiyi?"

The child’s English was better than his Chinese. He understood but didn’t want to answer because he disliked the man.

Pei Yu got into the car and listening to Meng Qiming’s voice, he spoke deliberately, "Duan Jiaze, call for mommy."

In front of Pei Yu, Duan Jiaze was always very obedient and easy to deceive due to his young age. Whatever he was asked to do, he would do without hesitation. As Pei Yu said this, he called out without a second thought, "Mommy!"

His voice was loud and clear, making it hard not to understand. Meng Qiming was stunned, his expression gradually turning incredulous.

Was this child calling Shen Zhiyi mommy?

Pei Yu finally instructed, "Keep calling your auntie that until this person leaves."

Duan Jiaze didn’t understand, but Duan Jiaze was obedient.

So when Shen Zhiyi finished shooting a few scenes and came back to the lounge to rest, as soon as she opened the door, the child clung to her legs calling "Mommy, mommy" non-stop.

She was amused yet helpless, the child had clearly corrected himself yesterday, so why was he starting to mistake his mothers again?

Duan Jiaze was much like his uncle when it came to holding grudges, so he petulantly complained, pointing to Meng Qiming behind him, "Him, the baddie!"

Shen Zhiyi looked over in surprise, "What happened?"

Meng Qiming was somewhat embarrassed, "I might have scared him."

His tone was uncertain, "The child doesn’t speak Chinese?"

"Yes," Shen Zhiyi nodded, "He grew up in France and his Chinese isn’t very good; he can only understand a little bit."

Grew up in France... around four years old... Meng Qiming, not wanting to offend, asked extra cautiously, "Did you not raise him yourself?"

If this was Shen Zhiyi’s child, then his father was...
