Chapter 441 - 441 440 The Legacy of the Pseudo-Dragon
Chapter 441: Chapter 440: The Legacy of the Pseudo-Dragon Chapter 441: Chapter 440: The Legacy of the Pseudo-Dragon The Blackfire Festival had come to a successful close, and the dragon’s roar sounded like a cheer for the festivities, with no one aware that a battle of the ages had unfolded on Leize.
Perhaps some knights might secretly speculate, but without Russell speaking up, they would remain clueless.
Each level has its own limits of vision. Vistas of dragons, Snow Giants, and Frost Giants are only barely within reach for the Flying Dragon Knights.
“So, why did the Frost Giant take Snow Giant Da deep into Leize?” Baron Roman asked while swirling his glass of red wine in the study at Fluorescent Castle, expressing his confusion, “If it wanted to launch a sneak attack on you, it should have gone to the Blackflame Plains.”
“Honestly, I’m not sure either. I asked the Shadowflame Dragon, but even it doesn’t know,” Russell replied. “It was only when it and the Torrential Flood Dragon caught the scent of Snow Giant Da, that the illusion appeared and trapped Snow Giant Da.”
“That is very strange,” Baron Roman mused thoughtfully. “Snow Giant Da has invaded Leize twice now; could it be that there’s something there that attracts the Frost Giant behind Snow Giant Da?”
“No way to know. Polly and I searched all over Leize, but we didn’t sense anything noteworthy.”
“Alright, maybe I’m overthinking it,” Baron Roman conceded and changed the subject. “What exactly is a Frost Giant, and why isn’t there any record of them from the five-thousand-year war between dragons and demons?”
“I’m not clear on that,” Russell shook his head.
Then he added with uncertainty, “There may not be a record, father, but if there wasn’t, there wouldn’t be legends of the Frost Titan, nor would people know that in the language of the Snow Demon, ‘Faust’ means frost.”
“That makes sense.”
“So it’s very possible that the Frost Titans did exist in the past, but they eventually vanished, leaving only scattered legends behind.”
Unable to reach a definitive conclusion about the Frost Giant for the time being, Russell was just having a brief discussion with his father.
Soon, the father and son moved on to the topic of developing the Blackflame Plains.
The Fluorescent Fungi Family had made massive investments in the Blackflame Plains, from land clearing to city building, with family funds contributing to all parts. In addition to aiding Russell, they naturally aimed to profit from the rise of the Blackflame Plains.
It was a win-win situation.
“Father, the family can select a batch of warhorses and send them to Leize,” Russell suggested.
“What does that mean?”
“I’ve taken on a student, Baron Hummingbird from the Scorching Torrent Kingdom, Willem Ginnari.”
“I’ve heard,” Baron Roman chuckled, “He’s a naive young man.”
Willem Ginnari’s arrival, seeking to learn and restore his ancestor’s glory and ascend as a Dragon Domain Lord, seemed laughable to him.
One needs to unravel the mystery of life and death to become a Dragon Domain Lord. This is not something that can be taught.
“Whether he’s naive or not doesn’t matter. I’m just going with the flow, imparting some experience,” Russell didn’t ridicule Willem’s actions, “I’ve asked Willem about his family matters. The bloodline heritage of the Pseudodragon isn’t through natural reproduction.”
“Oh? Then what’s the story there?”
“It relies on the ability of bloodline infection to perpetuate the legacy of the Pseudodragon heirs. According to Willem, his great-grandfather, Wester Ginnari, once raised a Phoenixbird squad, successfully cultivating nine Phantom Beast Pseudo-Dragon Successors—’Mock-Kinari Dragons.’
Pseudodragons don’t need to breed in the traditional sense to pass on their bloodline.
Their power radiates over a Warm Enclave, and all the species of the same kind within that enclave evolve under the stimulation of that radiation.
The Pseudodragon Ginnari evolved from the Phantom Beast, the Golden Feather Phoenix, which, in turn, evolved from the common bird species—the Phoenixbird.
The phoenix bird is of the same species as the Kinari.
Therefore, Wester Ginnari raised a large number of phoenix birds, which, year after year, were exposed to the power radiations of the pseudo-dragon Kinari, eventually leading to a bloodline evolution.
A portion of the phoenix birds evolved into primordial beast kind pseudo-dragon successors—phoenix-bird-like dragons.
After countless years of radiation, a small number of these phoenix-bird-like dragons evolved further into phantom beast kind pseudo-dragon successors—”Mock-Kinari Dragons.”
In his lifetime, Wester Ginnari only cultivated nine “Mock-Kinari Dragons,” and the subsequent two generations of Baron Phoenixbird cultivated another five.
All these “Mock-Kinari Dragons” were contracted to knights, yet no knight was able to ascend with a “Mock-Kinari Dragon” to become a lord of the Dragon Domain.
That was until Willem Ginnari inherited the barony and came to visit Russell from afar, bringing along Lily, his chosen future partner.
“So you’re saying that if a warhorse is raised in Leize, it might receive the inheritance of a pseudo-dragon successor?” Baron Roman’s eyes shone with excitement. Even if they didn’t evolve into phantom beasts, just evolving into primordial beast kind pseudo-dragon successors would greatly enhance the quality of warhorses.
This would be of great benefit to the knights battling in the snowfields.
“There is only a possibility; it does not guarantee success,” Russell said. “Polly does not consider herself to have evolved from horses. If that’s true, then warhorses raised in Leize would undergo no changes.”
“Whether it is the case or not, it’s worth opening a stud farm in Leize,” Baron Roman said firmly. “The family will invest in this!”
“Building a stud farm won’t be easy, most of Leize is swampy, and it requires the diversion of water sources and the construction of lakes and canals.”
“I’ll have Roland worry about that, I just want results,” Baron Roman declared, finishing the wine in his glass with content, “I don’t expect to cultivate many pseudo-unicorn dragons, but a group of horse-like dragons, and perhaps one pseudo-unicorn dragon would be sufficient!”
Baron Roman was envious when he first saw Russell riding the eye-catching pseudo-unicorn dragon.
But as the affectionate and dignified father, how could he openly express such feelings?
Now that he had the chance, he certainly didn’t want to miss it.
“By the way, have you asked Willem about the changes in the Warm Enclave after the pseudo-dragon passed away?” Baron Roman asked.
Russell replied, “I have. His great-grandfather Wester Ginnari died on the snowfield. It is said that he encountered the Snow Demon Legion, was severely wounded by the Riding Blue Skins and didn’t manage to make it back to his territory, dying forever on the snowfield.”
Afterward, the Warm Enclave founded by Wester Ginnari began to wither day by day.
Initially spanning over two thousand square kilometers, by the time Willem’s grandfather inherited the barony, it had shrunk to just over one thousand square kilometers within a decade. Fortunately, the rate of shrinkage slowed down afterward, and by the time Willem’s father took over, it had only shrunk to just over five hundred square kilometers in more than twenty years.
At this rate, in a few more decades, it will completely recede to just a cold spring spot on the snowfield.
Baron Roman mused, “So it seems, the Four Seasons Flower Sea Cold Spring Spot was also initially a Warm Enclave created by a pseudo-dragon?”
“Such cold spring spots are prevalent within the Shadowflame Grand Duchy. If this is the case, it indicates that this land once had several lords of the Dragon Domain… But it seems that before the foundation of the Shadowflame Grand Duchy, there had never been a Warm Enclave here, right?”
“Is it possible that it happened during the ice-bound prehistory?” Baron Roman suggested.
The Dragon Sleep Continent was entombed in ice ten thousand years ago. Legend has it that during that time, the Snow Demons crossed through a portal from another realm to unleash a fierce blizzard on the Dragon Sleep Continent.
After the blizzard, the Dragon Sleep Continent was completely frozen over, enduring five thousand years of the Dark Ages.
It wasn’t until five thousand years ago when the first dragon erupted from a volcano that the Warm Age began, and civilization was passed down from there.
Russell thought for a moment and then said, “Father, instead of saying that the lords of the Dragon Domain came from the ice-bound prehistory, it might be more accurate to say they emerged during the Dark Ages…”
