Chapter 324: Chapter 323: Late to Line Up (Additional Release, Asking for Monthly Pass) Chapter 324: Chapter 323: Late to Line Up (Additional Release, Asking for Monthly Pass) The duel at Windmill Manor ended with an outcome that surprised everyone and quickly echoed throughout Glowing Valley.
In consideration of Marcus’s pride, Baron Roman didn’t immediately host a banquet to celebrate his younger son’s victory. He simply encouraged Russell with a few words, consoled the disheartened Marcus, then rode away atop Ros the Clay Dragon, his face beaming with smiles.
Having suffered such a defeat, Marcus naturally couldn’t face inviting people to dine at the manor.
Even if he had asked them to stay, the guests would have felt awkward about accepting the invitation to dine, and they soon dispersed. However, their private amazement and discussions were far from over.
“Sir, shall we return to the manor?” Katie asked as they left Windmill Manor.
Roland, riding on a Nightmare Specter Horse, laughed when he heard her and said, “Return to Wuyao Snake Manor? Russell, bring your followers to Fluorescent Castle for lunch… Father might not be able to celebrate for you, but your elder brother will treat you to a meal!”
Russell gave a slight smile, his complexion still pale as he rode on Unicorn Polly—the power of converting his vital energy was strong, but it had taken a lot out of him.
He responded, “Since elder brother has invited us, let’s go to Fluorescent Castle for our meal. I need to replenish my nutrition promptly after such a big expenditure.”
Roland then turned to look at Lord Sally, who was preparing to take off, “Lord Sally, would you care to join us for a meal at the castle?”
Lord Sally chuckled as he eyed the two brothers, Roland and Russell, and replied, “You two brothers go ahead and celebrate. I’ve already prepared a meal back home, so I’ll be off.”
With that said,
The shadow of black wings on his back flapped as he quickly performed the Beast Fusion Shadow and flew towards Greycat Manor.
Thus, the brothers Roland and Russell returned together to Fluorescent Castle. Upon entering the castle, they saw their father, Baron Roman, vividly recounting the duel between Russell and Marcus to Lady Meryl and Lola.
The old butler Carter, too, was not at the gate to welcome guests as he usually would be but was listening attentively to Baron Roman’s narration.
“Russell, you’re here, just in time. Tell us about this Four-Sword Style of yours,” Baron Roman immediately beckoned upon seeing his younger son. “I can understand Three Swords Style, but how did your feet emit sword light?”
“It was an Amber Worm, Father; I picked it up by chance,” Russell candidly replied.
He was soon to be promoted to a Flying Dragon Knight. With few creatures left in the world that posed a threat to him, other than a few Great Dragons, there was little left to fear.
Thus, there was no reason for Russell to keep hiding.
Blatantly, he stretched out his hand and summoned the Sword Butterfly, which transformed into a butterfly with sword-shaped wings and fluttered to rest on his shoulder.
“An Amber Worm?” Baron Roman exclaimed in surprise at the sight of the Sword Butterfly on Russell’s shoulder. “Do Amber Worms truly exist? I always thought such creatures didn’t exist in the Shadowflame Duchy. I’ve never heard of anyone making a contract with one!”
The Shadowflame Duchy was too small.
Or rather, too young—a country only four hundred years old, with a population just reaching four million at most, and the frozen snowfields making each volcanic oasis relatively isolated, difficult to exchange information with the outside world.
So on this warm stretch of land, there were neither Pseudo-Dragons nor Dragon Domain Lords’ sightings, nor were Amber Worms known to exist.
Of the one hundred and eight varieties of Bipedal Flying Dragons, barely over thirty had been seen.
It was indeed a bit shabby.
“Russell, may I have a look at the Sword Butterfly?” Lola asked, her eyes full of curiosity.
Russell caught the Sword Butterfly with his finger, then placed it on Lola’s hand, “Take a good look. There’s really not much special to it. Its true uniqueness lies in allowing me to emit sword light without the use of weapons.”
In fact, the true purpose of the Sword Butterfly was to aid him in comprehending swordsmanship.
However, Russell, who had a few tricks up his sleeve, did not say. Otherwise, people would attribute all his skills to the gaze of the Great Dragon and overlook his talent and effort in cultivation and swordsmanship—after all, the Three Swords Flow Grand Skill and the Four Swords Flow Mystique were indeed his own creations.
“What an interesting little butterfly,” said Lady Meryl.
Baron Roman, being a Flying Dragon Knight, didn’t harbor many desires for external things like the amber worm and simply commented, “I see, that explains how you could release sword light with your feet, it’s all thanks to this little creature.”
Roland almost drooled again, “Russell, my dear brother, how do you always get your hands on so many nice things!”
Russell merely smiled and retracted the Sword Butterfly, “No helping it, under the gaze of the Great Dragon… Praise the Great Dragon, and thank the Great Dragon for its blessing.”
Baron Roman nodded, “Indeed, we must thank the Shadowflame Dragon!”
Lady Meryl strongly agreed.
Even Lola couldn’t help but close her eyes and silently pray, “Praise the Great Dragon, please grant me a Bipedal Flying Dragon as well!”
Only Roland sighed, too lazy to mention the Shadowflame Dragon – the Shadowflame Dragon couldn’t even protect Kunstan, so how could it favor him? His only aspiration in life was wondering when he would inherit Ros the Clay Dragon.
The luncheon began.
Eric, Grove, and Katie were all invited to the table, but understanding the rules, they quietly focused on their meals.
The whole family of Glowing Mushrooms was engrossed in their conversation.
“I can’t believe that Marcus actually lost to you in a sword fight; it must have been quite a blow for him,” said Baron Roman with a shrug, “I initially wanted him to strike you a few times to vent his frustration and just get over the whole Malena incident.”
Russell, displeased, said, “Father, Mother, the matter with Malena has nothing to do with me. Why should I let him strike me? In fact, I’ve shown him goodwill many times; it is only Marcus who persistently finds me disagreeable.”
Russell didn’t think he had wronged Malena or owed anything to Marcus and his wife.
So, there was no reason for Marcus to treat him with perpetual coldness as if he owed the man thousands of Gold Coins and had not paid them back.
“What do you mean it has nothing to do with you?” said Baron Roman, “You couldn’t even unleash the seed of Battle Qi back then; how could your mother and I be at ease about your future? Of course, we had to plan for your life early on. Marcus’s willingness to marry his daughter to you, a good-for-nothing, is a favor. How could you not accept it?”
“Um… but nobody asked for my opinion,” said Russell.
“Anyway, you were supposed to give Marcus a beating, and that would be the end of it. Who knew you would actually end up beating Marcus,” said Baron Roman, shaking his head with a sigh that conveyed both pride in his son’s performance and sympathy for Marcus.
Lady Meryl shot him a reproving glance, “Who ever heard of asking their son to hit someone for them?”
Baron Roman responded nonchalantly, “It didn’t happen anyway, and now it’s Marcus who got beaten by him. Later, find an excuse to visit Shafali and let her comfort Marcus properly. There’s no shame in being defeated by Russell.”
He paused for a moment.
Then, Baron Roman thought of something else, “Russell, you do owe Marcus a favor after all, so take Mask as your follower, give him a chance to build his reputation, and consider it repayment for the favor you owe.”
Despite not feeling indebted to Marcus,
Russell nodded in agreement.
Soon he would be a Flying Dragon Knight and was destined to be the future Baron. Taking Mask as a follower would undoubtedly leave Marcus grateful – among the followers of the future Baron, there had to be a few Lords.
“That lad Mask is really in luck,” Roland commented with a laugh.
But glancing at Eric, Grove, and Katie, who were quietly devouring their food, he suddenly doubted whether Mask would end up with a good outcome.
He had joined the queue rather late, after all, there were already three Phantom Beast Knights ahead of him.
Moreover, out in the Populus Gobi, there was a second son of a Baron waiting for the chance to follow Russell.
