Extreme Cold Era: Shelter Don't Keep Waste -
Chapter 75: Execution
Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Execution
The hunt for the Independent Faction lasted a full week, during which approximately more than four hundred were executed and over a thousand were imprisoned, most of whom would be exiled to a desolate island for hard labor until tortured to death.
During this week, the entirety of New Shaker City was plunged into the white terror initiated by Perfikot. Everyone was afraid they would be the next to be hanged.
Mass arrests, executions without trial, these constituted the main theme in New Shaker City over this week.
If the garrison hadn’t directly blocked the city’s transportation, many would have immediately wanted to flee the city.
Yet even so, there were still those who tried to sneak out of the city, and most were killed after being caught, others were hanged on street lamps if not shot on site.
Because there were too many killed, the dock’s light poles ran out, so they had to hang them on other streetlights in the city.
This made the entire New Shaker City look as terrifying as a Ghostly Fiend, corpses hanging along the roadsides, originally bustling streets now devoid of any life.
There were those who attempted to resist; some local gangs and Independent Faction rallied a group of about several hundred people, attempting to forcibly confront Perfikot, and tried to seize this opportunity to directly incite an uprising.
Their plan was actually quite feasible, especially as they managed to incite the local New Shaker City’s garrison infantry battalion, briefly holding a numerical advantage.
But when they fought to just two blocks from the dock, the elderly steward in Steam Knight armor gave them a lesson.
The elderly steward, alone, did not use that expensive automatic sniper rifle, after all, a single bullet was far more valuable than the heads of these armed rebels, and he didn’t want to waste Perfikot’s wealth in such a way.
So, armed only with a Chain-Saw Sword borrowed from the other Knights, along with a firearm and Shield.
With the assistance of Steam Knight armor, the elderly steward wielding the firearm slew through the armed rebels attacking the dock, crushing this so-called "uprising."
The whole street was littered with broken bodies, blood even seeping beneath the road a foot deep, creating massive challenges for post-cleanup work.
At that moment, the people of the New Continent finally understood clearly why the Empire could occupy so many colonies.
And most importantly, how frightening the Steam Knights were on the battlefield.
One Steam Knight defeated what equated to an infantry regiment of rebels, even though the elderly steward himself was a commendable knight, this still seemed somewhat too unbelievable.
It must be noted that the so-called firearm was just an adaptation made by the Empire for the traditional knight’s lance following the spread of gunpowder, adding a barrel to fire pre-loaded ammunition.
While this adaptation indeed played some role in combat, the drawback of only firing one pre-loaded bullet meant the weapon wasn’t as marvelous as imagined.
After all, the craftsmanship of bullets was still undeveloped; firearms could only load one bullet at a time, meaning a Knight could at most fire once during a charge.
For the elderly steward Foster, this was just a weapon similar to the knight’s lance.
When following old Baron Brandelis onto the battlefield, the Empire’s Knights had not yet changed over to this.
However, overall, the difference between the firearm and the traditional knight’s lance was minimal; it could still kill people in hand.
But defeating what amounted to an infantry regiment with just a firearm, post-statistics showed over a hundred people were torn apart in a brief skirmish, even for Foster as a commendable knight it was a bit exaggerated.
This also made everyone recognize how Steam Knights could change the battlefield, potentially rewriting future warfare tactics.
Therefore, when related information was wired back to the homeland, the military decisively supported Perfikot, even planning to form an expeditionary force from the homeland to New Continent, to directly quell all Independent Factions.
Of course, most crucial is to protect the Steam Knight factory Perfikot planned to establish in New Continent.
The Military Department’s higher-ups could understand why Perfikot wanted to place the Steam Knight factory in New Continent, even setting aside the largest underlying reason, the factory’s placement effectively isolates prying eyes from other countries.
Even though given the current situation, other countries, even if aware that the Victor Empire built Steam Knights, probably couldn’t devise effective countermeasures before the impending doom.
Even if they stole the blueprints, they likely couldn’t reproduce it within three years.
Hence, the military didn’t oppose placing the Steam Knight factory in New Continent, they only hoped to deploy adequate military forces to protect this factory, ensuring the Empire’s upcoming blueprint progresses smoothly.
But for now, these have little to do with Perfikot, after receiving messages from the homeland, Perfikot instead ceased the slaughter, and for the first time in a week stepped out of the White Gem.
Her complexion at this point wasn’t as pale as before, at least she had adapted quite a bit to the scent of blood, though the corpses at the dock were beginning to rot, emitting a foul odor.
Yet to better deter those with ill intentions, Perfikot still went to the dock.
At this moment, there was still a batch of prisoners associated with the Independent Faction awaiting execution, but right now Perfikot would execute them in a more shocking manner, leaving everyone a deeply engraved impression.
"Tie them to the stakes," Perfikot ordered, with a cold tone, looking at those from the Independent Faction filled with hostility and hatred towards her.
At the dock, the heads of the executed Independent Faction were piled into a small mountain, surrounded by stakes as Perfikot previously instructed.
"Executioner!" "You demon!" "Vile woman! You’ll die a wretched death!" Many insults spewed from those tied to the stakes, cursing Perfikot in venomous language.
Yet Perfikot did not order their mouths blocked nor react otherwise, seriously observing each person, gazing into their eyes.
"I remember Grandpa said, when you want to personally kill someone, be sure to look into their eyes, ensuring you made the right decision and won’t regret it," Perfikot spoke, causing astonishment on the elderly steward’s face beside her.
After speaking, Perfikot slammed her cane onto the ground.
